(Photo by Erik Jarrigeon) Dark Minimal Project is a French electro cold wave act consisting of Ange Vesper and Guillaume VDR, augmented with producer Peter Rainman. They formed in 2022 in Lille (France) and is currently signed to Infacted Recordings.

The band recently released a 10-track strong remix album featuring remixes by People Theatre, Krieg-B, Front 242 / Patrick Codenys, Ruined Conflict, Dominatrix, XMS, Fatherless Child, Dark State, Ethan Wood and Résilience. You can still get the vinyl version on Bandcamp too.

Depeche Mode to release new single ‘Ghosts Again’ ahead of ‘Memento Mori’ album

Depeche Mode are set to release their 15th studio album “Memento Mori” on March 17th. The album will be preceded by the lead single “Ghosts Again” which will be released on February 9th.

Depeche Mode’s 15th studio album “Memento Mori” was produced by James Ford and Marta Salogni. In case you might have forgotten James Ford produced the band’s previous album “Spirit”.

Marta Salogni is an Italian record producer, mixer and recording engineer, who as a producer has worked with Björk, M.I.A., Groove Armada and Django Django to name but a few. As an engineer, Salogni worked with producers such as Danton Supple and David Wrench. Alongside Wrench, she has worked on projects with The xx, Goldfrapp, and Tracey Thorn’s 2018 Record alongside producer Ewan Pearson.

James Ford from his side is an English record producer, songwriter and musician, known for being a member of Simian Mobile Disco and The Last Shadow Puppets as well as his production work with the Arctic Monkeys, Foals, Florence and the Machine, Haim, Gorillaz, Klaxons, Jessie Ware and Kylie Minogue.

In further news, Dave Gahan and Kurt Uenala’s cover of The Raveonettes’ “Chains” is available now. The song originally appeared on The Raveonettes debut “Whip It On” from 2002 and the new version will be included on the re-worked version of the album “Rip It Off” out on vinyl later this year alongside other artists such as MØ, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Black Angels, Trentemøller and more.

Rroyce – My Dearest Enemy (EP – Infacted Recordings)

Format: Digital.

Background/Info: Dortmund (Germany) based Rroyce is back on track unleashing their second EP taken from their last album (cf. “Patience”).

Content: “My Dearest Enemy” was the second song from the “Patience”-album. Speaking for myself, I didn’t consider it as one of the best cuts from the album although it’s an efficient piece of danceable electro-pop music with some little future-pop elements on top. The song takes off with a sequence reminding me of Rammstein’s “Du Hast”. The song evolves a typical electro-pop way revealing an elevating chorus.

We next get remixes by Dominatrix, Aircrash Bureau, Frame Of Mind and Nine Seconds.

+ + + : I’m still convinced this is not the best song taken from “Patience” although I have to admit it had more impact on me now. The song is driven by great danceable, pop vibes and some empowering guitar riffs. The chorus has this transcendental effect, which makes a song accomplished and efficient! Among the remixes, I especially like the remix by Dominatrix, which clearly appears to be the most inspired band here.

– – – : I remain a bit skeptical when it comes to EP’s with only remixes. I also expected a bit more from the different remixes, Dominatrix being the single project adding a bonus.

Conclusion: No doubt about it, “Patience” is an album from which you can release several EP’s. Rroyce also is one of the newest electro-pop sensations from the past few years.

Best songs: “My Dearest Enemy – Original Mix”, “My Dearest Enemy – Dominatrix Remix”, “My Dearest Enemy – Frame Of Mind Remix”.

State Of The Union – Mindless (Digital EP – Infacted Recordings)

Genre/Influences: Electro-pop.

Background/Info: Californian based Johann Sebastian is back after a hiatus of four years. While we’re eagerly expecting the new full length album entitled “Indupop”, we here already get an appetizer. This EP features the title song plus 7 remixed songs.

Content: “Mindless” is a catchy, melodic electro-pop song like we’ve been used to hear from this band. Remixes have been done by Accessory, Ruined Conflict (2x), ES23 (2x) and DJ Dominatrix (2x). You’ll hear remixes of the title song plus other cuts.

+ + + : “Mindless” is not the best cut I’ve heard from Johann Sebastian although it’s a cool and well-crafted piece of synth-pop. Among the remixes I especially recommend the somewhat EBM flavored remix of the title track by DJ Dominatrix. Ruined Conflict also did a great job remixing “Encore”.

– – – : I would have liked to hear at least one extra song instead of this endless list of remixes. While Ruined Conflict did a great job on “Encore” they also featured a rather poorly inspired remix of “Industrial”.

Conclusion: This EP is food for DJ’s and the biggest fans of the band, but I prefer to discover the album to get an idea about State Of Nation ano 2018!

Logic & Olivia – Night Of Despair (Digital EP – Infacted Recordings)

Genre/Influences: Electro-pop.

Background/Info: German formation Logic & Olivia is already active for several years now and can look back at different productions released on Danse Macabre and Infacted Recordings (since 2014). This new EP is meant as a teaser to the new full length “Louder Than Words”.

Content: The title song is a great piece of electro-pop music, which is mainly carried by an impressive lead, a deep, vibrating bass line and a retro touch on top of the song.

We next get remixes by Dominatrix and Edobot plus a cool, instrumental B-side song, which sounds as a kind of extended version.

+ + + : This EP reveals a great title song, which in my humble opinion also is their best song to date. I especially like the phenomenal and somewhat vintage-like lead running through the song. But the song “Despair Of The Night” also is a great B-side. The song has been progressively built up and has a sort of transcendental-pop feeling.

– – – : The only minus point about the EP is that both remixes don’t really add a bonus. I can’t say the remixes are disappointing, but they remain under the high qualitative level of the original version.

Conclusion: This EP is exactly what I expect as a teaser announcing a new album; a great title song and an excellent B-side cut. The new full length sounds promising!

Orange Sector – Endzeit (DCD Album – Infacted Recordings)

Genre/Influences: EBM.

Background/Info: Orange Sector remains one of the most famous EBM bands from the 90s. After a hiatus of several years they came back to life in 2005 and started releasing new EBM work. “Endzeit” is a look back, kind of ‘best of’ from this second Orange Sector period. The bonus disc features an impressive list of remixes.

Content: The fans of Orange Sector will rediscover some of the band’s hottest songs and mainly EP-title songs from the ‘new millennium’-years. Hard and straight forward, driven by dry, cutting bass lines, carrying choruses which are easy to keep in mind, a danceable kick and powerful vocals are the main sound elements to define the sound of Orange Sector.

Remixes have been accomplished by NZ, Plastic Noise Experience, Angstfabrikk, AD:Key, Frontal, Zweite Jugend, Wellncocktail, Dominatrix, Ionic Vision, NordarR, Blitzmaschine, Run Level Zero, Lars Timm Felker and Martin Bodewell himself.

+ + + : This album is an opportunity to rediscover some of the bands hottest songs from the 21^st Century. I’m referring to “Der Maschinist”, “Geile Zeit”, “Glasmensch”, “Monoton”, “Stahlwerk” and “Farben”. It now becomes clear why Orange Sector remained a leading EBM formation. It’s all about power, solid bass lines, energetic body beats, commanding vocals and simply a ‘healthy load of sonic violence’. Orange Sector is a sort of transposition of early DAF into modern times. The songs are enraged and some of the lyrics and samplings are clearly engaged.

The different remixes are still history and I here would recommend the work accomplished by Blitzmaschine and the poppy “Club Mix” of “Touch” by Orange Sector.

– – – : A ‘best of’ always is stuff for discussion, but it doesn’t bring anything new. I however think a band like Orange Sector deserves this kind of release.

Conclusion: Orange Sector was one of the leading formations during the 90s, but they’re still ruling over the new millennium years. I’m not sure if the best is yet to come, but I think they’ll go on releasing EBM from a high qualitative level.

Best songs: “Der Maschinist”, “Geile Zeit”, “Krieg Und Frieden”, “Endzeit”, “Terroristen” + “Farben – Blitzmaschine Remix”.

Depeche Mode’s ‘Where’s The Revolution’ gets an 80s touch by a Polish fan, and the result sounds a lot better than the original!

When Depeche Mode’s “Heaven” video got the remix treatment by German remixer Dominatrix a few years ago, fans worldwide were unanimous by saying they really preferred that version to the official version. It’s no surprise that Depeche Mode’s newest single “Where’s The Revolution” also has received the remix treatment considering the poorly executed production by the original.

In a reaction the Polish fan who created the remix says: “This is a tribute to the early Depeche Mode with Alan Wilder. I just love their sound from 80’s and 90’s.”

The track, full title “Where’s the Revolution (Base Back To 80’s Remix)”, uses samples from the old Depeche Mode back catalogue just like the Dominatrix mix did. The remix also goes hand in hand with a video reminding us of the good old MTV when it was still a decent music channel.

Coincidentally, A few days ago we fooled quite a lot of fans when we announced that the band was to re-record their biggest 80s/90s hits (it was April 1st in case you didn’t realise). In a reaction some said that the band should better do it the other way round, namely re-recording their most recent material the old style way (that will be difficult with super producer Alan Wilder gone). So here’s the result, at least how it could have sounded.
