One of the legendary Japanese electro acts from the same era as YMO, Plastics, etc. in the 80's Japanese Post-Techno Pop music scene has returned: 4-D Mode1. On February 21st 2008, a brand new full album "Rekonnekted" is released via Bridge and A Different Drum containing 13 tracks spread over 50 minutes. The release comes with a folded special designed polygon sleeve case with artwork by Gaku Amatsu. You can check out a preview of the release on the band's MySpace site at www.myspace.com/4dmode1 and at www.4dmode1.jp (Japanese only).
Based in the Kansai region in Japan the band was founded in 1982 by Kenji Konishi (vox, electronics), Tadahiko Yokogawa (vox, violin, bass, electronics), Shinobu Narita (vox, guitar, electronics) and Kazuya Nakagaki. They were among the first in Japan to release their material on 7" free flex disks that were spread not only to record shops, but also to clubs, stationery shops, art galleries, New Wave boutiques, and many other places in Japan. Their first self-produced material, "After Dinner Party" was released in 1983 through their own label, Ph Records. A total of 7 give-away style discs were released with a pressing of 1000 each, released once every 3 months.
In 1985 the band released their final 12" album, "A Style Of Building", via Telegraph Records after which each member went their own way. Finally in 2006 4-D Mode1 released a digitally-remastered compilation of all of their material, "Die Rekonstruktion", including some of their side projects via Bridge,. The release was followed by a few live shows.
