Brooddark – Overvoltage (Digital/CD Album – Cryo Chamber)
Little information is available about Yaroslav Gavrilyuk and his sonic alter ego, Brooddark. A collaboration with Tsarewitch was also released this year, but this marks his official solo debut.
The seven tracks sound blacker than night itself. You are immediately transported into an obscure, menacing, imaginary world shaped by extremely low tones and shifting sound waves. Field recordings amplify the grim character of the opus, which can rightfully be described as an ultra-dark Cinematic ensemble. A pulsating, heartbeat-like element reinforces the terrifying—and at times slightly paranoid—atmosphere. Although a few sections lean toward monotony, everything ultimately culminates in a truly freakish climax in the final track.
This album fluctuates between genuine highs and occasional lows, but above all, it introduces an extremely intriguing project with undeniable promise. (Rating:8).
