Out via Out Of Line Music is the all new single by Sweden’s industrial metal act Rave The Reqviem: “Anti-Savior”. You may expect down-tempo industrial beats meet heavy guitars and catchy hooks featuring opera vocals by former lead singer The Holy Mother.

It was the Japan-based label DWA that first discovered the band and released their debut album in 2014. They signed with the German label Out Of Line Music in 2017. After gaining access to a wider audience with their albums “Fvneral [Sic]” (2018) and “Stigmata Itch” (2020), the band led by songwriter Filip Lönnqvist is now back with new material.

The band was formed in Kalmar, Sweden in late 2011 by lead singer and guitarist Philip Lönnqvist, who also provides the electronic elements.

Below is the band’s newest single, “Anti-Savior” featuring two other tracks as well.

Genre/Influences: Electro-Metal.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: “Stigmata Itch” is the fourth full length album by Swedish power band Rave The Reqviem. Driven by the creative spirit of Filip Lönnqvist, the band welcomes a new female vocalist. ‘The Sister Svperior’ already is the band’s third female vocalist since the set up.

Content: A new singer doesn’t necessarily mean a new sound! Rave The Reqviem moves on mixing heavy Metal-driven guitar together with Electronics. From very explicit Metal passages towards bombastic – epic arrangements the songs are all driven by rage and fury. There’s a perfect balance between power and melodies, even resulting in a few more ‘Indie’-like passages (cf. “Colossvs”, “Aerial”). The new female singer sounds like she has always been a member of the band and sounds like the perfect match between her elevating vocals and the enraged shouts of Filip Lönnqvist.

+ + + : There are not many bands in the spirit of Rave The Reqviem; there’re legions of Metal influenced bands, but less mixing this influence together with explicit Electronics. It creates a powerful and melodic harmony with elevating choruses. “Alpha vs. Omega” is a great exposure of this approach. It’s fully representative for this band; powerful, furious and even extreme although accessible. The album moves on where previous productions stopped. This work is the symbiosis between evil forces and heavenly inspiration! I also enjoyed the epic arrangements coming mainly through at “Majordomo”.

– – – : There’s no real innovation in sound and global approach of the production, so Rave The Reqviem starts to become more predictable, but it’s not really a problem as this band rocks!

Conclusion: Rave The Reqviem moves on improving their writing and production while holding on their influences; a great Metal format!

Best songs: “Alpha vs. Omega”, “Holy Homicide”, “Colossvs”, “She Will Weep”.

Background/Info: The new Blutengel album comes exactly 20 years after the band’s official debut opus “Child Of Glass”. Blutengel became one of the absolute leading formations from the electro-underground scene and has never stopped releasing referential albums. After the brilliant “Vampire”- and “Surrender To The Darkness”-EPs we now get “Un:Gott” featuring 15 songs on the main disc and 9 remixes on the bonus disc.

Content: Blutengel remains faithful to its dark/wave-pop music mainly characterized by solid melody lines and great choruses, but it’s also an album with empowering guitar parts. The familiar “Vampire” song is one of the best illustrations from this ‘heavier’ and yet melodic approach. “Un:Gott” also appears as one of the Blutengel albums with more English sung songs than ever before. Chris Pohl’s deep timbre of voice excels in charisma while Ulrike Goldmann brings her familiar heavenly and sensual touch to the work.

The bonus disc features remixes by Rave The Reqviem, Any Second, Wort-Ton, Angriffspakt, X-RX, Rabia Sorda, Harmjoy, Battlescream and one remix of the song “Auf Deinen Wegen” (originally featured at the “Vampire”-EP) remixed by Blutengel.

+ + + : Blutengel holds on to the elements that have made this band become what they are today. It’s a dark and melodic electro/wave-pop format on, which Chris Pohl once more excels in the writing of carrying melody lines. But the essence of a ‘great’ pop song also is the power and magic of a chorus and here again “Un:Gott” confirms great skills. But Blutengel is not a ‘classical’ formation dealing with pop, but a formation with a very specific sound DNA; a band you can’t compare with any other one. And also a band that all over the years has progressively evolved, accentuating some elements of the production such as powerful guitar parts. I also have to say a word about the meaningful lyrical content, which has something deep, metaphoric and psychological. “Vampire” remains an absolute attention grabber –and definitely one of my all time favorite Blutengel songs, but I also have to mention “Into The Void”, “Alles”, “Surrender To The Darkness” and “Morningstar”.

Among the remixes I noticed great contributions by Rave The Reqviem, Angriffspakt and X-RX.

– – – : Remixes always are a nice addition as extra disc, but they don’t really bring a bonus compared to the original versions.

Conclusion: Blutengel has released an impressive number of albums over the past 20 years, but I definitely consider “Un:Gott” as one of the most accomplished and successful ones. A must have!

Best songs: “Vampire”, “Into The Void”, “Alles”, “Surrender To The Darkness”, “Morningstar”, “Am Ende Der Zeit”, “Praise The Lord” + “Into The Void – Rave The Reqviem Remix”.

Artists: Blutengel, Solar Fake, Rummelsnuff, Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio, Heimataerde, Rave The Reqviem, Fear Of Domination, Davey Suicide, Combichrist, Rabia Sorda, Ost-Front, Solitary Experiments, Melotron, Hocico, Signal Aout 42, Accessory, Dive, Suicide Commando, Amduscia ao.

Content: The first disc is the most eclectic one although more focalized around gothic-inspired formations. The second disc reveals the ‘newest’ direction of the label, which is inspired by metal-related formations. This is an opportunity to discover different bands that aren’t (or not yet) signed to Out Of Line. Finally we get the last disc revealing electronic bands that have made the name and reputation of Out Of Line.

+ + + : This new edition is quite fascinating for its diversity revealing a label, which has seriously enlarged its sonic horizon throughout the years, but especially during the past few years. The tracklist is impressive and confirms the leading status of the label. When a label has bands such as Blutengel, Suicide Commando, Hocico, Dive, Solitary Experiments, Ost-Front, Combichrist, Ordo Rosarius Equilbrio, Client ao flying under their wings you only, but agree this is a major company.

– – – : From a very personal point of view I’m not totally convinced by the metal direction of the label although it clearly will catch the attention of a wider -and different audience. But my main regret is that the familiar bands have been featured with known songs. I even noticed Angels & Agony with a song from 2015!

Conclusion: This is a colossal compilation, which is really interesting if you’re not that familiar with Out Of Line and/or simply you’re a die-hard fan of the Berlin-based label.

Best bands: Blutengel, The Ritualists, Heimataerde, Rave The Reqviem, Rabia Sorda, Solitary Experiments, Massive Ego, Chrom, Dive, Amduscia.

The band signed to DWA and released its first productions. The previous album “The Gospel Of Nil” (2016) saw the band dealing with a more metal-driven sound. The band now joined hands with Out Of Line to unleash their third opus. One major change happened in the line-up. Filip’s mother (aka ‘The Holy Mother’) who was the lead singer left the band and got replaced by Jenny Fagerstrandh (aka ‘The Seraph’).

Content: This album moves on there where “The Gospel Of Nil” ended. It’s a furious production carried by heavy, aggressive and pure metal-sounding guitar playing while electronic arrangements inject an epic touch to the work. The rhythms are furious and sometimes pretty hard-core like. The new female vocalist seems to feel perfectly comfortable and brings a heavenly and artistic touch to the album. There’re still multiple male vocal parts as well.

+ + + : This album stands for the ultimate fusion between metal- and industrial/electro music. Both genres are totally complementary, which is an essential element of this work you also will find back in the female- (leading) and male (backing) vocals. This work stands for power and harmony! The epic touch supporting the opus is also characteristic and accentuating a kind of drama. There’s multiple noticeable songs featured here and even potential hits. That’s also because of the fully accomplished and elevating choruses.

– – – : Rave The Reqviem hasn’t reinvented the industrial-metal style and that’s probably the single remark I can imagine about this album.

Conclusion: I personally consider Rave The Reqviem as one of the most promising bands in their genre. They’re constantly improving their sound and global production, which resulted in a brilliant opus! This band has the potential to become one of Out Of Line’s leading formations.

Best songs: “Saint Jvdas”, “Ghost Royale”, “Skydweller”, “Are Yov Happy Now, Fidelio”.

Rate: (8½).

He got joined by his mother Carola aka The Holy Mother and a few other members. The band deals with a mix of hard metal influences and dark-electronics. They recently released their new opus “The Gospel Of Nil” on Digital World Audio. This second album is a furious and artistic production, which for sure will find new disciples getting faithful to the ‘Church of Rave The Reqviem’.

(by Inferno Sound Diaries)

Q: I think that the initial purpose of Rave The Reqviem was to mix different music genres with each other so what does it say about potential sources of inspiration?

The Prophet: As a result of growing up in the ’90s, eurodance and American nu-metal will always have a special place in my heart. My teenage years were spent listening to various forms of gothic and extreme metal, as well as classical music. It was not until later I discovered industrial music.

Rave The Reqviem is pretty much a bizarre hybrid of these elements. It’s a pure reflection of my soul, as well as my taste in music. I’ve never been able to understand how people can be selective about music. To me, genres are just different ways of describing the same basic human emotions. But then again, I was the only kid in school who listened to both Napalm Death and Aqua, so maybe I’m just mentally disturbed?

Q: Rave The Reqviem became a real ‘band’, but what does it mean to you and what’s the input of each member?

The Prophet: The ‘band’ you’re referring to is my church. The Chvrch Of RTR. They are the clergy. All music and lyrics are still composed and produced by me, but each and every member is equally passionate and devoted to the cause. Even if I’m the primary creator and artistic director, we all stand as one. For example, The Archbishop is a professional video producer and editor. Our excellent music video productions would never have happened if it wasn’t for him.

Q: It’s really unique to get an underground band featuring a mother and her son while most parents don’t often share the same music taste of their kids. What makes this complicity?

The Prophet: My mother introduced me to the magical world of music before I was even born. She has always had a rebellious mind and a thirst for freedom, which she passed down to me. That way, she’s often been a ‘friend’ rather than a traditional mother. We have been singing and performing together for as long as I can remember. That’s why it felt natural to invite her to Rave The Reqviem. It was not until later I realized that a lot of people were provoked by it.

Q: You recently released your second full length “The Gospel Of Nil”. Tell us a bit more about the new work and were there some elements from the debut album you tried to improve/change?

The Prophet: “The Gospel Of Nil” is a concept album about the artist’s endless and destructive struggle for success and revenge. It puts slightly more focus on the ‘metal side’ of my music. It’s a dark and melancholic album, which came as a result of the tough times I was going through at that time. Since the establishment of The Chvrch Of RTR – my clergy and ‘live crew’ – it also felt natural to approach a sound which was closer to our live performances.

Q: Do you have some favorite lyrical themes and what’s hidden behind the band name, nicknames and some titles of songs referring to religious/sacred subjects?

The Prophet: My favorite source of inspiration is – as always – the Bible. It’s a bizarre, relentless and brutal book, full of inspiration for any tortured mind. I also like ancient Greek- and Roman mythology, which is equally disturbing. Every sacred text is – deep down – a poetic and dramatic guide book on how to survive emotionally in this cruel world. They’re all based on human suffering, in one way or another. Just like my lyrics.

That’s also the thought behind The Chvrch Of RTR and all individual titles. Music is my church. This is my religion. My purgatory – my cleansing of the soul – where I spit out the poison. My way of bringing an equal amount of hope and despair to the audience.

Q: Tell us a bit more about the live performances?

The Prophet: Our live mass is exactly what you would expect it to be. An energetic, fanatical and mind-blowing experience. Ecstacy for our Believers!

Background/Info: Swedish electro/industrial-metal formation Rave The Reqviem recently released an impressive EP “Mono Heart” as a teaser to their second full length. One of the main particularities of the band remains the line-up featuring creative mind ‘The Prophet’ (aka Filip Lönnqvist) and soprano singer ‘The Holy Mother’ (who is the mother of Lönnqvist).

Content: After an epic-sounding intro Rave The Reqviem directly reveals the main substances of their work. The sound is a perfect offspring between metal-driven guitar parts and dark-electronic sounds. The heavenly and charismatic vocals of The Holy Mother adds an artistic and graceful touch to the work.

The songs are driven by furious guitar playing while totally accomplished by the electronic layers. The album is fast and powerful, but also melodic and features refined arrangements. It’s pure crossover featuring some extra epic and even doom elements.

+ + + : “The Gospel Of Nil” has been accomplished with a right balance between metal- and electronic music, both genres being complementary. The cement between these influences maybe is the alluring vocalist, which is not only adding a transcendental touch to the album, but still a powerful exposure. There where you think that this is pure metal you’ll always find a more electro-driven input getting some equilibrium.

The EP-song remains one of the most solid exposures of this album, but I also have to mention “Eschaton” and “The Primary Fvuel”. This work sounds merciless and achieved with an impressive maturity.

– – – : Rave The Reqviem is sometimes sitting in between two chairs. Even if they’ve found the secret formula to create a perfect osmosis between electronics and metal-music they’re probably too metal-minded for electro heads and maybe not enough metal-driven for purists.

Conclusion: “The Gospel Of Nil” confirms the growing status of this formation, which hasn’t reinvented crossover, but clearly avoids easy clichés. Rave The Reqviem rocks and I can imagine their sound transposed into overwhelming live shows.

Best songs: “Mono Heart”, “Eschaton”, “I Hold The Sprectre”, “The Primary Fvel”.

Rate: (8).

Background/Info: Rave The Reqviem actually has their second full length album “The Gospel Of Nil” in the pipeline. “Mono Heart” is meant as an appetizer to welcome the new opus of the Swedish formation driven by ‘The Prophet’ (aka Filip Lönnqvist) and ‘The Holy Mother’ (Filip’s mother). This release is also available as a strictly limited 7” vinyl.

Content: Rave The Reqviem moves on mixing great dark-electronics together with harsh and metal-driven guitar parts. There’s a nice duality running on “Mono Heart”, which also is the main element of the vocals production. You have the harsh and ‘evil’ vocals of ‘The Prophet’ at one side and the angelic, soprano vocals of ‘The Holy Mother’ at the other side. It creates a delicious twist revealing a great title song.

The “Electro Mix” sounds like the title indicates much more electro-wise while the B-side song “The Antedilvvian Lullaby”is something totally different. This song has been fixed with symphonic arrangements and female vocals rise to the surface. It’s an original song although not fully representative for this band and which even makes me think of an industrial version of Enya.

+ + + : “Mono Heart” is an excellent EP to announce the new album by Rave The Reqviem. The title song is absolutely great revealing a great mix between electronics and metal, but still noticeable electro treatments. The B-side cut is something you clearly can put on an EP. It reveals a different face of the band and who knows, maybe the basis for a more conceptual album or a side-project.

– – – : I like the B-side song, but it’s for sure not the most representative cut from this band. This EP is clearly meant to promote the upcoming full length.

Conclusion: Rave The Reqviem is one of those bands trying to compose something different. The mix of dark-electro and metal music is not that new, but definitely not common and not always that successful, but this band seems to have found the key to success!

Best songs: “Mono Heat”, “Mono Heat – Electro Mix”.

Rate: (7½).

Band: www.facebook.com/ravethereqviem / www.facebook.com/ravethereqviem

Swedish singer/songwriter Filip Lönnqvist‘s self-titled debut album “Rave The Reqviem” was the breakout success story of 2014 on the Deathwatch Asia label. Two years later, Filip – now accompanied by a full 5-piece band – has finally put the finishing touches to the follow-up, his first concept album “The Gospel of Nil”.

The CD’s first edition comes in a luxurious and collectible hardback mediabook format – available right here for ordering – with an integral 20-page lyric booklet. The 11-track album “The Gospel of Nil” has been deliberately written and produced as an album which goes way deeper into metal territory than ever before, so you are warned.

Listen to “Mono Heart” to get an idea of what to expect:

Outside the news filter bubble, I’m all in for quality sushi and helping raise funds for Ukraine’s ongoing fight against the modern-day axis of evil.
And good to know, the single is also available as limited edition lathe-cut transparent vinyl 7″ – or ultra-limited double-vinyl 7″ besides the regular download which you can get ahold of right here on Bandcamp. You can check the different trackless right here.

“Mono Heart”, like the rest of the band’s upcoming second album, was mixed and mastered by André Alvinzi (of Swedish metal studio Fascination Street). Alvinzi ‘s previous credits include the mixing and mastering of albums by Insomnium and The Forsaken, keyboards and additional programming for bands such as Amorphis, Angra and Moonspell, and the 5.1 surround sound mix of the latest At The Gates album (assisted by Linus Corneliusson).

Listen to the single below and download it here:

Mono Heart by RAVE THE REQVIEM

Regarding the 2 “b-sides”, first of all there’s the alternate mix of “Mono Heart” which was engineered by Johan Ramström of RamPac – the songwriting/production duo known for producing artists such as Swingfly and Crashdiet. Working primarily with top level Swedish mainstream artists, RamPac have been involved in several productions featured in the Swedish Eurovision Song Contest.

The second non-album bonus track comes in the shape of symphonic ballad “The Antedilvvian Lvllaby” – which serves as a vehicle for both the melancholic side of Filip Lönnqvist’s songwriting and the solo vocal talents of Carola Lönnqvist. Co-produced by Egosoft GmbH video game music composer Alexei Zakharov (whose talents also feature on the upcoming second album),”The Antedilvvian Lvllaby” presents a very different sound of the band.

I’m not that surprised as the album reveals an interesting mix of electronics and pure metal influences. It’s not that new, but always a cool alternative to the typical dark-electro standards.

The album has been now re-released featuring an extra disc filled with remixes. These remixes are available on digital format with some extra bonus remixes on top. It became a quite familiar formula at DWA to re-release the original full length with an extra disc full of remixes. It also is an opportunity to rediscover the original songs a different way while the list of artists that have been asked for a remix is often impressive while featuring many previously unreleased remixes.

“Remix The Reqviem” reveals an interesting selection of label mates like Ruinizer, Nitro/Noise, vProjekt next to established names like Grendel; iVardensphere, Faderhead ao. And there once more are some real noticeable remixes revealing different influences. I even have to say that this is probably one of the best albums in this ‘remix’-concept. I can’t say that there are real hits among it although the quality level of the remixes is consistant and really high.

I’ll recommend Ruinizer for their hard electronic and epic remix of “Thistleblower”, which is for sure one of the main songs. Another label mate, Nitro/Noise did a great job as well remixing

“Schizophrenia In Reverse” in a quite smashing electro-metal way. “The Svlphvry Void” was reworked by Faderhead into a totally different approach, which accentuates the electronic manipulations of this electro-body-pop artist. One greater remix is the intelligent approach by ΔAimon on “Ikaros”.

As I already said there’s a lot to experience on “Remix The Reqviem”. I also have to mention the powerful remix of “Thristleblower” by Grendel, which put a techno-minded kick on it.
Animal Tag is for sure one of the less familiar names among the remixes, but their remix of “Aeon” is quite an interesting one. It reminds me a bit of the anarchistic hard-core sound of Ultraviolence. This remix brings something totally different, which can also be said for iVardensphere and their remix of “Is Apollo Still Alive?”.

Conclusion: This is a fascinating way to rediscover the album “Rave the Reqviem” through the eyes and the musical brain of other bands. This album is fully complementary to the original work.

Best songs: “Thistleblower – Ruinizer Remix”, “The Svlphvry Void – Faderhead Remix”, “Ikaros – ΔAimon Remix”, “Thistleblower – Grendel Remix”, “Schizophrenia In Reverse – Nintro/Noise Remix”.

For the 3rd and final single (“Is Apollo Still Alive?”) to be taken from Swedish industrial metal-step crossover act Rave The Reqviem’s self-titled debut album, DWA has taken full advantage of both the song’s length and the length of the 3 remixes presented alongside it to squeeze both 4 tracks of CD-audio and – on the first 100 copies only – to lathe-cut the title track for vinyl playback.

Yes – you read that correctly. The first 100 copies of the “Is Apollo Still Alive?” CD (available here) are in fact ‘a hybrid CD/vinyl’ – a format so rare that it doesn’t even really have a name and is only produced by one company on the planet.

Below you can see how that looks like as DWA provided us a picture of the final product.

The CD comes with a special plastic adaptor already inserted, in order to facilitate playback on a record deck. The vinyl track is lathe-cut around the outer-most part of the CD (see also the picture), with the regular CD-audio data occupying the remaining space inside creating a highly unusual and unique artefact.

“Is Apollo Still Alive?” is released on October 9th, and can be pre-ordered now. Be fast if you want to be sure of picking up one of the lathe-cut CD-vinyl hybrid disc versions.

Quite a nice stunt from DWA!
