The Swedish electronic duo The Northern Territories release a new cover version of Neil Young’s “Natural Beauty”, accompanied by an official video. The track is taken from their October 2025 six-track “Dreaming of Tomorrowland EP” out on Dependent Records. In addition to the standalone EP, the track also features as a bonus song on the second disc of the 2CD artbook edition of “A Star In Orbit Still”, alongside further remixes and alternate versions.
The song originally appeared on Neil Young’s 1992 album “Harvest Moon”.
In a statement, the duo explain their long-standing connection to Young’s work: “We’ve always listened a lot to him over the years, obviously one of the greatest songwriters on the planet. We always loved ‘Natural Beauty’ and another song we love is the Pet Shop Boys’ version of ‘The Crying Game’, with Boy George on vocals. We kind of stole the idea for the sampled guitar from that song and that set the tone for the arrangement.”
You can find the complete EP on Bandcamp and other platforms.
About The Northern Territories
The Northern Territories is a Swedish electronic duo formed in 1992 in Uppsala by John Alexander Ericson (vocals, instruments, electronics) and Stefan Sääf (vocals, electronics). The project originally worked within a synthpop framework, releasing early material on the Berlin label Machinery Records. Their debut album “Midnight Ambulance” appeared in 1994, followed by the mini-album and single configurations of the same title.
In 1997, the duo issued “Orange Moon” through Visage Records, including more prominent guitars and a slower, dream-oriented approach. The third album “Satellite People” arrived in 1999 via Nova Tekk.
After “Satellite People”, The Northern Territories went inactive and John Alexander Ericson moved into a solo career, releasing albums such as “Songs For Quiet Souls”, “Savannah Songs”, “Black Clockworks” and “Songs From The White Sea”, as well as working with projects like Stjarna and My Empire Of Sound.
The duo returned in 2017 with the digital single “Midnight Ambulance” and reactivated activity more visibly in 2023 with the track “Love Doesn’t Live Here Anymore”. In February 2025, Side-Line reported that the reformed duo had signed a multi-album deal with Dependent Records.
The comeback single “The Hunter and the Hunted” preceded the album “A Star In Orbit Still” which was released on 23 May 2025 via Dependent Records as both a standard CD/digital edition and an 18×18 cm hardcover artbook with 2CD and 48-page booklet.
