Adriano Canzian – Macho Boy (Album – Adriano Canzian)

Genre/Influences: Dark-Techno, Minimal-Techno, Experimental-Techno.
Format: Digital, CD.
Background/Info: Italian Techno-Body producer Adriano Canzian released his debut-single “Macho Boy” in 2003 on the legendary German label International Deejay Gigolo records. Twenty one years later -and numerous other releases on different labels, he got back to “Macho Boy” releasing a full length album.
Content: The work reveals 18 songs featuring the original edits released as the single in remastered and adapted edits plus different extras. It’s a way to discover the wide range of influences this artist is dealing with. It sounds Techno but is now more complex and Experimental, then more into space-like sound treatments and atmospheres and finally darker and harder to finally conclude with minimal driven pieces. You’ll notice the funny, somewhat provocative samplings running as a common thread through the work.
+ + + : This is much more than simply a re-release or a commemorative work but an opportunity to get back to the very beginning of this talented artist and realize how he evolved throughout the years. I like the solid bass lines he’s using and especially at the darker and harder cuts. That’s why I prefer the second part of the work featuring “Macho Boy.Black” and “Macho Boy.Violet” as ultimate sonic exposures.
– – – : There for sure is much better work by Adriano Canzian, this album being more a kind of guilty pleasure for the artist. I’m missing his most dark and aggressive side.
Conclusion: Time runs fast but Adriano Canzian has definitely left his mark on the underground Techno scene.
Best songs: “Macho Boy.Black”, “Macho Boy.Violet”, “Macho Boy.Dark”, “Macho Boy.Orange”.
Rate: 7½.

Why we ask
Advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations we have not put up a paywall, and we refuse to add annoying advertising, so we need to ask for your help. Side-Line’s independent journalism takes time, money and hard work to produce, and we do it to push the artists we like, who are equally fighting to survive.

I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.
