Slovakian act KIFOTH has been active for over a quarter of a century and has released a considerable body of work on labels such as Out of Line, Vendetta Music, EK Product, and others. “Lost Territory” is their first new release in six years and also marks their debut on the fellow Slovakian label Aliens Production. However, the term ‘new album’ may be somewhat misleading, as it contains only four new tracks, followed by nine remixes—including reinterpretations of older material, by Samhain, Last Influence Of Brain, Sleepwalk, Disharmony, The Opposer Divine, Terminal State, Brain Leisure, Deflect, and The Witch Said No. The new tracks sound fantastic; pure old-school EBM crafted with intelligence. KIFOTH stays true to its trusted formula, which is reminiscent of Front Line Assembly: elaborate, dark tracks that strike a perfect balance between atmosphere and power. The rhythms are dynamic and therefore highly danceable. Above all, it is the way the songs are constructed—sometimes building toward a true climax—that defines this album.

The remixes are quite enjoyable but do not surpass the original versions. It is striking to find an older, land what forgotten band like Brain Leisure included on this album.

Unfortunately, this is not an album consisting solely of new material, but it is still well worth listening to. (Rating:8).

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
