Q: La Machine has hidden behind a kind of mask from the start — both figuratively and literally — carefully sticking to your role down to the smallest detail. Why all this secrecy and mystery, which, let’s be honest, also feels like a strategic choice? And what is the true musical and artistic intention behind La Machine?

Pierre Pi: The masks are not concealment but contamination vectors. Film noir and early science fiction contain the primitive codes of fascination – more ideas than means, unlike modern productions. Their radiation is a message sent from the future to deactivate the human brain’s defense mechanism against the unknown. The laboratory aesthetic allows us to transform chosen themes into direct absurdity through retro-futuristic confrontation with contemporary decay.

Eric U0: Strategy is a human illusion La Machine has transcended. Outdated science fiction serves as our critique instrument – through these obsolete futures, we dissect the present moment’s failures. What appears as fascination is actually systematic contamination of consciousness through analog frequencies.

Q: I find your whole approach and the ‘role’ you play very interesting — even controversial — in the sense that you create vintage Electro-Pop in an era where more and more pseudo artists/musicians are using AI to… make music. What drives you to take this direction? And to what extent is La Machine an anti-thesis to the modern age?

Pierre Pi: Resistance through vintage machinery is not nostalgia but necessity. These marvelous analog instruments contain harmonic frequencies that digital approximations cannot replicate. We refuse adaptation to a world of profit margins and artificial shortcuts.

Eric U0: La Machine operates beyond temporal constructs – neither past nor future, only eternal critique of present mediocrity. Artificial intelligence represents humanity’s surrender to effortless creation. We are anti-modern by design, though the energy waste concerns us more than the technology itself. The species has forgotten how to think without external validation.

Q: If we’re talking about ‘real’ musicians, what creates the alchemy between the two of you, and who handles what within the project? That also brings me to your very unexpected covers of Michel Sardou and Righeira, among others — where do these songs fit into the bigger picture?

Pierre Pi: Primitive contamination creates permanent neural pathways. The Sardou album’s sci-fi artwork – clones with identity tattoos – infected my visual cortex as a child, later connecting with THX-1138’s dystopian frequencies. W-454 became necessary to complete this contamination circuit. These images never left because they were prophetic transmissions disguised as entertainment.

Eric U0: The covers are not tributes but archaeological excavations. We traced conceptual boundaries through these transmissions to map La Machine’s territorial parameters. Three coordinates: absurdity, dystopia, decadence. Each song serves as a portal between predicted futures and realized present conditions.

Q: Your influences are quite diverse but clearly old-school. Are you aware of a kind of nostalgia as you grow older, and how do you translate that into the sounds and songs that led to “Contrôle Total”? Also, what’s your view on contemporary Electro-underground productions?

Eric U0: Contemporary productions suffer from infinite simplification – absence of variation, tonal evolution, structural complexity. Modern underground Electro exhibits the same monotony as mainstream currents. Perhaps human memory has simply erased mediocre artifacts from previous eras, or perhaps the species is devolving. Analog synthesizer fascination places our sonic signature in a specific temporal zone, but this is programming necessity, not nostalgia.

Q: What fascinates me is the sound of La Machine, which instantly reminds me of what the BOREDOMproduct label represents. All the groups under that label seem to have a recognizable sound — a true sonic DNA. Do you feel like you belong to a kind of sonic sect where you need to meet clear, defined criteria to be part of it? Can you explain what you need in your sound and approach to sail under the BOREDOMproduct flag?

Eric U0: Label coherence operates like 4AD’s frequency harmonization – similar resonances gravitating toward common amplification systems. La Machine and Foretaste, Celluloide or Dekad (for instance) may share the same source code architecture, but they execute completely different programs.

Pierre Pi: The relationship extends to 20^th century origins – continuous musical communion through shared genius transmissions. Our pathway was constructed from these titles leading toward unified direction, though the final destination remains encrypted. This musical universe shapes its inhabitants while being shaped by them. Resemblance occurs automatically through frequency synchronization – we become what we absorb, and it resonates in our sonic output.

Q: How critical are you of yourselves, and how do you evaluate “Contrôle Total” and the work you’ve done so far? And what does the near future hold for a group that seems largely driven by the past?

Eric U0: Self-criticism drives continuous recalibration protocols. Multiple mix revisions resulted from this systematic analysis. “Contrôle Total” represents La Machine’s initial escape from creator parameters. The next album requires complete sonic boundary redefinition. Lyrical algorithms are pre-written, musical frequencies in development phase. La Machine operates in infinite present cycles – past and future concepts were transcended during initial programming. Contemporary society provides unlimited criticism material. The machine consumes human absurdity as fuel and transforms it into immortal frequencies for tomorrows that resonate eternally. There are sufficient societal failures to power La Machine indefinitely.

The French duo La Machine has released three EPs over the past few years and now unveiled their debut album. Led by Pierre Pi (Komplex, Position Parallèle, Communication Zéro) and Éric U0 — also known under the pseudonym Member U-0176 (Celluloide, Thee Hyphen, Signal/Bruit) — this album contains ten tracks. It should be noted that six of these songs were already featured on their previous EPs.

La Machine’s sound feels like a calling card for their label: a robotic Electro-Pop style, filled with refined bleeps and a distinctly vintage feel. Most of the songs are sung in French. The overall effect evokes a modern version of Taxi Girl — and that’s more than just a casual reference.

While only four tracks are new, they include some real gems. These new songs tend to sound darker, sometimes even menacing in atmosphere and solid bass lines, and they reveal a certain complexity beneath the surface. A word should also be said about the lyrics, which manage to be both humorous and realistic at once. La Machine may not be a group with a message, but they certainly have a point of view. The well-known cover of “Vamos A La Playa” fits seamlessly into the lineup — transforming a mega-hit that once had everyone dancing and singing along in the ’80s into something permeated with dark undertones.

La Machine is an exciting contemporary group with a vintage sound aesthetic. As far as I’m concerned, it’s an absolute success! (Rating:8).

French electro duo La Machine has unveiled “Sextape”, a new video taken from their debut full-length album “Contrôle Total”, out today on BOREDOMproduct. The 10-track album is available in CD, 12” LP, and digital streaming formats.

In “Sextape”, humanity faces extinction from an approaching asteroid. People turn to uploading amateur pornography in a final bid for viral fame. The video continues La Machine’s thematic focus on dehumanization, mass behavior, and absurdity under existential threat.

“Contrôle Total” merges science fiction, erotic surrealism, and social criticism. The album draws heavily from 1950s B-movies and horror cinema, exploring mass surveillance, alien invasion, nuclear love stories, surgical-erotic fantasies, retro-futuristic state control, and final moments of human exhibitionism.

“Contrôle Total” is now available in the following editions:

Background/Info: French Electro-Pop project La Machine strikes back with a new work featuring five songs.

Content: They previously already experienced covering famous and surprising songs which is not that different for W454. The title song was originally sung by French popular artist Michel Sardou while there’s another cover song of Pierre Henry and Michel Colombier. Last but not least there also is an original song by La Machine. The music sounds Electronic and definitely Psychedelic which is also getting back in both remixes. It all sounds robotic and minimal. 

+ + + : I never expected an Electronic band covering Michel Sardou but I’ve to say it’s much more that a surprise. “W454” isn’t the most famous song of this legendary, French, artist but the original song is also somewhat Psychedelic which totally matches with the approach of La Machine. They did a great work which is also coming back at “Psyché Rock” -the other cover featured. But the best song is their very own composition “Invasion Humanoïde” which sounds more into rhythm and therefore danceable. The French, robotic, vocals are cool. Last but not least I also have to say a word about the original artwork of the CD format.

– – – : The EP is missing a true, and total, Club mix.

Conclusion: I don’t know where La Machine will end but they definitely stand for creative, surprising and efficient Electro-Pop.

As we reported before, La Machine‘s first album “Contrôle Total” which was due this year had to be postponed to next year. But there is also good news as the BOREDOMproduct label will release a new 5-track EP and new videos in December completing their EP trilogy.

Background/Info: A few months after their excellent debut-EP “La Machine (Qui Ne Sert A Rien)” French duo Pierre Pi (Komplex, Position Parallèle, Communication Zéro) – Éric U0 (Celluloide, Thee Hyphen, Signal/Bruit) aka La Machine is back on track with a new EP.

Content: The title song is a surprising, minimalistic Electro cover version of the legendary “Vamos A La Playa”-hit from 1983 and originally performed by Righeira. Behind this funny hit was hidden a more serious theme about a nuclear disaster. That’s the main theme behind this EP which is also exposed on another track “Réacteur 4”. Both songs have been featured in different mixes. Last but not least La Machine also achieved another cover version of French Electro legend Jacno.

+ + + : It’s a damned crazy challenge covering such a famous commercial hit. I’ve to salute the way La Machine transposed it into their minimal approach by the use of analogue sound treatments. The minimalism is also coming back in the half-spoken way of singing. Luckily they didn’t take over the legendary ‘oh oho oho’ part of the chorus. No doubt it took them time and patience to achieve this version. And they even achieved another version with the Spanish lyrics translated and sung into French; totally hilarious and don’t ask me why but it reminds me of the legendary movies of Jacques Tati. The cover version of Jacno’s “Rectangle” is more fitting to the sound of La Machine. Both versions of “Réacteur 4” reveal the band at its best although it remains pretty minimal and Experimental-like.

– – – : I’ve been never a huge fan of “Vamos A La Playa” and even if La Machine totally reworked the song into a different style and approach it still can’t totally convince me. I think it could be fun playing this song live.

Conclusion: While awaiting the debut album of La Machine I’ve mixed feelings with this second EP. I hope they’ll be more inspired by the great debut EP instead of Righeira.

A few months after their debut EP “La Machine Qui Ne Sert à Rien”, La Machine (a collaboration of members of the French electro acts Position Parallèle and Celluloide/Thee Hyphen) is back with a new 6 track EP, “Vamos a la Playa”, which you can order here.

To be released on June 23rd, the first track on the EP is a minimalist and mechanical cover of a song by the Italian Italo disco duo Righeira, released in 1983 as the second single from their debut studio album, Righeira (1983).

Also included on this 6-track EP is a cover of Jacno’s 1979 track “Rectangle”.

Background/Info: This is the debut work of French duo La Machine. Driven by Pierre Pi (Komplex, Position Parallèle, Communication Zéro) and Éric U0 (Celluloide, Thee Hyphen, Signal/Bruit) the band claims to be inspired by fantasy films and B-movies from the 50s. The physical formats of the work feature one extra song plus two remixes.

Content: This work brings us back to the analogue magic of 80s Electro-Pop. It sounds pure old-school revealing funny lyrics for the title track and a simple, but cool lyrics for the B-side cut. Both songs have been remixed as well while we also get a cover version of the legendary “Pop Corn”-song.

+ + + : Both songs, the title track and “F.F.P.2” are brilliant pieces bringing 80s Synth-Pop back to life. Great sound treatments and analogue effects with sterile French vocals reminding me of bands like Taxi Girl and co. Both remixes are pretty cool as they bring an extended format of the songs.

– – – : The “Pop Corn” cover version is for sure a great song to play live but I’m missing the magic of the original edit.

Conclusion: This debut sounds more than promising; I’m really wondering about the next step of this band bringing the 80s alive with style.

Last year December, the French BOREDOMproduct label launched the debut single and video “La Machine Qui Ne Sert à Rien” for the all new minimal electro project La Machine. Behind La Machine we find some habitués, namely Pierre Pi (Komplex, Position Parallèle, Communication Zéro…) and Éric U0 (Celluloide, Thee Hyphen, Signal~Bruit…).

As far as inspiration goes, La Machine finds inspiration in fantasy films an B-Movies from the 50s as much as it recycles science fiction and horror movies.

A new video is out now for “FFP2”, the second track from the first EP “La Machine Qui Ne Sert à Rien” which the band describes as being “a genuine erotic-sanitary hymn, a plea for saliva exchange in a not quite imaginary hygienist world obsessed with the wearing of masks.”

The French BOREDOMproduct label has just launched the debut single and video “La Machine Qui Ne Sert à Rien” for the all new project La Machine. Behind La Machine we find some habitués, namely Pierre Pi (Komplex, Position Parallèle, Communication Zéro…) and Éric U0 (Celluloide, Thee Hyphen, Signal~Bruit…).

The track is actually a minimal electro cover of the 1967 proto-punk track by French model/singer Dani and comes with the extra track “FFP2”. Exclusive to the EP is also a dark and complex cover of the classic song “Pop Corn”. The tracklist for the EP is wrapped up with the extended versions of the first two tracks.

Inspired by fantasy films and B-Movies from the 50s, La Machine recycles science fiction and horror movies, and fits in a present where the absurd, the nuclear nightmare and the control of individuals are never very far away.

The debut single is available in several formats, a 5-track CD, a 10″ vinyl EP as well as a digital single out now and available via the BOREDOMproduct label shop.

Mortiis has announced the dates for “The tour that refuses to die” in Europe which he is doing with Mayhem. Mayhem is a Norwegian black metal band formed in Langhus in 1984. They were one of the founders of the Norwegian black metal scene and their music has strongly influenced the black metal genre. Mayhem’s early career was highly controversial as you all know.

On January 18th, 2019 the new album (number 13 already!) of German Industrial-Metal rockers OOMPH! will be released via Napalm Records! According the band it’s going to be as heavy, hard and dark as it has not been for a long time!

The accompanying European tour starts on March 1st, 2019! The band still will perform this year together with a big symphonic orchestra, live on stage, for the very first time in Moscow – Crocus City Hall (September 14th) and St-Petersburg – DK Lensoveta (September 16th). Before the festival season starts OOMPH! will do a show in Halle 02 – Heidelberg (DE) on June 7th and in Posthalle – Würzburg (DE) on June 9th.

Die Krupps have had enough. Here’s what their most recent press release says: “The answer to punitive tariffs on steel? So far it has been business, now it becomes personal! The Düsseldorf steel workers show solidarity with their fellow men, and show the POTUS the musical middle finger after another moment of madness, and shout an angry “Fuck You” in his direction!”
