German darkwave act Das Ich have released a new digital single, “Brutus”, via Danse Macabre. The release is available on Bandcamp now; streaming on Spotify and Apple Music. The track ties into the album “Fanal”, scheduled for October 31, 2025.

The digital single holds 2 tracks:

  1. “Brutus”
  2. “Brutus (Imperator Clubmix)”

The band describes the upcoming “Fanal” album like this: “From cosmic doubt, societal decay and betrayal to self-created annihilation,” adding that each of its “nine beacons” serves as testimony rather than warning. “Fanal” is also up for limited vinyl pre-order via Bandcamp; item ships around October 14, 2025.

About Das Ich

Das Ich formed in 1989 in Bayreuth, Germany, founded by Stefan Ackermann (vocals/lyrics) and Bruno Kramm (music/electronics). The duo are among the originators of Neue Deutsche Todeskunst (New German Death Art), combining classical motifs with electronic/industrial production and German-language lyrics.

From the outset the pair operated via their own imprint Danse Macabre, which handled the early EP “Satanische Verse” (1990) and debut album “Die Propheten” (1991). A U.S. reissue of “Die Propheten” followed in 1997. Early editions of several 1990s titles became harder to obtain after the collapse of distributor EFA.

After “Staub” (1994) – which charted 11 weeks in Germany – the band issued the 1995 US live album “Feuer” and the 1996 soundtrack “Das innere Ich.” Those were followed up by “Egodram” (1998), a release associated with broader distribution through larger partners, and the singles “Kindgott” and “Destillat” (which received a smashing VNV Nation remix).

Also in 1998 they released “Morgue”, a setting of Gottfried Benn’s poems. The 2000s included “Anti’christ” (2002), the twin “Lava:Glut” / “Lava:Asche” cycle (2004), and “Cabaret” (2006). In 2011 Ackermann suffered a serious illness; the band resumed activity publicly in 2013. The 2020s brought catalog reissues on Bandcamp (“Lava” was re-released with bonus tracks, the cult debut EP “Satanische Verse” was remastered on vinyl) and, in 2025, the new singles “Lazarus” and now “Brutus” leading into “Fanal” (their first full album since their mid-2000s releases).

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
