The Berlin-based musician and former KMFDM, Pigface, and PIG member will perform material from across his catalogue, including songs from the 2024 album “Dance Hall Putsch”. “Dance Hall Putsch” was released on September 27, 2024 via GIVE/TAKE. The record is available in vinyl, CD, and digital formats.

About En Esch

En Esch is the stage name of Berlin-based Nicklaus Schandelmaier, a musician born on March 23, 1968. He was a member of KMFDM from 1985 to 1999 and later worked with Pigface, PIG, Slick Idiot, and Mona Mur.

His solo discography began with “Cheesy” in 1993 followed by later solo releases including “Spänk”, “Trash Chic”, “Et Nos Unum Sumus”, and more recently “Dance Hall Putsch”. After KMFDM’s split in 1999, he formed Slick Idiot with Günter Schulz, then later collaborated with Mona Mur on “120 Tage” in 2009 and a second album in 2011.

En Esch, a veteran of the industrial scene known for his roles in KMFDM, PIG, and Slick Idiot, has released his first full-length solo album in eight years. Titled “Dance Hall Putsch”, the LP is out now via GIVE/TAKE in translucent Coke bottle clear vinyl, CD, and digital formats.

The album offers a blend of industrial metal, EBM, and electronic experimentation and features guest contributions from Raymond Watts, Guenter Schulz, Mark Durante, Vas Kallas (Hanzel und Gretyl), Mea Fisher and Erica Dilanjian (Lords of Acid), and Hope Nicholls (Pigface), among others.

Commenting on the context behind the release, En Esch says: “I began work on Dance Hall Putsch in the early days of Covid-19. I was trying to create an upbeat, rather positive and very danceable album to leave the pandemic days behind us. Then it happened that a war began near where I live… From living with this ‘war next door,’ the album turned out much more sinister than originally planned.”

And he adds: “It became a rather political album that reflects on the senselessness and nastiness of all the current wars around us. It’s always the innocent and those who hold no power that suffer the most.”

The former Lords Of Acid vocalist, Mea Fisher (aka DJ Mea) and her solo project, Me And My Nightmare just unveiled the new single and video, “Don’t Forget Me”. The single features En Esch (Slick Idiot, , Pigface, Ex-KMFDM) on keyboards.

“Don’t Forget Me” is Mea’s tribute to her mother, Patricia who tragically passed away after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 84. A common occurrence during the stages of Alzheimer’s disease is when the patient loses their memory.

Mea says, “As her only child, the fear of being told that someday my mother might forget me terrified me to the core. I feared it everyday but it didn’t happen. She always remembered her “little baby girl” all the way to the very end. Never once did she forget me. It was a gift, even though I lost her.”

Former Lords of Acid vocalist, Mea Fisher, has returned with her new project Me and My Nightmare, launching the single “Devil Inside”, featuring industrial legend En Esch (Slick Idiot, PIG, Pigface, ex-KMFDM). The track combines guitar riffs, metallic percussion, and synths “to bring to life a twisted tale of temptation and the underworld” as Fisher describes it.

Originally written for Lords of Acid, Fisher reimagined “Devil Inside” blending heavy metal elements with industrial beats. Apart from En Esch we also find guitars by Danny Lohner (Nine Inch Nails).

The single coincides with the release of a video, where Fisher fully embodies the “devil inside”.

Having garnered attention in the ’90s as a Chicago house scene DJ, Fisher transitioned to industrial rock with Lords of Acid before creating Me and My Nightmare. This new release signals her return to the industrial-electro forefront.

Yishai Sweartz of Tomorrow’s Rain and Berlin-based singer/composer Mona Mur are releasing a new album on June 20 via Soleilmoon Recordings. Titled “Clouds Of War,” the album is inspired by the life of Sweartz’s grandfather, Moshe Szniecki, a WWII Partisan. The music includes spoken word and experimental arrangements.

Yishai explains in the press release that “Clouds Of War” emerged from the compelling stories in his grandfather’s diary. During WWII, Moshe left his hometown at 17 after his family was murdered. He survived by joining a Partisan group in the Belarusian forests. He later settled in Israel, living peacefully until his death at 94. Yishai explains further: “During World War II, 17-year-old Moshe Szniecki left his hometown when all other members of his family were murdered by Nazi hordes. In the depths of the Belarusian forests, Moshe joined a Partisan group and fought boldly. Guided by what he called ‘The Codes of the Woods,’ Moshe survived.” He made it to Israel, married, and had a family with his wife Hanna and two daughters. He died peacefully at 94, at ease with himself. He survived.”

“To me, music is a sacred art form. You can transmit and connect on a level of empathy. Violence, cruelty, greed, ego, hate, contempt, hostility dissolve for a fleeting moment that still might change things profoundly,” explains Mona Mur reflecting on the conceptual side of the collaboration that lead to the release of “Clouds of War”. “What is the right look at the atrocities of war, holocaust, genocide ? Moshe Shnitzki, 17 years old, had to transform in a split second, in order to survive, from a pious teenage boy into a warrior. Fight back or die, head into the deep dark forest, leave a civilization that failed to rise up to its proper meaning. And survive. How does that feel, how does that sound ? This is what “Clouds of War” is about.”

The collaboration between the two musicians began in summer 2021 when diary excerpts, translated into English, were recorded by Yishai Sweartz and sent to Mona Mur. In her studio KATANA, Mona Mur used these as the basis for the album, adding layers of voices, guitar, and electronic sounds.

As the project evolved, Anja Huwe of X-mal Deutschland contributed her voice. The album is also already featured in Elfi Mikesch’s documentary “War or Peace”. You can pre-order their album below on Bandcamp and check out the first 2 songs already.

The dark atmospheric synthpop band, IIOIOIOII, based in Charlotte, North Carolina, has unveiled a new 3-track single titled “Frozen Sea”.

This single has been released through Distortion Productions and is accompanied by a music video. It offers a glimpse of their upcoming album, “Dreaming”, set to launch in autumn 2023 via the same label.

Pronounced as IO or eye-oh, IIOIOIOII has been producing music since 2012. Their most recent album, “Chroma + Chromatic”, came out in 2019 under AnalogueTrash Records.

Distortion Productions, the band’s current label, initially aimed to spotlight both national and local talents within the Pittsburgh Industrial/Goth community. After parting ways with the post-punk powerhouse Public Image Ltd. in 1985, drummer Martin Atkins found himself in high demand, collaborating with numerous bands such as NIN, Killing Joke, and notably, William Rieflin of Revolting Cocks and Ministry. Together, Rieflin and Atkins embarked on their most ambitious project to date: an industrial music supergroup called Pigface, bringing together the talents of their various associates.

In 1990, Pigface released their debut album “Gub,” which includes the original version of “Suck” featuring Trent Reznor. Reznor later re-recorded this track for the 1992 NIN EP “Broken.” With contributions from artists such as Chris Connelly of Revolting Cocks, David Yow of The Jesus Lizard, Nivek Ogre of Skinny Puppy, Paul Barker of Ministry, En Esch of KMFDM, and Steve Albini, “Gub” has rightfully earned its reputation as one of the most daring sound recordings ever created.

Atkins reflects on the album, saying, “This was such a liberating time—bringing together this extraordinary group of musicians and not worrying about the outcome (although, of course, we did). We had the luxury of working in the legendary Chicago Trax studios with the talented Steve Albini to capture and convey it all. It’s fascinating to think that Trent’s involvement was even a topic of debate—NIN wasn’t well-known yet, and some suggested we could save $150 on a round-trip airfare from Cleveland by not involving him. I vetoed the idea. Bill Rieflin and I came up with the concept for the project during warm-ups for Ministry’s cage tour, and the immense contribution of Francesca Sundsten’s iconic artwork to the project cannot be overstated.”

The album is now receiving a deluxe reissue from Cleopatra Records, showcasing Francesca Sundsten’s restored artwork and a gatefold image of Pigface’s original promotional picture, assembled by Chris Connelly. This reissue also offers bonus remixes and extra track versions for the first time in a single release. The CD edition comes in a premium digipak, while the vinyl version is available in an array of colors.

Background/Info: Raymond Watts has written this new PIG album during the ongoing pandemic. He got some help from precious and long-time collaborators En Esch and Steve White while  Jim Davies (Pitchshifter, The Prodigy ao) joined in as well.

Content: Twelve songs of typical Industrial power, mixing guitar riffs with electronics, this work of course will make you think of KMFDM. But Watts takes us by surprise achieving softer -and even cabaret-like cuts.

+ + + : The sound universe of PIG is one familiar for fans of KMFDM, Pitchshifter and co. A dark, Industrial sound in which Watts excels. His passionate vocals -sometimes reminding me to early Nick Cave, are totally matching with the violent sound whereon you’ll also notice subtle, sound arrangements. “The Dark Room” and “Tarantula” both are brilliant pieces but I also have to mention the solid opener “No Yes More Less” and “Obliteration Liberation” for its elevating sensation.

– – – : PIG stands for great music although it became a bit more predictable throughout the years.

Conclusion: PIG sounds dirty and passionate, evil and merciless!

Best songs: “The Dark Room”, “Tarantula”, “No Yes More Less”, “Obliteration Liberation”.

Other musicians involved include Michelle Martinez, Mike Watts, Enrico Tomasso, Abbie Aisleen, Marc Heal, Jimmy Livingstone and Mona Mur.

The most recent full-length PIG studio album, “Pain Is God”, was released in 2020.

We got a few questions regarding this, so yes, the Chicago-based industrial band, Project .44, have unleashed their first album in sixteen years, “(The Storm Before) Reform”. It’s the band’s first full album output although there has been a sporadic single, some compilation contributions, and an EP and lead-man Chri5 Harri5 has been busy for a few years with Sean Payne (Cyanotic) on the Glitch Mode Recordings offshoot CONFORMCO.

Harri5 explains the 16 years of album silence: “Well after we released our debut, ‘The System Doesn’t Work’ on Invisible Records, we put out a follow up remix CD in ‘07 and then still had five years left on our deal. We were in limbo. Recording had started and demos have lived, some, up to ten years. After we were free we got the braintrust together, Louis Svitek, Charles Levi, MTL, and long time producing friends The Thump and Seibold and went full bore into finishing the jams.”

After seven more years, two reissued releases from the Give/Take label, appearances at SxSW, Mechanismus Fesival and Sanctuary Festival, Project .44 was able to take the final sprint and complete work on their new album.

You get 11 tracks of brutal Chicago industrial with Chri5 Harri5 and fellow industrialists Louis Svitek (Ministry/ReVco), Charles Levi (Thrill Kill Kult/Pigface), Seibold (Hate Dept.) and guest appearances from En Esch (KMFDM/Pigface) and Lady E (Slick Idiot).

The CD features 3 bonus tracks with remixes from Jim Marcus (Die Warzau), Phildo Owen (Skatenigs) and Sean Payne (Cyanotic) The cassette and vinyl features 2 bonus tracks with remixes from Walter Flakus (Stabbing Westward) & Mark Trueman (Choke Chain).

Out now is KMFDM’s newest album “In Dub”. Well, new? On the follow-up to 2019’s “Paradise” the band is reinterpreting a selection of the group’s best known songs from their 36 career.

These are the tracks available and reinterpreted on the “In Dub” album.

KMFDM (originally Kein Mehrheit Für Die Mitleid, loosely translated by the band as “no pity for the majority”) was founded by Sascha Konietzko in 1984 as a performance art project.

The band’s earliest incarnation included German drummer En Esch and British vocalist Raymond Watts, the latter of whom left and rejoined the group several times over its history. The trio recorded the band’s earliest albums in Germany before Konietzko and Esch moved to the United States, where they found much greater success with the industrial record label Wax Trax!.

The rest is history.

Genre/Influences: EBM, electro-rock, industrial.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: John D. Norten is a veteran from the underground scene. Mainly active as a producer and mixer he’s also the creative spirit behind Blue Eyed Christ. The American formation got its success releasing on the Belgian KK Records the debut album “Leaders + Followers” in 1991. The song “Catch My Fall”, later on released as the EP title song, remains Norten’s biggest hit. A few more albums followed on an irregular basis. “World On Fire” is Blue Eyed Christ’s fifth opus and the first new one since “A Rush And A Thrill” (2014).  

Content: The album takes off with an intro followed by a heavy piece of music mixing electronics and guitar. It’s hard to define the style of the album, Blue Eyed Christ mixing multiple influences with each other. Experimenting with good-old EBM reminiscences –connected with the old hit “Catch My Fall”, other songs are more into speed rhythms empowered with meowing guitar parts. En Esch and Mea Fisher (Lords Of Acid) got featured at the title track, which is for sure one of the album’s most noticeable cuts.

The album sounds diversified in sound while pretty engaged when it comes to the lyrical content and sampled passages. John D. Norten clearly has a severe view upon his country. Why am I not surprised about this?!

+ + + : The least I can say is that Blue Eyed Christ achieved an album without real compromises. It’s a diversified work, becoming a sonic mishmash. Every song sounds different and driven by other influences. From this melting pot I personally like “Massive React” for its slow cadence and the kind of choir part. Another attention grabber is the already mentioned title song featuring En Esch and Mea Fisher. The song is carried by a great male-female duo. Last, but not least “The System Pt.2” is my personal favorite track for its electronic modernism.

– – – : Diversity is okay, but too much diversity resulted in a somewhat disjointed result. It probably explains why songs like “America H”, “Manic Adderall” and “The Slow Reverse” couldn’t convince me.

Conclusion: I got a similar feeling as with the previous album; I expected Blue Eyed Christ getting back to the early danceable EBM formula of “Catch My Fall” while getting something pretty different and not entirely convincing instead!

Best songs: “The System Pt.2”, “World On Fire”, “Massive React”.

Background/Info: The famous Wax Trax! Records label was originally much into new wave and punk music and was founded by Jim Nash and his partner Dannie Flesher in Denver in 1975. In 1978 the independent label moved to Chicago and became the most important record label and store/boutique for industrial music in the US that served as the headquarters of underground electronic and industrial bands in the eighties and nineties. The strong brand Wax Trax! offered record deals to the artists they liked (as fans) and also licensed European artists in America. The very impressive Wax Trax! catalogue featured well-known bands like Ministry, Front 242, Revolting Cocks, KMFDM, Front Line Assembly, Coil, Chris & Cosey and more!

A lot of hilarious anecdotes are explained by the contributing artists which makes it fun to watch! Al Jourgensen: “I played in Divine’s band by the way, playing guitar for Divine was … bizarre!”. Luc Van Acker, when speaking about Laibach: “How provocative can you be? It takes intelligent people to understand that! Wax Trax! created a space where we could do whatever we wanted!”. Unfortunately the label without business model (operating on trust, without contracts with their artists) declared bankruptcy in 1992 and Jim and Danny sold it to TVT Records. Jim Nash passed away on October 10, 1995 and Dannie Flesher deceased on January 10th, 2010.

+ + + : This 94 minutes (+ 75 extra minutes bonus material) documentary was directed by Julia Nash (daughter of Jim Nash) and won awards on the Santa Cruz Film Festival and Chicago Underground Film Festival. It is also available on Blu-Ray and as download on AppleTV, Amazon Prime and Google Play/YouTube Streaming.

– – – : Just one minor point: to make the circle complete, maybe an interview with some licensed European bands that were released by Wax Trax! (The Neon Judgement, The Young Gods, A Split Second, Laibach and more) would have been interesting, to hear their point of view.

Conclusion: Although it’s a huge story to tell the complete Wax Trax! history, this documentary gives a pretty good overview of what happened in the old days. Jim and Dannie “accidentally” built up the industrial scene in the US due to their passion and love for this music and bands and will never be forgotten!

Peter Turns Pirate (aka Neal Reed from Grendel) has released a brand new music video: “Jaw Drop”. It’s the 3rd music video for the project from Toronto (Canada) and the track itself is taken from his latest EP “View as strange”.

This video focuses entirely on the hard-hitiing drums of the track and features some of the electro scene’s most respected drummers: Galen Waling (Lords of acid, Julien K, PIG), Cristian Carver (Bella Morte, Panic Lift, Man1k1n) and Ben Tourkantonis (Grendel, Panic Lift).

PIG is back in business. Raymond Watts will be releasing the album “Risen” later in June. For this album he collaborated with Ben Christo, Z.Marr, En Esch, Tim Skold, Marc Heal, Phil Barry, Mark Thwaite, Anita Sylph and Emre Ramazanoglu.

• Maximus on the album “Gondwanaland”. Thirlwell, in turn, has cowritten and remixed songs for PIG.
• Watts recorded music for ex-girlfriend spoken-word artist Sow (aka Anna Wildsmith)’s 1994 album “Je M’Aime” and again for her
• 1998 album “Sick” and 2010 album “Dog”. “Je M’aime” was reissued under the name “Pig/Sow” in 1999.
• PIG’s 1995 album “Sinsation” was released in the US on Trent Reznor’s label Nothing Records.
• Several of his albums were originally released in Japan.
• Watts has performed with KMFDM as part of the touring lineup, with the concerts billed as “KMFDM featuring PIG”. The setlists for those shows feature KMFDM songs alongside Pig songs.

Background/Info: Klaus Schandelmaier better known under his artist name En Esch and his involvement in bands such as KMFDM, Pigface and Slick Idiot is back on track with a new full length under his own name. While En Esch released a few productions together with other artists, “Trash Chic” is his third album.

Content: “Trash Chic” is a solo-album although accomplished by the help of multiple ‘familiar’ contributors/guests such as Mona Mur, Guenter Schulz (ex-KMFDM), more collaborations with Trixie Reiss (Crystal Method), Alison Mack (Honest Marquee), Tasha Katrine & Rob Zilla (both More Machine Than Man), Raymond Watts ao.

The album became quite diversified although featuring the familiar ingredients of En Esch. The typical guitar riffs –which remain pretty close to KMFDM, mixed with electronic loops and an industrial sound atmosphere are still making the essence of this work. The vocals are mainly spooky while the female guests inject a more sensual touch.

There also is a remix of “Do Me” (which is a song that was originally released on the previous album “Spänk!”) by Leather Strip.

+ + + : En Esch is an artist I respect for having created his own style. It remains an essential aspect of this album, which  mixes electronics with guitar, alternating harder, danceable cuts with softer and sometimes more experimental pieces. I’m still totally wild about the guitar riffs creating this industrial touch. There’re a few great cuts featured and I especially want to recommend “Sweet Lord” and “Super Ego” while the Leather Strip remix is another attention grabber. The fans will be pleased to discover an album featuring 18 songs.

– – – : I like the title of the album although the title-song is a rather disappointing cut. A few more experimental-minded tracks aren’t exactly the best exponents of this work. En Esch remains pretty faithful to his sound formula so there’s no real trace of innovation here.

Conclusion: “Trash Chic” is an appropriated title for an album moving in between hard, familiar and typical En Esch songs at one side and softer cuts where he likes to experiment on the other side. The fans will get what they want!

Raymond Watts’s PIG and Mortiis are to co-headline a UK-tour in March. PIG are promoting their recently released album, “The Gospel” (available on vinyl too). Raymond Watts has enlisted former KMFDM colleagues En Esch and Günter Schulz, Greg Steward aka Z.Marr (formerly of Combichrist) and Galen Waling (Left Spine Down/16 Volt) for the live line-up.

PIG and Mortiis have recently reworked one of each other’s songs for new remix records. PIG’s is entitled “Swine & Punishment” and will be released in May. It also features remixes by the likes of Chris Vrenna (as Tweaker), Kanga, Skold and Marc Heal of Cubanate (as MC Lord Of The Flies).

Genre/Influences: Electro-rock, pop-rock.

Background/Info: Hailing from St. Petersburg (Russia) Ghostfeeder is a rather new name dealing with a mix of electronics and rock music. The band went on tour together with En Esch in 2015. “World Fameless” is the debut full length of this formation.

Content: From start on you rapidly will notice a mix of electronics and rock music. The drum sections and guitar are pretty rock-minded while the electro parts reveal some pop inspiration.

Most of the tracks are characterized by an interesting progression in the song structure. Some of the choruses reveal powerful outbursts. Next to a few powerful cuts the album also features a few softer pieces, which however remain pretty rough in sound.

+ + + : “World Fameless” reveals an interesting progression in the global structure of the composition. There’s a good balance between electronics and guitar. The guitar parts are quite powerful while the electronic treatments are made of dirty/raw electro sounds. Globally speaking the work is diversified and feature the contribution of En Esch as a special guest on the song “The Vampire Youth.”

– – – : Ghostfeeder is not exactly innovating in sound. Some tracks are rather powerful, but there’s no real climax and that’s what this album is mainly missing.

Conclusion: I can imagine this is the kind of music that could be more successful played live instead of listening to the CD. It’s not bad, but definitely not transcendental.

Best songs: ”Claws And Teeth”, “Let The Wolves Inside”.

Leaether Strip is back, after having worked 3 years on a new album, called “Spectator”. You can expect a mixture of old-school EBM, harsh rhythms and electronic ballads as we are used from him.
