Irish darkwave trio Tiny Magnetic Pets will release their new EP, “Harmonious Grey”, tomorrow on May 23, 2025. The release precedes their forthcoming Gareth Jones-produced fourth studio album and marks their first new material since 2021’s “Blue Wave”.

Issued on CD, digital download, and streaming, “Harmonious Grey” shows darker and more introspective sonic textures. The EP is led by the track “Low Places”, which features a minimal structure built around sub-bass, drums, and restrained melodic elements. According to the band, the track deals with feelings of betrayal and disillusionment. “It’s about people that you thought were your friends, or who were supposed to be on your side,” says Seán Quinn. “That is, until you needed their help.”

“Magnets & Ghosts” introduces ambient tones, while “Autopilot” offers heavy bass and industrial rhythms. And of course there is the title track, “Harmonious Grey”.

The band recently performed live with Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark and got remixed by Vince Clarke for the track “Automation”.

About Tiny Magnetic Pets

Tiny Magnetic Pets was formed in Dublin, Ireland in 2014 by Paula Gilmer (vocals/synths), Seán Quinn (synths/guitar), and Eugene Somers (drums). The band was founded with the aim of merging classic synthpop structures with contemporary electronic textures.

The trio released their debut album “Return of the Tiny Magnetic Pets” in 2015, followed by “Deluxe/Debris” in 2017. Their third album, “Blue Wave”, was released in 2021 and included themes shaped by the COVID-19 lockdowns.

Tiny Magnetic Pets have also collaborated with artists including Wolfgang Flür (ex-Kraftwerk).

Their upcoming fourth album, produced by Gareth Jones, is expected in late 2025.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
