Former Stump bassist and co-founder Kev Hopper has released his new album “XiX” today, 22 August 2025, via Dimple Discs. The record blends Euclidean rhythm structures with crisp electronic detail and short, melodic motifs. Hopper describes it as “wonky, wobbly, electronic, surrealist pop.”

“XiX” is available as digital today, with black-vinyl LP and CD editions scheduled for 24 October 2025 on Dimple Discs. The album itself was recorded and produced in Whitstable and London.

About Kev Hopper

Kev Hopper (born 1961) is an English bassist and composer best known for Stump, the Anglo-Irish experimental group formed in London in 1983 with Mick Lynch (vocals), Rob McKahey (drums), Chris Salmon (guitar), and Hopper (bass).

Stump issued early releases on Ron Johnson before signing to Ensign for “A Fierce Pancake” (1988). The group split later that year.

Hopper’s solo work began with “Stolen Jewels” (1990, Ghetto). Through the 1990s–2000s he released albums on labels including Drag City/Duophonic and Afterhours, moving between experimental electronica and melodic, bass-forward pop.

He also co-founded the laptop-based electronica group Ticklish (late 1990s–mid-2000s) and later formed Prescott (2010s). Recent solo titles include “Sans Noodles” (2022) and “XiX” (2025), both on Dimple Discs. Hopper is also a visual artist and runs the HopperArts YouTube channel.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
