Manchester post-punk outfit Inca Babies release the new single and video “Two Rails To Nowhere,” taken from the forthcoming album “Reincarnation,” due November 28, 2025 via Black Lagoon Records.
The re-imagined collection revisits selected tracks from the band’s catalogue. “Two Rails To Nowhere” first appeared on the 1988 album “Evil Hour.”
Frontman Harry Stafford explains the approach of the video like this: “The song was a take on Western blues, in the guise of Woody Guthrie and Burl Ives, maybe having the same sorrowful tale of ‘Worried Man Blues’ from the 50s. Now it has been re-recorded and slowed down to a more contemplative pace, and with floating guitars and harmonic vocal blues the story becomes all the more of the prison song it was intended to be.
The new version features bottleneck slide from Vincent O’Brien and rhythm backing from Rob Haynes; note that the video relocates the narrative to present-day Manchester.
This is the second single after “Candy Mountain” released earlier this year and which also premiered on Side-Line.
“Reincarnation” will be out November 28, 2025 on CD and digital and was recorded and mixed at 6dB Studios (Salford) by Simon “Ding” Archer and Harry Stafford. The whole was mastered by Marco Butcher (Boombox Studio, North Carolina).
About Inca Babies
Inca Babies formed in Manchester, England in 1982/83, initially releasing on their own Black Lagoon imprint before issuing albums and singles through labels including Constrictor. Early work culminated in four BBC John Peel sessions (1984–1987).
After disbanding in the late 1980s following “Evil Hour” (1988), the group reformed in 2007, later issuing new material such as “Ghost Mechanic Nine” (2024) and continuing live activity across the UK and Europe. The current line-up features Harry Stafford (guitar, keys, vocals), Rob Haynes (drums), Dave Carmichael (bass) and Jim Adama (guitar).
Recent activity includes the 2025 campaign for “Reincarnation,” a re-recorded set documented by outlets such as Louder Than War; prior 2025 single “Candy Mountain” previewed the album.
Chief editor of Side-Line – which basically means I spend my days wading through a relentless flood of press releases from labels, artists, DJs, and zealous correspondents. My job? Strip out the promo nonsense, verify what’s actually real, and decide which stories make the cut and which get tossed into the digital void. Outside the news filter bubble, I’m all in for quality sushi and helping raise funds for Ukraine’s ongoing fight against the modern-day axis of evil.
