Unhappily Ever Now has released the digital single “To The Light.” The track was written as a tribute to his cat by songwriter, Stephen Watson, and captures the bittersweet beauty of unconditional love and the ache of time passing too quickly.

“He’s been with me through everything,” songwriter Stephen Watson says. “His presence gave me strength when I didn’t have any. This song isn’t a goodbye – it’s a promise that his love will always live in me.”

About Unhappily Ever Now

Unhappily Ever Now is the project of Stephen Watson (primary songwriter, guitars/keys/vocals) and Maria V (vocals/lyrics). Watson is also known as songwriter of Cleopatra Records’ recording artist, Green Jelly.

The duo describes its sound as alt/rock/art-rock. The group became publicly active with a self-titled debut EP in 2021, followed by a 2022 remix EP featuring Assemblage 23, The Joy Thieves, and 00tz 00tz. In May 2023, they issued the single “Pleading (The Haunting of Scars)” and, later that year, released Rabbit Junk and Stabbing Westward remixes.

In May 2025, the band returned with “Orestes” (A Perfect Circle cover), before sharing “To The Light” in October 2025.

Why we ask

Advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations we have not put up a paywall, and we refuse to add annoying advertising, so we need to ask for your help. Side-Line’s independent journalism takes time, money and hard work to produce, and we do it to push the artists we like, who are equally fighting to survive.
