Scotland’s electronic/post-punk group Fini Tribe will release “The Sheer Action of Fini Tribe: 1982–1987” on October 10, 2025 via Shipwrecked Industries. The anthology focuses on the six-piece era and includes the band’s 1985 BBC John Peel session, early 12″ singles (including “De Testimony”) and Wax Trax! singles, plus unreleased live recordings, newly remastered by the members. The lead single “I Want More” arrives on August 13 with an official video but is now debuting on Side-Line.
The set will be available as a 3-CD digipak with 24-page booklet, as a gatefold vinyl LP with insert, and digitally via Bandcamp. The CDs are sequenced as: Disc 1 (Singles & compilation tracks), Disc 2 (Sessions & demos), Disc 3 (Live +). The anthology includes the first John Peel Session (recorded May 12, 1985; first broadcast May 22, 1985), produced by Dale Griffin. The digital versions can be pre-saved here.
Package curation and design were handled by the band and include archival photographs, an essay by original member Andy McGregor (who designed the sleeve), and texts by Shirley Manson (Garbage) and author Alastair McKay.
“I Want More” – a cover of the Can track first issued by Fini Tribe on Wax Trax! in 1987 – returns as the compilation’s lead single.“This compilation was a long time in the making… showcasing our most productive years as a six-piece,” said Chris Connelly, adding that “I Want More” was a Can favorite for the band even before its inception.
About Fini Tribe
Fini Tribe formed in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1984 with Chris Connelly, John Vick, Andy McGregor, Philip Pinsky, David Miller and Simon McGlynn. Early releases include the EP “Curling and Stretching” on the Finiflex label (1984) and a BBC John Peel session the following year.
By 1986, the group had pivoted from post-punk to electronics with the “Let The Tribe Grow” EP on Cathexis, featuring “De Testimony”, later considered a key cut of the mid-’80s dance/alternative crossover. In 1987, they signed to Wax Trax! Records for “I Want More” (Can cover) and “Make It Internal (Detestimony Revisited)”. Connelly departed in 1988 after UK touring, later joining Revolting Cocks and Ministry.
The 1990s catalog spans “Noise, Lust & Fun”, “Grossing 10K”, “An Unexpected Groovy Treat”, “Sheigra”, and “Sleazy Listening”, with releases through Finiflex, One Little Indian, FFRR and Infectious. In 2014, “De Testimony” was reissued on 12″. Note that the band did three John Peel sessions between 1985 and 1998.

Since you’re here …
… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast.
