(Picture by Bryan Amann) As we reported a while back, Erasure frontman Andy Bell is planning a new solo album. The news has now been officially confirmed. For his second solo album Andy Bell will be collaborating with Jane's Addiction's Perry Farrel and The B-52s' Kate Pierson. The album is being produced by Pascal Gabriel.
For those unfamiliar with Pascal Gabriel, this Belgian musician started his musical career in 1977 in the punk rock band The Razors before leaving Belgium for London where he worked as a freelance sound engineer in various studios. He quickly earned a reputation for innovative remixes for artists like Marc Almond and Yello. Toward the end of the 1980s, Gabriel was a producer and co-writer for S'Express and Bomb the Bass. He also worked with Claudia Brücken (formerly of Propaganda), Erasure, and Debbie Harry. In the '90s, Gabriel co-produced the track "Regret" for New Order and collaborated with EMF, Inspiral Carpets and Kitchens of Distinction. In 1997 he formed the band Peach ("Peach Union" in the US) and wrote several songs for the then unsigned singer Dido. Those tracks included "I'm No Angel" and "Here with Me". In 2002, Gabriel began writing with and producing tracks for Australia's Kylie Minogue, including "Your Love" for her "Fever" album.

Also, in a Q&A with Erasure fans at erasureinfo.com Andy Bell also voiced some criticism on the newest Depeche Mode album "Sounds of the universe" when asked if he had heard their newest album: "I think I prefer the more dancey ones, the more electronic ones. I quite enjoyed where they were going with it but I'm not a huge fan of theirs - although I love some of their stuff - but I did think it was quite interesting. I shouldn't say this really but I think for all the experiences they have been through it should have been... more, somehow!"
