Background/Info: Serbian Scorpio V better known as Metatron Omega is back on track unleashing his fifth full length album. The work has been introduced as arriving ‘to the sound of thunderous choirs from within the colossal church.’

Content: This artist has been always driven by mystic- and ritual themes which have been accentuated by the power and magic of choir passages. The work has been accomplished by dark tones and percussion effects.

+ + + : The main strength of this new work is its ‘pure’ Dark-Ambient format. This artist brings some diversity to the label’s roster which remains mainly driven by Cinematic music. Both genres are related and even pretty close but there are nuances. The main strength of “ISIH” is the sacred atmosphere which is very powerful. You really get the feeling of sitting in a chair and hearing the trembling and echoing choirs. The sound atmosphere totally fits with the artwork.

– – – : The best cuts are right at the beginning; both last tracks being not my favorites.

Conclusion: I remain addicted to the early Ritual work of this artist although he’s also a talented Dark-Ambient composer.

Metatron Omega – Evangelikon (CD Album – Cryo Chamber)

Genre/Influences: Dark-ambient, dark-cinematographic.

Background/Info: Serbian artist Scorpio V is back on track unleashing his fourth full length album since 2015. Metatron Omega has always been inspired by ritual- and symbolic themes, which is not that different for “Evagelikon”.

Content: Both debut albums of this project were clearly into ritual-music. Since the album “Illumination” the ritual touch sounds a bit more in the background and the new work confirms this move. It however remains a strange universe constructed by overwhelming sound waves, heavy sonic blasts plus lost and spooky voices.

+ + + : Metatron Omega has clearly evolved throughout the few years of activity, but it remains a fascinating production. I was impressed by the monstrous sound treatments resulting in heavy, blasting passages. “Kosmokrator” is a brilliant illustration of this sonic approach. “Evagelikon” reaches an imaginary climax of torment and anguishing sound experiences. This kind of production will bring you imagination awake, leading you throughout real nightmares.

– – – : I’m still more convinced by the early work of this project although I have to admit there’s a constant evolution in the production.

Conclusion: Even the most evil ghost would be scared when listening to Metatron Omega!

Metatron Omega – Illuminatio (CD Album – Cryo Chamber)

Background/Info: This is the third full length album released by Serbian project Metatron Omega. I was deeply impressed by previous releases revealing a great mix between dark-ambient and ritual music. “Illuminatio” walks on the exploration of ancient mystery schools, esoteric Western tradition, Kabbalah, Gnosticism, esoteric Christianity, secret societies and all mysteries of the Divine

Content: The main difference with previous work is the less ritual-orientated approach of the composition. Metatron Omega however remains inspired by dark-ambient music and even remind me of Raison D’Être on a few cuts. Buzzing sound signals and deep, vibrating sound waves lead the listener into a paranoiac feeling.

+ + + : Metatron Omega remains driven by dark and disturbing music, creating a pure fantasy universe. This brings the listener into a sonic web of great sound treatments and overwhelming atmospheres. I sometimes get the impression of getting lost in an imaginary cathedral where you can hear the resonating dark sonic vibes of the musician. “Thy Light” is a real major piece, creating a truly climax of sonic fear. The final track reminds me of the glorious days of Raison D’Être, which according to me remains the absolute reference in this kind of music. Serbian artist Scorpio V definitely belongs to the new generation of genius composers in this music genre.

– – – : Speaking for myself I’m missing the ritualistic touch of the debut album. On the other side, this album also features an artist who’s not repeating himself, but simply tries to walk on different paths while holding on some sound identity. It’s not my favorite Metatron Omega album and yet, it remains a great piece of music.

Conclusion: Metatron Omega symbolizes the dark-ambient style of the years 2010, which is an approach reminding great artists from the 90s and early millennium years. This album is an antidote to happiness although a dark-ambient work can make you happy as well..

Continuing their yearly tradition, the label picked some interesting releases released this year and made an hour track out of it. Some of the tracks fall well within the dark ambient borders, while some other tracks scratch at the surface extending it’s inky tendrils all over neighbouring genres.

Paleowolf, side project of Scorpio V of Metatron Omega, has just released new album on Cryo Chamber – stream the new album ‘Genesis’

A few days ago we informed that Paleowolf had joined the Cryo Chamber label. Paleowolf is the side project of Scorpio V of Metatron Omega. For those not familiar with Metatron Omega, it’s an esoteric / occult / religious dark ambient act combining religious choral chant, occult ritualistic invocations, dark soundscapes and drones. Paleowolf on the other hand focuses more on tribal/dark ambient again with choral chants.

Out today is “Genesis”, an album which will with no doubt please the Arcana and Irfan fans as well. It’s out on CD (available here) and as a high quality download via Bandcamp.

I last year discovered the debut-album “Gnosis Dei” of Metatron Omega. The Serbian project is driven by ‘Scorpio V’ who claims to be inspired ‘by ancient mystery schools, esoteric Western tradition, Kabbalah, Gnosticism, esoteric Christianity, secret societies and all mysteries of the Divine.’ Metatron Omega recently released a new opus entitled “Sanctum”, which sounds like the natural continuance of the dark-ambient and ritual style revealed on the first album. Both album have been released on Cryo Chamber.

Q: What can you tell us about the name Metatron Omega and do you have any particular references and influential bands when it comes to compose your music?

MO: The name is symbolic representing the path to acquire greater knowledge, or to get close to the Creator of the Universe; the singularity, ‘Omega’ point, name it as you want, thus achieving its supposed purpose. ‘Metatron’ is a representation of a being that stands by the side of godlike forces, a messenger of the non-manifested information. It exists to channel the essence of higher dimensions to the lower ones. Omega is representing the ultimate attainment of everything there is to attain, and the glorious end of the Universe that comes as a natural consequence after that sacred act.

I don’t have any particular references for the music other than dark-ambient as a stellar and an inspiration genre itself. I can get inspired by one single chord or sample of a sound and my mind creates a entire new universe around it. Church, choirs and religious / ritual- and ambient music obviously are the biggest sources of inspiration to me providing great deal of identity to this project.

Q: Can you analyze any possible evolution in sound and writing from “Gnosis Dei” towards “Sanctum”?

MO: It’s very hard for me to do the comparison because I consider both releases as accompanying each other. While both of them are unique and somewhat technically different from one another, in my mind they intertwine and create a singular, continuous narrative. Things I didn’t or didn’t want to include in “Gnosis Dei” are included in “Sanctum”, and things that differ in “Sanctum” are things that are actually missing from “Gnosis Dei”.

It can sound weird but I created both albums while having in mind both albums. I can now say that I consider the next release as a perfect triangulating point of these two, yet at the same time constructing the universe of its own.

Q: Your sound reveals an explicit and overwhelming ritual element. Tell us a bit more about this essential aspect of your work and how do you work on it?

MO: This element is something that comes to me naturally when I’m working on this project. I don’t actually intend to make the sound ‘ritual’ or ‘occult’ or whatever. I enter in a kind of meditative state where I’m in touch with the visions of some greater power that operates this Universe, of ancient archetypes of gods and pantheons, of secret teachings from a forgotten mystery cults, and so on. I can get inspired with an image of an old monastery, or sunlight passing through the clouds and then try to make a ‘soundtrack’ of that. So basically, the sound you hear is the channeling of these energies that stream from my mind, both conscious and unconscious parts.

Q: The front-cover of “Sanctum” looks great and ritual-like as well. What is it all about?

MO: It’s about a journey that one goes through mainly in life, but also after this life, in order to comprehend and achieve one’s own purpose in it. The figure that’s in front represents this seeker of the Truth – that can be you, me or anyone that considers his time on this Earth as a time to search for the ultimate Cause and Effect. This journey is a kind of pilgrimage through the inner world, in order to reveal the secrets of one’s self, and while revealing the depths of your own being, you are getting very close in revealing the depths of the Universe.

Q: Can you reveal the instruments/equipment you’ve used to achieve “Sanctum”?

MO: I used everything I could in order to create the intended atmosphere and channel the energy in the right way. That includes various field recordings, recorded samples, synths… Literally anything on what I could put my hands on and felt that it helps to build the desired atmosphere.

Q: You’ve been one of the numerous artists contributing to the Cryo Chamber-collaboration album “Nyarlathotep”. What has been your input on this work and how did it feel when discovering the final result?

MO: We all had equal share of inputs in this one and I think each input weighs the same. This release is special because you can’t pinpoint who’s done what and can’t actually compare the works. With Metatron Omega in mind, input in terms of ritual and occult atmospheres seemed totally in place for this one. All in all, it has been a great pleasure and experience doing this (this is actually the first time I’ve done something like this) and I’m very satisfied with the result.

Nyarlathotep : A Cryo Chamber Collaboration (3CD Album – Cryo Chamber)

Background/Info: Cryo Chamber definitely appears to be under the influence of H.P. Lovecraft. The label already released the “Cthulhu”-collaboration featuring several label artists working together and achieving a great opus.

“Nyarlathotep” is a new collaboration between an impressive number of label formations. The story is about ‘A season of political and social upheaval. Mankind felt as if the world was at a breaking point, but no one wanted to speak of this. Seasons grew hotter. Our faith in the known gods faltered. The timing was ripe for the arrival of Nyarlathotep.’

It has been transposed into music by Kammarheit, God Body Disconnect, Dronny Darko, Ugasanie, Kristoffer Oustad, Alphaxone, Svartsinn, SiJ, Gydja, Atrium Carceri, Darkrad, Flowers For Bodysnatchers, Aegri Somnia, Randal Collier-Ford, Neizvestija, Metatron Omega, Wordclock, ProtoU, Northumbria, Sjellos, Sabled Sun, Council Of Nine, Cryobiosis, Apocryphos, Enmarta and Mystified. Three albums were accomplished.

Content: “Nyarlathotep 1” takes us away for a voyage throughout industrial metal sounds rapidly joined by dark, buzzing noise waves. The sound reveals heavy vibrations and the magic of an Eastern-like flute. We progressively join an imaginary world of obscure reverie, like entering a tenebrous universe featuring spooky voices. It also sounds like a misty sound universe made of disturbing passages accentuated by impressive sonic blasts.

“Nyarlathotep 2” definitely sounds more into the soundscape format. It’s not as heavy, but more into a dense and constant chilling atmosphere. It quite progressively evolves towards harder passages like echoing thunder in the background.

The final chapter and album “Nyarlathotep 3” takes off with a kind of signals from an imaginary, distant planet. It’s pretty astral-minded while reinforced by great sweeps and new buzzing sound waves. It moves towards a crescendo until reaching an absolute climax while the final part sounds pretty oppressive and tormenting, somewhat reminding to the early work of Lustmord.

+ + + : The realization of this work is absolutely amazing and rather unique. This is the kind of concept that wouldn’t have been possible without an artist taking the responsibility to create an interaction between all contributors. Simon Heath has been probably the one that made this enormous project come true. You don’t really have the impression of listening to a mishmash created by numerous artists. The work is pretty compact and homogenous featuring a great 1^st and 3^rd disc.

– – – : The release stands for more than 3 hours of sound and music so you really have to take your time listening to this work in the right circumstances. I wanted to discover the work without interruption, which took me several takes.

Conclusion: “Nyarlathotep” is a great conceptual release based upon an original idea, but it also reveals the ‘family’ approach of Cryo Chamber to unite all bands under the same wings.

Metatron Omega – Sanctum (Digital Album – Cryo Chamber)

Background/Info: Last year I discovered this Serbian solo-project driven by ‘Scorpio V’ through the debut album “Gnosis Dei”. It remains a brilliant piece of sonic darkness joining ambient- and ritual music. The work of this band is rather conceptual and driven by different esoteric themes from different cultures. “Sanctum” features 6 new cuts by this Prince of Darkness.

Content: The new work moves on where “Gnosis Dei” left off. We get similar influences, which are once again mixing pure dark-ambient passages with an overwhelming ritual approach. Mysterious, religious chants emerge from the depths like an invitation to join a tenebrous universe.

Oppressive buzzing sound waves merge with echoing noises plus deep resonating drones will immediately catch your attention. The impressive chants of invisible monks create this typical ritual sensation, which is also reinforced by some typical elements like gongs.

+ + + : “Sanctum” is a new masterpiece by Metatron Omega who definitely appears to be one of the new ‘coldest’ sensations in the genre. The compositions have been meticulously and patiently built up often reaching a truly sound apotheosis getting you in an imaginary transcendental state. Scorpio V used a great sonic arsenal of noises and samplings (and probably field recordings). The ritual aspect of the work is absolutely phenomenal. The religious choirs have been used in a real freaky way.

– – – : I can’t say that the first tracks are a bit hesitant, but you have to be patient to really feel the impact of this work. I didn’t get a similar effect of surprise as on the debut-work although it remains a brilliant opus.

Conclusion: Metatron Omega sounds like the imaginary guardian operating at the gate between life and after-life. And it rapidly appears that the mortals will not enter into heaven, but get deviated towards a secret and obscure ritual altar.

Best songs: “The Eastern Star”, “In search Of Lost Wisdom”, ”Trinitas”.

A 190 minute dark soundscape album recorded by 25 ambient artists to pay tribute to H.P. Lovecraft. That is in short what you can expect on the “Nyarlathotep” album which is going to be released September 27, 2016 as a 3CD album set (housed in an 8 panel full color digipak) and a high quality download via Cryo Chamber. Cryo Chamber reveals the followup to ‘Cthulhu and Azathoth’: ‘Nyarlathotep’ – list of dark ambient artists revealed!

In 2014 Cryo Chamber got some of the most prominent dark ambient artists together to synchronize their studios during a year of collaboration creating the album “Cthulhu” in tribute to H.P. Lovecraft. It was followed up by the “Azathoth” collaboration album in 2015.

Following “Cthulhu and Azathoth”, Cryo Chamber now announces “Nyarlathotep”. This time 25 artists (!!!) synchronized their studios to create this tribute to H.P. Lovecraft. The album comes as a 3CD set and will soon be available for ordering via Cryo Chamber’s Bandcamp page.

The album will be officially out September 27, 2016. And to wet the appetite (and we’re pretty sure that serious dark ambient fans will be craving for this release) here’s already the list of bands which collaborated on the upcoming release:

The Serbia based act Metatron Omega returns with his second album on Cryo Chamber. You can expect dark gothic choirs, ritual drone and archaic atmospheres. In short an esoteric dark ambient album which should please fans of the more experimental side of Delerium, and related.

Next to a download release, the album also sees a release as a CD in a 6 panel full color digipak and you can order it now via Bandcamp or below. Note that the album features splendid artwork by Scorpio V & Simon Heath helped by a cover photo by Peter Van Der Velde.

Metatron Omega – Gnosis Dei (Digital Album – Cryo Chamber)

Content: Metatron Omega is a new discovery by Cryo Chamber and the least I can say is that this Serbian solo-project set up by Scorpio V is one of the new dark-ambient names you’ll keep in mind.

Metatron Omega claims to be inspired by ‘ ancient mystery schools, esoteric Western tradition, Kabbalah, Gnosticism, esoteric Christianity, secret societies and all mysteries of the Divine’.

So there’s a lot to say and more especially to transpose into music. “Gnosis Dei” features 7 cuts, which remains a magic number when dealing with esoteric subjects so I guess it’s not a coincidence. The work will absolutely move you because the sound waves and ritual-minded passages are too heavy and poignant. It all feels like Metatron Omega is driven by evil forces unleashing their bewitching sound vibes the poor mortals can only, but adhere. Scorpio V reveals himself as the newest Prince of darkness and one of the most talented disciples of Peter Andersson (Raison d’Être).

I don’t want to compare Metatron Omega with the work of Raison d’Être, but there are some similarities in the sound obscurity and ritual aspect of the work. There’s no real innovation, but simply a genius exposure of how dark-ambient music has to sound-like.

There also is a great progression in the writing, which is perfectly illustrated at the opening cut “Apotheosis”, which will hold you in its grip for more than 7 minutes. The final part builds to a climax with a kind of 3D piano part.

“Godhead Emanation” moves on where the previous track stopped and is animated by heavy bells, which are like announcing an obscure requiem. We’re entering throughout a secret universe called ‘hell’, but the final part reveals a kind of prosperity. This is just a short relief as the upcoming tracks bring us back into the darkest and most anguishing corners of our own imagination. “Gnosis Dei” has this secret power to create a dark, imaginary world by the simply strength of music. That’s what ‘ambient’ is all about and which is often lost by a lot of so-called ‘ambient’ formations.

You get the impression of hearing awakened ghosts talking to you and that’s precisely why I linked this band to Raison d’Être. Just pay attention to the outstanding “Ordo Draconis” and “Hierosgamos” to seize the ritual dimension this work has been with. Dark noises, spoken spirit-like words, bells and icy progressive sound waves are literally exposing the listener to an invisible, disturbing presence.

The few tracks left renew the obscure passages and ritual parts. The sound creation remains colored by the darkest imaginable vibes and reinforced by mysterious chants resulting in a truly esoteric climax.

Conclusion: “Gnosis Dei” appears to be a quest to create one of the most captivating, but still tormenting dark-ambient and ritual compositions in the genre. This is one of the most brilliant pieces in the genre in quite a long time ago.
