Darkness On Demand (DoD) is a German dark electro and industrial project formed in 2017 by three members of the iconic band Dance or Die – Gary Wagner, Falgalas (Heiko Duus), and Chris L. Although Chris L. left in 2018 and was replaced by Seba, the band retained its commitment to blending old-school electro with contemporary dark electronic sounds.

DoD’s music merges elements of EBM, industrial, and futuristic themes, often reflecting dystopian and apocalyptic visions. Raymond Watts, better known as PIG, has released a fully remastered version of his iconic 1995 album, “Sinsation“. Out via Metropolis Records (CD, digital) and Armalyte Industries (deluxe 2xLP vinyl), this reissue arrives nearly three decades after the original, just in time to coincide with Watts’ forthcoming North American tour.

“Sinsation” originally hit the scene on Nothing Records, the label spearheaded by Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor. The album emerged shortly after PIG opened for NIN, and as a result PIG found himself labelmates of acts such as Marilyn Manson, Autechre, and Einstürzende Neubauten.

Watts says this about the actual album: “Every record I make is PIG through a different noose, and when I made ‘Sinsation’ the noose hung high. It was born at Ranch Apocalypse in London, a place where creation and cremation coexisted. I was locked inside both the studio and myself, with only [guitarist] Steve White and a large box of drugs for company. ‘Sinsation’ was the sound of the last card turning and burning. The only way out was through. I had to give birth to the noise inside my head and record it.”

The remastering process was an emotional experience for Watts: “I was surprised and saddened to revisit ‘Sinsation’. Surprised by the energy and invention and saddened to hear the pain. But, I was strangely glad to have visited hell, and blessed that I didn’t stay.”

The original ‘Sinsation’ was a collaborative effort, recorded and mixed by PIG and Helen Woodward, featuring contributions from Karl Hyde (Underworld), Jimmy Cauty (The KLF), Steve White (KMFDM), Carol Anne Reynolds (Sow), and Japanese artists Imai Hisashi (Buck Tick) and Hoppy Kamiyama.

London-based musician and composer Ian Williams has released his latest work, “Le Mystère Lucie (Dossier Secret)”, today, July 25. You can download it from Bandcamp.

This album serves as a companion piece to the soundtrack for the 2023 French documentary “Le Mystère Lucie (Des Espions Contre Le Nazisme)” / “Codename Lucy (Spies Against Nazism)”.

“Le Mystère Lucie (Dossier Secret)” features compositions originally intended for the documentary but not included in the final 52-minute TV broadcast, which was initially conceived as a 75-minute film.

The documentary, directed by Éric Michel and Jacques Matthey, explores the pivotal role of a Swiss-based spy network in the Allied victory during World War II. A spy network led by the Swiss-based Jewish communist Sándor Radó was instrumental in precipitating the victory of the Allies during the Second World War.

Radó received confidential strategic information from the highest levels of the Nazi state and in particular from the HQ of the German army via Rudolf Roessler, a deeply anti-Nazi Christian who he never actually met. Roessler, codenamed Lucie because he was based in Lucerne, received his information from German supporters of the resistance, aided by notable members of certain industrial circles.

About Ian Williams

Ian Williams began his music career in Edinburgh in the mid-1980s as a founder of Beautiful Pea Green Boat. He later collaborated with Lebanese choreographer Joumana Mourad and her contemporary dance company Ijad, blending Arabic, classical, techno, and ambient styles. Williams has also worked with singer Claudia Barton in the duo Gamine, producing two albums of dark, piano-led torch songs and lullabies.

His solo releases include:

• “The Dream Extortionists” (2019): A debut album of dark piano and electronics.
• “Les Blessures Invisibles” (2019): An eclectic electronic soundtrack for another documentary by Eric Michel.

The Atlanta-based witch house, synth punk act Suffer Ring have a new album out, “Book of Miracles” via Re:Mission Entertainment.

Behind Suffer Ring we find the producers Kyle McCanna (Dead Fe†us) and Corey Davenport (Cairn Elan). “Book of Miracles” is the 4th full-length album for the band following 2021’s “Hauntology”, 2020’s “Reverentia” and 2018’s “Wishing Well”.

Swedish post-punk outfit Then Comes Silence has kicked off a string of European tour dates in support of their seventh album “Trickery” (out now via Metropolis Records), also presenting “Ghost House” featuring tandem vocals by Emma Nylen (Emmon). You can check the track below.

Formed in Stockholm in 2012, Then Comes Silence is made up of frontman Alex Svenson, drummer Jonas Fransson and guitarist Hugo Zombie (Los Carniceros del Norte). “Les Couleurs D’Une Fièvre” is the debut album by the French Flagorne-duo. The album -which is available in a very artistic digipak,  features 5 hard cuts mixing Industrial elements and Dark-Ambient moods. Premiering on Side-Line today is the brand new video, “Eve”, from the Los Angeles-based industrial rock band Fleischkrieg. The song was produced, mixed, and mastered by Logan Mader (Machine Head, Once Human).

This is what the band says about the track: “The song “Eve” is based on the Gnostic tradition of Adam’s wife being the hero in the Genesis creation myth – rather than the villain. This 2nd century Christian sect revered Eve as an early incarnation of the Divine Feminine, and if it weren’t for her courage to commit “original sin” – we’d still be trapped in a genetics lab known as the Garden of Eden.

The song is sung from Adam’s point of view where he praises Eve for delivering them from the tyranny of the Elohim. Though they are “thrown out the gilded cage”, Adam asks Eve to “make the thorns our home”, a poetic nod to human resilience in the face of catastrophe.”

Italian scholar Mauro Biglino and his research on the Biblical Apocrypha inspired the song’s themes and lyrical content. Mauro briefly translated for the Vatican – but was eventually fired when his published works revealed modern Christian theology was incompatible with the written texts of ancient Hebrew authors.

Swedish Dark-Ambient master Johan Levin originally self-released this ‘new’ album in 2021. Cyclic Law has now immortalized this masterpiece on CD and vinyl. It is an extremely dark experience where field recordings and deep, vibrating sound waves are mixed. Acylum has been around for 20 years. The German duo hits back with the new album “Zuchthaus”, which sounds extremely dark and tormented. This is pure Dark-Electro music straight from hell. Provocative samplings, ice-cold melodies, Industrial rhythms and distorted vocals lead the listener into an apocalyptic experience. Industrial crossover act NeroArgento, the project of Italian musician Alessio Nero Argento, has just released a brand new single entitled “The Sleepwalker”, the accompanying video can be seen below.

“The Sleepwalker” comes exactly two years after the previous full-length album “Land Of Silence” and features “a completely renewed sound, in which heaviness and electro-influences combine to create apocalyptic utopian scenarios”, so Alessio adds.

In addition to his solo career, NeroArgento has been involved in numerous collaborations and projects. He has worked as a producer, remixer, and musician with various artists, contributing to over 40 records. His tracks have been featured in official gameplay trailers and other multimedia projects. Background/Info: POC is a Swedish duo driven by Mika Rossi (Autodafeh, Endless Shame, Agrezzior ao) and his son Sebastian. “It’s No Fun” features five songs.

Content: POC stands for old-school EBM driven by menacing bass lines, simple, but efficient tunes and a few more elaborated passages with bleeps and extra noises. The vocals are rather simple and easy to keep in mind.

+ + + : This is an interesting and satisfying debut by father and son Rossi. It’s cool to discover an EP featuring 5 different songs. Pay attention for “Tick Tock” and “Work My Body” which according to me both have a true potential for EBM dancefloors. The last mentioned song is also more elaborated although still into old-school EBM.

– – – : I think the vocals could be a bit more passionate and harsher. The lyrics are really simple but that’s not really a point.

Conclusion: This EP smells like more!

Best songs: “Tick Tock”, “Work My Body”, “A Shot Of Jäger”.
