Myselfson – Resistance (Digital/CD Album – Foundry Records)

The French band Myselfson emerged several years ago and released their debut album back in 2018. It has taken some time for its successor to arrive, but the new release now offers twelve tracks to dive into.
After a piano-driven, Cinematic opener, the album reveals its true nature. Myselfson draws inspiration from the broad spectrum of Electro-Pop, often crafting a floating, atmospheric sound that frequently leans into a Cinematic expression. At times, the music drifts a bit too far into dreaminess for my taste, which is why I gravitate more toward the sparse, darker moments—where a guitar even makes an appearance. Occasionally, there are slight traces reminiscent of Erasure, though I wouldn’t push that comparison too far. The vocal production, however, could benefit from a more polished, professional approach, especially considering the genre’s Pop foundations.
Overall, I feel the band has more potential than what is fully realized here. For me, their darker and more dynamic side is the most compelling aspect of their sound, but it unfortunately doesn’t receive the attention it deserves. (Rating:6½).

I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.
Since you’re here …
… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.
If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
