Genre/Influences: Industrial, experimental, industrial-ambient.

Background/Info: Hailing from Chicago, Death Of Self has already released a few productions. This new opus comes seven years after the previous album “Embracing The Things We Hate About Ourselves”, which was also released by Bugs Crawling Out Of People.

Content: This is a rather versatile work, which is driven by industrial sound elements. Some songs are pretty minimal-like and supported by dark, atmospheric layers. Other cuts are much more raw and carried by industrial noises. The second half of the work is more into atmospheric passages while driven by slow rhythms. The vocals are sometimes inhibited and sometimes into the whispering mode while I also noticed spoken samplings.

+ + + : I especially like the minimal approach of industrial music featured at this work, but the more atmospheric side is worthy of examination as well. The diversity of the songs makes the work captivating.

– – – : The work is maybe missing a real highlight.

Conclusion: Death Of Self deals with a very own vision of industrial music, which makes this album’s originality.

Best songs: “Shattered”, “Alone”, “Dead Letter”.

Rate: (7).
