Genre/Influences: Dark-cinematographic, experimental, drone.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: Uhushuhu is a Russian solo-project driven by Pavel Dombrowski. A few productions and split-releases have been already released by different labels. “Bones & Drones” appears to be the first official CD-format release by this project.

Content: “Bones & Drones” features a single composition from 45 minutes. Composed with numerous field recordings, which clearly sound related to elements of nature, and achieved with dark sonic treatments plus minimal percussion effects and drones, this album takes us away through a sonic labyrinth. The addition of authentic instruments are also present, I recognized the sound of flutes injecting an authentic touch to the work.

+ + + : Uhushuhu sounds like an invitation to enter a mysterious sonic universe tickling the listeners’ visual capacities. The tracks have been progressively built up, featuring numerous little details. You’d better listen to this work using headphones or simply relaxing in a lazy chair while focusing on the music. You’ll catch the cinematographic strength of the work, which also reveals a few ritual passages. I also have to say a word about the great artistic digipak.

– – – : It’s an easy-listening work although featuring a few monotonous passages.

Conclusion: “Bones & Drones” is something of a dark sonic voyage through the unknown.

Best songs: “Bones & Drones”.

Inferno Sound Diaries
I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
