The New Zealand-based dark electro act Robots In Love has released its debut album, “Activate!“, available as a limited edition CD and on all major digital platforms.

The album, described by the band as “a cinematic blend of emotional synthscapes and precise percussion”, includes ten tracks that explore themes of dystopia, desire, and recovery. Songs like “Break The Code” and “The Sequel” present a darker, future-tinged narrative, while tracks such as “Entwine” and “Fire Heals” delve into intimacy and loss. Closing the album is “Fire Heals,” which vocalist Elenor describes as “a devastatingly beautiful story of loss” wrapped in a symphonic arrangement.

Vocalist and producer Elenor Rayner explains the album’s recurring motif: “It’s my advice to people to venture into the darkness but not to stay there. For example, in ‘Wolves Cry’ the lyrics are: ‘hear the danger and run from night, love is stronger into light’.”

The release was developed over two years by Rayner and drummer/producer Alex Burchell. Elenor notes that “for an album that’s so precise and meticulously produced, it developed organically.”

The band’s live setup includes guitarist Henry Flynn Wall. Elenor, who has previously worked with Sobriquet and The Crystalline Effect, brings extensive production and remix experience to the project. Burchell contributes influences from prog rock, synthwave, and orchestral music, including his work with Angels Unchained and the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast.
