Marilyn Manson dropped by Interscope due to low sales 'The High End of Low'Posted on 07/12/09
"Much ado about nothing." That is exactly what Interscope Records thought when they saw the very poor sales figures of Manson's last album "The High End of Low" - it only sold 121,000 copies in the US. As a result they decided to drop Marilyn Manson from the label. The news does not come as a complete surprise, although Manson tried everything possible to maintain in the press' attention, news that the sales of his latest album were really low started to pop up about everywhere.
Right after the split, Manson complained to Metal Hammer magazine saying: "I think a lot of the creative control on which my hands were tied on a lot of choices – the music videos – things like that (has been regained). I was so restrained from the music that I wanted to make – what they would allow, they would put out, what ideas they would allow to be conveyed in these videos. At least half of my creative output has been squashed, so now I think people can expect a whole lot more."
Manson is already working on a new album he promises will be "more outrageous than ever, now I'm free from the shackles of a major label". Strangely enough, someone at Interscope told us that Manson had complete freedom and that his complaints are just - and we quote - "the words of a musicians who has lost all credibility in the music industry, major or indie".
In more Marilyn Manson news, he has reunited with actress Evan Rachel Wood. The couple began dating in 2007 but split a year later - and briefly reunited earlier in 2009 before going their separate ways once more. Until now.
