Experimental ritual dark ambient project Kathodos will re-release its debut album “Parasomnia: Pavor Nocturnus” for the first time on CD via Rune Serpent Europa on October 28, 2025. The CD edition is announced as limited to 500 copies with a 4-page booklet.

But today we can already offer you an exclusive premiere of the video for “A Memory Dwindles…”.

Kathodos comments on the concept behind the song and video: “’A Memory Dwindles…’ is a song about a person haunted by a horrifying memory of seeing a child falling off a rooftop. The person is in a state of despair and psychosis. The music video features footage from the 1920 silent film, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari — the dark and disturbing imagery of the film fits the ambience of the song. It also features myself and Lavinia playing out the song’s protagonist’s pain from the memory that plagues him.”

The 2025 CD follows the album’s original digital issue in spring 2024 on a now-defunct netlabel. That digital edition is available on the project’s Bandcamp and major platforms, with the following six-track sequence confirmed on the original release.

“Parasomnia: Pavor Nocturnus” will certainly please fans of Nurse With Wound, Coil and Current 93.

About Kathodos

Kathodos is a studio-only project formed as an “experiment in darkness” and based in Kansas City, Missouri (US). The project’s music combines ritual/occult textures, drones and spoken passages.

The debut album for the project, “Parasomnia: Pavor Nocturnus” was initially released digitally and on a limiuted CD-run in 2024 via Slithering Black Record. Contributions on the album include Lavinia (soprano, spoken word, guitar). A new 2025 CD edition is announced via Rune Serpent Europa.

You might know Kathodos from these two Rune Serpent Europa projects: “Laibach Tribut: Schlecht Und Ironisch” (reissue), contributing a cover of Laibach’s “White Law”; “The Five Senses” (Saturno Buttò tribute), contributing “Death & Rebirth (Part II)”.

Beyond those, Kathodos also issued the split “Thing 008” in June 2025 (featuring “…Window (Edit)”).

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
