Dancing Ferret Announces compilation to support Anti-Nazi The White Rose charity
Philadelphia-based label Dancing Ferret Discs has announced the release of a benefit music compilation in support of The White Rose, a historic anti-Nazi organization originally formed during World War II. The album is expected to arrive in the fourth quarter of 2025, with 100% of profits pledged to the charity.
The White Rose began as a non-violent German resistance movement, founded by students including Hans and Sophie Scholl. Most of its members were executed by the Nazi regime in 1943. Today, the organization continues as an educational foundation preserving the group’s legacy and warning against extremist ideologies.
The as-yet untitled compilation will be focussed on Neue Deutsche Welle (NDW), a German genre combining synthpop, punk, and electronic elements. Artists participating will contribute exclusive covers of their favorite NDW tracks. Confirmed acts include Lord of The Lost, The Dead Milkmen, Leæther Strip, Vision Video, Das Ich, Solar Fake, and early NDW pioneers Fehlfarben, who will cover a song by Der Plan.
“It’s truly an honor to support the educational outreach of The White Rose,” said Patrick Rodgers, executive producer. “Hans Scholl is my personal hero and visiting White Rose landmarks in Munich, including his grave, was one of the most powerful experiences of my life.”
Rodgers added that the label has already donated $1,000 in advance and that more bands are welcome to join the project. “Beyond supporting the group financially and raising awareness of their history,” he explained, “I think that a story about people of conscience who struggled against an unjust regime is something that will feel timely to many folks around the world.”
Bands interested in contributing to the project are invited to contact Dancing Ferret through their official website.
Background on The White Rose
The White Rose (Die Weiße Rose) formed as a non-violent resistance group in Nazi Germany in 1942. It remained active from June 1942 until the Gestapo dismantled it in February 1943. At first, students from the University of Munich—Hans and Sophie Scholl among them—led the initiative. They worked alongside professor Kurt Huber and several other committed members. Together, they aimed to expose Nazi crimes and awaken public opposition to Hitler’s regime.
Despite growing risks, the group wrote, printed, and distributed leaflets against the Nazi government. These leaflets directly condemned Nazi policies and the ongoing Holocaust atrocities. To reach people, they placed them in public areas and mailed copies to scholars. They explicitly called on Germans to resist passively and act with moral courage.
In February 1943, Huber authored the group’s sixth and final leaflet. Shortly afterward, the Gestapo arrested several core members, including the Scholls and Christoph Probst. On February 22, 1943, Nazi authorities executed all three by guillotine. In the months that followed, they executed additional White Rose members as well.
Nevertheless, The White Rose became a lasting symbol of internal German resistance. To this day, books, films, and memorials across Germany honor their courage and sacrifice.
