Ext!ze – Dolorean 666 (Digital/CD Album – darkTunes Music Group)

I’d heard some wild things from the German-French band Ext!ze before, but with this new album they’ve taken it a step further. Driven by ‘Cyb3rella’ (real name Raphaël Beck)—who also happens to be the owner of darkTunes Music—this opus is a personal reimagining of music genres spanning the centuries, but especially the 20th Century.
From Medieval and Classical to Viking chants, Rock ’n’ Roll, Disco, French Chanson, Swing, Punk, New-Wave, Metal, Techno, and more, the album delivers no fewer than 16 tracks. It’s an original and daring experiment, particularly infectious when it comes to the ‘older’ genres. Everything remains instantly recognizable yet consistently infused with Ext!ze’s signature dark Electro/Cyber-Techno style. The results are surprising and often hilarious—one moment you think you’re hearing Bach, Elvis Presley, Édith Piaf, or even The Ramones, and the next you’re plunged head-first into Ext!ze’s neon-lit cyber-bath.
Many of the singles released beforehand hinted at what was coming. While not everything lands perfectly, it’s a bold undertaking—and who else but Ext!ze would dare? (Rating:7).

I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.
Since you’re here …
… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.
If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
The donations are safely powered by Paypal.
