Mari Kattman – Year Of The Katt (Digital/CD Album – Metropolis)

We know Mari Kattman primarily for her numerous vocal performances, as well as for her involvement in projects like Helix (withTom Shear), The Joy Thieves, and Mari & The Ghost. She has also released several solo albums and now returns in that capacity with her first release on Metropolis Records. This new opus was written and produced entirely by Mari herself. It apparently took a considerable amount of time to complete, but the result is impressive.
Mari Kattman is, first and foremost, a voice—at times sensual and fragile, at others powerful and full of passion. But now there is also her music, which charts a course somewhere between EBM and Electro-Pop. Some tracks evoke the raw energy of And One, while others feature infectious choruses that captivate the listener. The lyrics range from witty to deeply personal, adding an intimate and emotional layer to the work.
Not every track is equally convincing, but the standouts are well worth your attention. This is more than just a commendable effort—it’s a strong and even defining album, one that lays a solid foundation for Mari Kattman to build on in the future. (Rating:8).

I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.
Since you’re here …
… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.
If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
The donations are safely powered by Paypal.
