This work is a collaboration between Peter Verwimp (Ashtoreth) and Timo Jacobs (Forestaal). For Ashtoreth, it is yet another collaboration, but it also offers listeners the opportunity to discover the lesser-known project Forestaal. This Belgian partnership resulted in two extended tracks.

The opening track is a true gem, captivating the listener for more than seventeen minutes. The atmosphere is deeply dark and heavily infused with Ritual elements. The rather heavy percussion reinforces this ritualistic impression even further. The guitar work introduces an Eastern-tinged flavor that rises to the surface and perfectly complements the overall aesthetic of the piece. Mysterious voices drift through the background, adding another layer of intrigue. All the elements come together seamlessly, making this an outstanding track. The second piece, which is the title track, leans more toward the Experimental side. While the atmosphere remains mysterious and at times fascinating, the composition feels less cohesive as a whole.

Ultimately, Vein is most memorable for its impressive opening track; somewhat paradoxically, the second piece leaves a less convincing overall impression. (Rating:8).

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
