Cubic issues 'EFM01 (Black)' vinyl EP in ultra-limited run
Belgian electro act Cubic has announced the release of a new vinyl-exclusive EP titled “EFM01 (Black)”, available as a strictly limited edition of 100 copies worldwide. Issued via Alfa Matrix, the 12-inch record follows closely on the heels of Cubic’s recent album “Back to Basic”.
Pressed on black vinyl, “EFM01” features five tracks unavailable in any digital format, with contributions from several electronic producers. Side A opens with a remix of Cubic’s “I Travel” by French artist COMMUTER, who delivers a sleek, high-energy reinterpretation with classic electro motifs. The second cut, “My Home Computer”, is an original Cubic production rich in vocoder textures and retro-futurist nods.
On the B-side, Maltese producer Acidulant contributes a bass-heavy 808-driven version of “I Travel”, built for club impact. Cubic then offers a new instrumental track, “OFM”, which blends warm melodies with a crisp electro pulse. The closing cut sees French producer Millimetric rework “I Travel” again, this time injecting a darker, EBM-tinged edge influenced by early Düsseldorf minimalism.
The artwork for “EFM01 (Black)” pays tribute to the iconic Modor DRM1 drum synthesizer and was created in cooperation with Modor.
- A1 – I Travel (Commuter remix)
- A2 – My Home Computer (electro funk edit)
- B1 – I Travel (Acidulant remix)
- B2 – OFM (electro funk edit)
- B3 – I TRAVEL (Millimetric remix)
You can only snag this black‑vinyl beauty directly from CUBIC, the official Alfa Matrix store, and some selected e-shops.
About Cubic
Cubic is a Belgian electronic music project led by veteran artist Franky Deblomme, previously known for his work with the band Darkmen. Based in Gent, Belgium, the project brings a fusion of various electronic music influences, drawing from decades of Deblomme’s experience in the electronic music scene.
The project is characterized by its eclectic blend of melodic techno, minimal synth-pop, 808 electro, and elements of electronic body music (EBM), reflecting a dark, underground aesthetic combined with vintage and contemporary electronic sounds.
His work incorporates inspirations from Düsseldorf’s vintage synth sounds (e.g., Kraftwerk), Berlin techno, the 1990s Manchester electronic scene (often associated with artists like Orbital and Underworld), and Belgian club culture, including EBM pioneers like Front 242. His music is known for the use of hardware synthesizers and effects, recorded in Deblomme’s “Bong 13” studio.
Cubic signed to Alfa Matrix in 2021, issuing the full-length “The Cubic Alphabet”. The follow-up album “Back to Basic” was released in early 2025.
