“My Son of The Moon” is the latest single from Belgian IDM artist Kilmarth, paving the way for an upcoming album by Cedric Wattergniaux. This EP combines dark, introspective soundscapes with influences from IDM, trip-hop, and ambient genres, creating a hauntingly immersive experience.

The single’s artwork was designed by Stéphane Froidcoeur, also known as NW-Art Brut. Wattergniaux shares his admiration: “I was especially drawn to Froidcoeur’s raw artistic style; his creations are an absolute must-see.” The track also showcases vocals by Mad Mac, a collaboration Wattergniaux envisions as the start of an ongoing partnership. Rounding out the single is a remix by Signalstoerung, a project from the Adventurous Music collective.

Kilmarth, the avant-garde musical project of Cedric Wattergniaux, has announced the release of a new single, “Vergessen”. This experimental glitch track features the vocals of Jack Kolajka. The single’s main track is backed by “ToExposeTheTruth”, a jazz-infused composition.

Cedric says that the inspiration behind “Vergessen” stems from “my personal journey through the challenging battle against Parkinson’s disease, which claimed the life of my beloved father in April of last year.” Cédric Wattergniaux used to write for Side-Line and is known to the rest of our team as a passionate music lover with an eclectic choice. Throughout the years he started composing music on his own and this way he set up Kilmarth. A first self-released single “The End of Humanity” came out in 2017, and since then the IDM / electronica project has gradualy matured with a full EP, “Catharsis”, following in 2018.

The Belgian IDM project Kilmarth has finally released a first full album, “Sociological Veranda”. The release comes after releasing a string of singles and EPs over the past 7 years. Musically you will notice that the project has been steadily maturing and refining its sound.

“Sociological Veranda” holds a mix of dark electro tones (check “Fordism and Other Delicacies” for instance), cold atmospheres and even drum and bass elements (“Splintery Fear”). The original IDM elements stay omnipresent though. There is also a very exotic element on “The Dark Samba Complex”, the title says it all.

Personally I was more than charmed by the opening track “Lurking” featuring SIlly Shadow, reminding me of the finest moments of Mnemonic. Other guest singers include Jacky Kolajka on “Vergessen”, Blessing Daniel on “Better Days”, and Echo on “Les Horloges Dérobées”, each being meticulously chosen I must say.

Behind Kilmarth we find Cedric Wattergniaux, a former collaborator with Side-Line magazine. The influences he was baptised with during his decade-long work with us surely was enough inspiration to venture into self producing music. The album is dedicated to Cedric’s father who sadly died a few months ago.

Background/Info: Third work by Belgian Cedric Wattergniaux. He, in a previous life, was a Side-Line contributor who finally transposed his passion for music into composing his own sound universe.

Content: “Better Days” sounds like an exploration of new sonic paths for Kilmarth. The work is still featuring IDM and Experimental influences but it also reveals an explicit cinematic approach while for the very first time we get vocals by guest singer ‘Blessing’. The title song features 2 remixes by D-Fried.

+ + + : Kilmarth moves on composing Electronic collages. I still like the IDM touch emerging at “Khtara” but also the kind of oboe sound running through this work. The sensation of a real instrument also comes back in the ultra-Cinematic “The Philosophy Of Hope And Fear”. Last but not least I also want to say a word about the title song featuring cool, female vocals. I personally prefer both remixes by D-Fried for their accentuated down-tempo approach.

– – – : I think it’s always a pity when remixes are more convincing than the original edit -although the original cut is worthy of examination.

Conclusion: Kilmarth is one of the very few Belgian artists I know which might appeal to fans of labels like Ant-Zen, M-Tronic and related labels.

The Belgian dark idm ambient project Kilmarth has released an all new 5-track strong mini-album, “Better Days¨. Behind Kilmarth we find the Belgian musician Cedric Wattergniaux.

Small but important detail, Cedric used to write for Side-Line and with his project he is the 5th (ex)member of the Side-Line team who has released music next to Ronan Harris (VNV Nation), Benoit Blanchart (Aiboforcen), Seba Dolimont (Aiboforcen) and Stephane Froidcoeur (Nebula-H).

Cedric’s work is the kind of work you would link to productions released on labels such as Ad Noiseam, Tympanik Audio, Ant-Zen, Mindtrick Records and M-Tronic. Wattergniaux, who has been active in the dark music scene since the early 90’s, first as writer for various fanzines including our very own Side-Line magazine up until a few years ago, and now with Kilmarth, the project he debuted in July 2017 with the 3-track single “The End of Humanity”.

On his newest EP, out now on all digital platforms, we find (female) vocals for the very first time by the the Nigerian singer Blessing. Also included are two remixes from the IDM project, D-Fried.

Background/Info: “Derrière Le Miroir” (translated “Behind The Mirror”) is the second EP by the Belgian solo-project, Kilmarth. Three years after the debut-EP “Catharsis” former Side-Line contributor Cedric Wattergniaux strikes back with stuff.

Content: The songs mix different influences although an explicit Experimental approach mixed with elements of IDM is clearly noticeable. From passages featuring monstrous sound treatments, brutal arrangements and broken rhythms to more delicate sound treatments and explicit Cinematographic spheres, this work sounds versatile and eclectic.

The EP features 4 songs plus 2 remixes. The first one is a remix of the single “A White Willow” (released in between both EP’s) by French artist Zumaia and the other one is a remix of the opening song “Mirrors” by Aiboforcen.

+ + + : There clearly is an interesting evolution in sound and global production from the debut-EP towards “Derrière Le Miroir”. The opening song “Mirrors” reveals the progression of Kilmarth while “The White Willow – Reflected Version” shows the delicate approach of the sound treatments mixed with Cinematographic influences. “Mirrors” also features some guitar play by the artist’s young son, which is for sure something emotive. The remix of Aiboforcen is a cool bonus as the final song.

– – – : The sonic chaos running through “Prisme” is less accessible and a bit disjointed. I also expected a bit more from the Aiboforcen remix.

Conclusion: This is the kind of project appealing for lovers of the defunct AD Noiseam.

The dark ambient / idm project Kilmarth has just published the video for “M-Fia41”. The project enlisted the Bulgarian video artist Daniel H. to create this urban abstract video. The Belgian project is also announcing the release of a very limited audio cassette for the next few months. It will be a special edition of the last EP “Derrière le miroir”

Out now is the newest EP from the Belgian IDM/exprimental act Kilmarth. Titled “Derrière le Miroir” it contains 3 new tracks as well as remixes of the band, the French experimental project Zumaia and the Belgian compatriots of Aiboforcen.
