MIY – Work (Album – MIY)

Genre/Influences: Industrial, Metal, Gothic.
Format: Digital, CD.
Background/Info: MIY is a Luxembourg based band, which originally started as a solo-project driven by Gábor Bándi and finally became a duo. “Work” is the band’s second opus, which also features female guest vocals by Remeya Kingston.
Content: The band defines their sound as Industrial-Metal, which definitely appears to be a main source of inspiration. But the work is also featuring other influences, which are moving from Gothic to electro. The main part of the work is driven by harder cuts, which are often refined with Electronic arrangements although I also noticed a song featuring epic influences in the arrangements. The last song reveals a more Electro-Pop experiment.
+ + + : MIY isn’t setting the world alight, but has achieved a honest work, which especially during the second part of the work reveals a few noticeable tracks. The sound is harder, but the vocals are produced in a harsher way as well. Another cool song is “The Night” featuring Remeya Kingston. There’s a perfect match between both singers while the music has something empowering. The artwork and digipak format are pretty cool.
– – – : The album has something versatile and especially the softer cuts can’t totally convince me. These songs also feature a clearer production of the vocals, which is suffering from a lack of passion.
Conclusion: I think MIY can better focus on composing harder stuff, which clearly sounds as their main strength.
Best songs: “The Night”, “Trainwreck”, “Here I Fall”.

Why we ask
Advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations we have not put up a paywall, and we refuse to add annoying advertising, so we need to ask for your help. Side-Line’s independent journalism takes time, money and hard work to produce, and we do it to push the artists we like, who are equally fighting to survive.

I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.
