Talk To Her – Pleasure Loss Desire (Digital/CD/Vinyl Album – Shyrec / Icy Cold Records)
Ten years after their formation, and already five years after their impressive debut album “Love Will Come Again”, Talk To Her finally returns with a follow-up. The new album contains ten songs, primarily inspired by inner and psychological themes.
The Italian band’s style and influences have remained largely intact. Their sound is best described as a cross-pollination of Post-Punk, Cold-Wave, and Dream-Pop, with subtle touches of Shoegaze woven throughout. The songs are wonderfully dark and strongly driven by impressive guitar work, which creates a melancholic, brooding, and at times almost Cinematic atmosphere. There is an underlying sense of unease that is difficult to put into words, yet instantly recognizable and magically translated into music. I was particularly struck by the way many of the songs build gradually before erupting into powerful climaxes. The album is rich in such moments, with the charismatic vocals—occasionally reminiscent of Morrissey—serving as an added highlight.
“Pleasure Loss Desire” is, in my opinion, one of the stro ngest Dark-Wave albums of the year and a compelling confirmation of the band’s undeniable potential. (Rating:8½).
