80s Express
Berlin-based 80s reinterpretation project 80s Express has released its third advance video single, a cover of the Simple Minds anthem “Don’t You (Forget About Me)”. The track follows previous video singles “Forever Young” and “The Power Of Love”.
Led by Blind Passenger frontman Nik Page and produced alongside Sebastian Arp (Bunker Dresden), 80s Express reimagines iconic songs from the New Wave era. Page confirmed that all recordings for the upcoming album have been completed and are now being finalized.
The forthcoming full-length will feature new versions of songs by a wide range of 1980s artists including Anne Clark, Depeche Mode, Kate Bush, Camouflage, Madness, Billy Idol, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Cyndi Lauper, and Eurythmics.
Live performances of the 80s Express project are ongoing, with upcoming dates and ticket sales available at www.ticket69.de.
About 80s Express
Nik Page, a German musician born in Zossen in 1971, founded 80s Express in 2018. Page has a long history in the music scene, initially gaining prominence with Blind Passengers, a synth-pop and darkwave band formed in 1987 in East Berlin alongside Reiner Schirner.
80s Express is a tribute band that reinterprets iconic 1980s pop, new wave, and Neue Deutsche Welle (NDW) songs. The project aims to bring these classics to the stage with “thick beats and maximum entertainment factor,” featuring elaborate live performances.
The band covers hits from artists such as Depeche Mode, New Order, The Cure, The Sisters of Mercy, Dead or Alive, Camouflage, Die Ärzte, The Human League, Tears for Fears, Soft Cell, Billy Idol, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, The Police, and U2. NDW classics like “Goldener Reiter,” “99 Luftballons,” “Terra Titanic,” and “Eisbär” are also part of their repertoire.
Nik Page leads the band, joined by international musicians, including Nigel Wheeler, a former singer from London’s new wave scene, and performers like Finnish guitarist Haydee Sparks and co-singer Olivia Dynamite.
80s Express released the album “Zeitsprung Vol. 2” in 2020, featuring covers of 1980s wave and pop hits. Tracks include “Don’t Go,” “Living on Video,” “Send Me an Angel,” and “You Spin Me Round (Like a Record),” often in collaboration with other artists.
Chief editor of Side-Line – which basically means I spend my days wading through a relentless flood of press releases from labels, artists, DJs, and zealous correspondents. My job? Strip out the promo nonsense, verify what’s actually real, and decide which stories make the cut and which get tossed into the digital void. Outside the news filter bubble, I’m all in for quality sushi and helping raise funds for Ukraine’s ongoing fight against the modern-day axis of evil.
