LPF12 – Missiles (Digital Album – LPF12)

May 22,2017

Genre/Influences: IDM, electro-ambient, cinematographic.

Background/Info: LPF12 is back on track with a new addition to the impressive discography of German artist Sascha Lemon. It all started in the early 90s with a rough electro-industrial sound and progressively evolved towards refined and complex IDM.

Content: “Missiles” totally matches with the latest releases I’ve heard from LPF12. He mixes different genres with each other. It definitely remains an IDM inspired opus, but the cinematographic approach never has been that much at the forefront. Numerous little space bleeps and astral atmospheres support the work with grace and coldness. Most of the cuts indeed are pretty dreamy-like, but other passages invite the listener to walk through cold sonic treatments.

+ + + : I was impressed by the ambient direction of this work, which really comes close to pure cinematographic music. It reveals an artist who’s constantly evolving and experimenting with new ideas. LPF12 remains a truly prolific project, but the quality of the work never suffers under the number of releases. This album is filled with subtle arrangements and delicate noises while slow rhythms make it all more accessible.

– – – : “Missiles” is an album, which needs a few attentive listening before you really can get into it. No doubt about it, I prefer some previous and more ‘classical’ IDM driven work although I have to admit this is a noticeable evolution in this artist’s career. It’s maybe just a little less accessible.

Conclusion: “Missiles” is probably the most soundtrack-orientated work from LPF12, this way maybe revealing a new path for future productions.

Best songs: “Arya”, “Dhaveq”, “Open Invitation”.

Rate: (7½).

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 2 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
