Genre/Influences: EBM, Electro-Pop, Body-Pop.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: Mexican artist and label owner Dimitri Berzerk last year released his debut-album “Nineteen Eighty Four”. He previously released several noticeable EP’s featuring guest singers while he also got a name for the endless number of remixes he made.

Content: Several songs from the album were already released on EP but we get “Album Versions” instead. Dimitri Berzerk deals with an eclectic Electronic sound which is however strongly inspired by 80s Electro-Wave resulting in danceable and catchy Electro/Body-Pop cuts and other harder EBM-songs. Guest singers are Mario Monk, Sarmen Almond, Franco Doglioli, Isa Zurizi, Juan Contreras, Artur Mas and of course Claus Larsen singing on one of Berzerk’s biggest songs so far “Ctrl+Alt+Del”.

+ + + : I think it has been a good idea to bring some of Dimitri Berzerk’s EP-songs together on a full length format. I like the way he moves from Electro/Body-Pop to harder EBM. It all sounds like he adapts himself to the singers creating a true chemistry. “Ctrl+Alt+Del” remains a phenomenal piece of music but I also have to mention another familiar cut “My Love Is Electric” featuring Franco Doglioli, “The Great Winf Orchestra” and the darker, instrumental, EBM-like “Thirteen Steps”.

– – – : The main challenge for this artist is to get more recognition on the European continent but he definitely has a nose to compose alluring Electro.

Conclusion: If you don’t know the EP’s of Dimitri Berzerk this album will serve as a great introduction.

Best songs: Ctrl+Alt+Del – Album Version”, “My Love Is Electric – Album Version”, “The Great Wind Orchestra – Ava’s Version”, “Thirteen Steps”.

Rate: 8.

Genre/Influences: Psy-Trance, Dark-Trance.

Format: Digital + CD.

Background/Info: This is the debut album of Mexican producer Bishop. The title of the work is meant as ‘a metaphor that means black ink, colored paint. It refers to the way in which the ancient Nahuas named the wisdom, tradition and knowledge that came together in their writing.’ The particularity of this album is that it’s a hybrid between a physical format and digital download including standard size CD packaging while you have to download the music with a unique Bandcamp code. Notice by the way this album was already released in 2021.

Content: The album takes off by uplifting electro mixing dark tones and Psy-Trance. The work is progressively evolving into explicit Psy-Trance influences although the atmosphere remains ultra-dark. The last song -which isn’t into Trance, is a remix by Dimitri Berzerk.

+ + + : I’m always in for Psy-Trance experiments and I like the way Bishop supports the production with dark sounds and raw Electro arrangements. Both debut tracks are great pieces to set dancefloors on fire.

– – – : I like the album and I deeply respect and support Sector Industrial Producciones but I’m not sure this artist -and especially this album fits to the label roster.

Conclusion: If you’re into dark Electronics driven by furious Psy-Trance music you definitely have to try Bishop.

Best songs: “Xoxoctik”, “Xihuitl”, “Haulima <3 – Cuicuiltik Mix”, “Yahuitl”.

Rate: 8½.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: “The Liquid Path” is the latest EP released by Mexican producer and label Owner Dimitri Berzerk. The work was already released last year.

Content: Every single EP by this artist reveals different music ideas and collaborations while moves on revealing alternative edits and remixes. This work moves from pure Dance-Pop to 80s driven Body-Pop. You’ll discover instrumental edits and sung tracks with guest singers. Most remixes have been made by Mexican artists although there also is an Industrial-driven one by Xotox.

+ + + : Diversity is the key to the work -and success, of Dimitri Berzerk. I’m more into the 80s driven retro sound from “A Refraction In Blue” which I prefer to the title song. Among the remixes I recommend the Trance-orientated remix of the title song by Cyberculture.

– – – : When you get an EP with a huge amount of remixes you’ll always get a few disappointing and forgettable songs. I however already heard better work from this artist.

Conclusion: Dimitri Berzerk is first of all there to make you dance on Pop and EBM tunes.

Best songs: “A Refraction In Blue”, “The Liquid Path – TrancEnd’s Cyberculture Remix”, “The Liquid Path – Modelo De Placer Underwater Mix”, “Sailing Through Uncertainty – DATA Remix”.

Dimitri Loyo better known as Dimitri Berzerk is a Mexican DJ, producer, remixer and label owner. His artist name ‘Berzerk’ is inspired by various sources. Some of you maybe remember that Atari video game with the same name, which was particularly important to the artist as it was his first experience with vocoders in a video game. So Dimitri seeks to express the influence of the Retro-Pop culture within his music. But his artist name is also a wink to Apoptygma Berzerk, which is a band Dimitri particularly like. After numerous remixes for other artists, Dimitri Berzerk started releasing his own music. Three EP’s have been released thus far on his own label Sector Industrial Producciones. The songs clearly reflect the above mentioned influences and are worthy of examination.

(Courtesy by Inferno Sound Diaries)

Q: You are active as a DJ, producer and remixer, artist, record label owner… but how did you get in touch with Electronic music? Can you tell us something more briefly about all your activities?

Dimitri: I’ve always been in love with music and in one way or another throughout my life I have sought to get involved with it. Everything started to flow better since I started as a DJ 16 years ago. From then on it has only been to continue advancing on this path. Electronic music, particularly everything related to Industrial and Synth-Pop, was one way that I was able to define myself better as a teenager. They are styles that caught me immediately and sounds that I later decided to work with. On the other hand, for approximately seven years I have been teaching DJ classes with very good results for both myself and my students.

Q: How did you finally come to compose your own music? What are the main sources of inspiration and what kind of sound did you have in mind?

Dimitri: With such a love for music it was only a matter of time before I started to compose my own music. I first tried to set up some bands and after several unsuccessful attempts I decided that it would be better working alone. In 2009 I started working on remix productions. This was a first step to later be able to compose my own songs.

Inspiration comes from everywhere, cinema, literature, video games, music, travel, philosophy, people and even in my dreams I have been able to come up with important ideas. The great challenge has been to find a way to abstract those ideas and translate them into something that can work without leaving the sound I am trying to present.

My main influences could be found between EBM, Synth-Pop, Industrial and New-Wave however I am always looking for and listening to music from other styles and scenes.

Q: You’ve already released some EPs where you collaborated with guest singers -like Claus Larsen. Tell us a little more about the writing of the EPs and the choice of the guest singers.

Dimitri: To be honest with you it has been a somewhat complicated task to be able releasing these EP’s especially because I have released them under my own label Sector Industrial. In one hand I have better control of what happens, but on the other hand the work intensifies since I have to take charge of the whole process behind a release. I think the real difficult thing is to dare taking the first step. After that, things start to flow and settle down step by step.

Collaborating with guest vocalists is a somewhat arduous task since many times everything has to be done remotely, however the result is always wonderful. I see it as a way to complement my work since I have always seen myself behind the machines programming music as a DJ or playing it live and having a guest on the vocals is always an extra element that helps to expand and fill the final sound of a song or in a presentation.

As you mentioned, Claus Larsen has been one of the people with whom I have had the opportunity to collaborate and I can only say that it has been an honour. Working with a person that I admire and respect for his musical work as well as his human quality is a dream come true.

Q: Your last EP “A.I.C.Q.T.I.L. has something conceptual and is an ode to the French film director Jean Luc Godard and his film “Alphaville”. What fascinates you about Godard’s work, who was a true innovator in film history?

Dimitri:

‘-Quel est le privilège du mort?

-Ne plus mourir

-Savez-vous ce qui transforme la nuit en lumière?

-La poesie’

Dialogues like this have made me love “Alphaville”. Godard’s work on this film is fascinating. Despite having received a lot of criticism for his ‘attempt of science fiction’ lacking special effects and images in space as was common at the time, I believe that he managed to capture his idea very well. Few would dare to produce a sci-fi film in a Film Noire style. Add to this poetry by Paul Éluard and “The New Refutation Of Time” by Jorge Luis Borges and you have a masterpiece, at least from my perspective.

When I saw the film translated into Spanish, I realized that the dialogues underwent slight changes in order to adapt them to the language. The same thing that apparently happened when Godard adapted “Borges”’s original text (written in Spanish) to the French language for the inclusion of the “Alpha 60” dialogues. My curiosity increased and I took on the task of looking for the film in as many languages as I could and the result was fascinating. Each version had slight changes, omissions and variations that adapt it to the cultural context of each country. Hence it is that I decide to title the song under an acrostic in Latin, in order to work from a slightly more ‘neutral’ point. The title could be understood as “The Strange Journey Of Consciousness That Seeks The Transmutation Of Darkness Into Light”.

Musically I sought to work with somewhat darker and colder sounds that were in turn warmed by being processed through an open reel tape. In short, this is a conceptual launch that seeks to narrow different worlds, the digital with the analog, the literary with the cinematographic and also the musical, the one that each language creates, etc.

Q: You have remixed an impressive list of international artists and you also like to see your own songs remixed by others. Tell us a little more about this fascination and how do you see yourself as a remixer? What are your favorite remixes? How do you work / proceed when remixing other artists?

Dimitri: As of today I have in my catalog just over 100 remixes produced under my signature DMT BERZERK. From the DJ’s perspective, remixing is a fundamental tool since in it you can find the style that best suits you in a given song. As a producer I love hearing the way others perceive and work on my compositions adjusting them to their own style. In addition, I think it is a very interesting way to interact between musicians and to finish exploiting the potential that a song may have hidden.

One of my favorite remixes is “Into Darkness” by the Mexican Post-Punk band Dramatic. I connected very quickly with the song and things just flowed. Regarding my production process, I usually listen to the song to be remixed a couple of times to find the way to work it. Once the way is found, I don’t listen to the song again to try to get away from its original sound as necessary. First of all, I want the remix to be useful in structure to be able to play it as a DJ and therefore to work musically on the dance floor. everything else is adapting under the infinity of existing possibilities 🙂

Q: How do you see yourself as a DJ and what influence do your DJ activities have on the songs you compose? What are the additional plans? Maybe an album?

Dimitri: My career as a DJ has helped me definitely a lot to work on issues related to music production since the experience on the dance floor has allowed me to delve into and understand a little more the reactions and sensations that each melody can provoke. On the other hand, being a DJ becomes a permanent responsibility so that the flow of music continues in motion since if we do not make an effort to promote new music we can be participants in a generational fracture within independent scenes.

Right now I have in preorder my new release entitled “The Liquid Path”, which I hope will see the light before the end of Summer. This is the third and last release that will be released from my debut album that will be presented in 2022.

But before that happens comes my eighth album of remixes for the second half of this year so there is still a lot of work and a lot music to share with all of you 🙂

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: This new chapter in the “Whispers Of The Future”-series reveals sixteen bands from the Mexican scene. These bands are mainly taken from the Sector Industrial Producciones roster.

Artists: Ego Bliss, Vyrtual Zociety, Neuvision, Depraved Priest, Hooverlordz, Infected Sound System, Bishop, SFX DJ, Dimitri Berzerk, Die-Go, Oxomaxoma, Dramatic, Radio Vampiro Internacional, Powerotik, Prostitutes & Proxenettes, Cid Project.

Content: This new compilation doesn’t feature as many other bands as the previous issue. It’s a new sonic visit of the Mexican underground scene and mainly Electronic artists have been featured. From intelligent Electro to heavy Dance-Pop and Body-Pop to Electro-Industrial and Techno-Industrial to EBM to Goth/Wave we get a fine selection of songs.

+ + + : I like this compilation series because the Mexican scene has a lot to offer when it comes to underground electro music, but also because Sector Industrial Producciones is worth to discover. This new compilation is also better than previous issues. Depraved Priest took me by surprise; this band can’t convince me with their last album, but they here unleash a solid Electro-Industrial-Techno cut. Hooverlordz is an interesting discovery for the dark-Electro approach mixed with some Acid sequences. Neuvision stands for alluring Body-Pop. Label owner Dimitri Berzerk is first of all a talented musician/producer, which perfectly knows how to mix solid EBM bass lines together with elevating Pop-driven choruses. I also want to mention the intelligent Electro approach of the opening song by Ego Bliss.

– – – : A few bands couldn’t convince me, but I guess that’s proper to all compilations. Prostitutes & Proxenetes is one of these bands, which has a lot to improve, but especially the production of the vocals, their vocalist singing out of tune.

Conclusion: I already like the previous compilation is this series, but this one is much better; great Mexican Electro!

Best bands: Depraved Priest, Hooverlordz, Infected Sound System, Dimitri Berzerk, Ego Bliss.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: Vyrtual Zociety is a project driven by Carlos Limon assisted by Kathya Miranda. A few EP’s were already released; “Sci Fi Citizen” being released last year and features ten songs.

Content: The title song is carried by a solid kick and an aggrotech lead while featuring some vocals’ effects. Seven remixes have been featured; Data, Nordika, Conkreto System, Dimitri Berzerk, Reflection, Vox Humana and Vyrtual Zociety took care to bring variation to the original edit. We also get 2 extra songs.

+ + + : “Sci Fi Citizen” is a cool song and the perfect cut for an EP title track. I like the diversity of the remixes and want to mention the somewhat darker version by the Mexican project Conkreto System and the empowered, danceable Electro-Pop edit by Dimitri Berzerk. Another remix I want to mention is the darker injected one by Vox Humana.

– – – : Both other songs “Voices Of The Future” and “Nuclear Survivor” left me a bit skeptical, not adding a true bonus to the EP.

Conclusion: The title song of this EP sounds pretty cool for the mix of electronic styles and seems to be a great source of inspiration for the artists who accomplished a remix.

Best songs: “Sci Fi Citizen – Dmt Berzerk”, “Sci Fi – 2020 Remix”, “Sci Fi Conkreto System Remix”.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: Dramatic is a Mexican trio, which released this debut production right at the end of 2019. It rather looks like a mini-album featuring five songs plus three remixes.

Content: It doesn’t take that long to realize Dramatic is inspired by some icons of the 80s Cold/Dark-Wave scene and especially Joy Division comes to mind. The guitar playing, the deep vibrating bass lines and deep, growling vocals are definitely getting us back to the darkest hours of the 80s. Some guitar parts also evoke the spirit of early Neon Judgement. All remixes are Electro-like and made by SFX DJ, Dimitri Berzerk and Modelo De Placer.

+ + + : If you like ‘classical’ Cold-Wave music Dramatic might catch your attention. It’s an honest emulation of the typical cold 80s ‘wave’-spirit. The guitar play on songs like “Hate” and “The Night” feel like awakening in the 80s. Among the remixes I especially recommend listening to the EBM-driven edit by DMT Berzerk and the more sophisticated remix by Modelo De Placer.

– – – : The sound production and mix of this work could me more professional. I personally like the Electronic-driven remixes, but I can imagine it’s not exactly what guitar lovers are going to like.

Conclusion: This album is an honest debut for Dramatic.

Best songs: “The Night”, “Hate”, “Into Darkness – DMT Berzerk Remix”, “Into Darkness – Modelo De Placer Remix”.

Genre/Influences: Minimal-Electro, Ambient-Electro.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: Next to the great “Resist”-EP Mexican DJ/producer/label owner, Dimitri Berzerk also released this EP during 2020. The EP is accompanied by the visual work of the Mexican artist Cristina Ramírez. We can speak about a conceptual album, ‘The voices are in charge of the various dubbing applied to Jean Luc Godard’s cinematographic work “Alphaville”.

Content: The title song is an instrumental piece mixing Ambient atmospheres together with Minimal-Electro treatments while a slow cadence is running through the song. We next get 8 bonus tracks, which are characterized by vocal samplings from the film by Jean Luc Godard. The specificity of the different edits is you each time get another language: Spanish, English, Russian, German, Hungarian, Italian, Polish and of course French.

+ + + : “A.I.C.Q.T.I.L.” has less in common with the “Resist”-EP, but it reveals another side of Dimitri Berzerk. If “Resist” clearly sounds as a dancefloor cut, we here discover a more dreamy song accomplished with great minimal sound treatments while the downtempo of the song makes it pretty accessible. From a pure commercial point of view the idea to inject the same spoken samples from the Godard movie in different languages is just great. It’s an original idea and I can’t remember if an artist already did such an approach. The EP also is a great ode to the genius of the ‘Nouvelle Vague’ film director Jean Luc Godard.

– – – : The only minus is that after a while you get a bit bored of the song, which is repeating itself. So you better choose the language you prefer. A Swedish edit would have been cool as well as there’s a great Swedish Electro scene.

Conclusion: Dimitri Berzerk didn’t repeat himself, but reveals another side of his creativity.

Best songs: “A.I.C.Q.T.I.L. – Interprétation En Français”.

Rate: (7½).

Genre/Influences: EBM, Body-Pop.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: This EP is an addition to the “Resist”-EP by Dimitri Berzerk. “Resist” has been released in different formats, this extra EP bringing all different remixes together as a kind of compilation.

Content: The EP features a total amount of 20 songs including the 6 remixes from the download card, which was available together with the vinyl format. You’ll get 10 edits of the “Ctrl+Als+Del”-song, which clearly is the ‘hit’ of Dimitri Berzerk featuring Claus Larsen as the singer. The song remains driven by a solid EBM bass line and a catchy chorus with passionate vocals on top.

Remixes have been made by Neuvision, Die-Go, Hooverlordz, cid project, SFX DJ, Fire Walkers, Rebel Empire, Substaat, FortLeben (3x), Larva + JP90, Dramatic, Delectro, Judas 12, Eloquent, Rasec, Neroconcret, JP90 and Delete.

+ + + : It’s especially cool to get the remixes from the download card of the vinyl now released on CD. I still like the main song of the EP, which is a true sonic fusion between classical EBM and a catchy chorus. There’s real chemistry between Dimitri Berzerk and Claus Larsen. Among the different remixes I once again salute the great job done by Cid Project who injected a terrific extra sound to the song while the Cold-Wave and totally reworked edit by Dramatic is phenomenal.

– – – : I’m still not convinced by a few songs like the cover version of Nena and the song “Endurance” although there are worse B-sides.

Conclusion: “Resist” has been released in all imaginable formats –maybe except cassette, so time for another great work by Dimitri Berzerk!

Best songs: “Ctrl+Alt+Del – Cid Project Remix”, “Ctrl+Alt+Del – Dramatic Rework”, “Ctrl+Alt+Del – Orange Sector Remix”, “Ctrl+Alt+Del – C-Lekktor Remix”, “Ctrl+Alt+Del – Neuvision Remix”.

Rate: (8).

Genre/Influences: EBM, Body-Pop.

Format: Digital, CD, Vinyl.

Background/Info: We all know Dimitri Berzerk as a ‘remixer’ and also as a label owner. He recently also started releasing his own stuff, taking off with the single/EP “My Love Is Electric” featuring Franco Doglioli. He last year struck back with a new EP featuring Claus Larsen (Leather Strip) as a guest singer. “Resist” has been released in different formats and reveals some differences in the tracklists.

Content: “Resist” sounds much more EBM-driven than “My Love Is Electric”. Claus Larsen sings on two songs injecting his enraged way of singing on top of efficient EBM songs with some catchy choruses. Next to these songs you’ll hear more new songs including a surprising cover version of Nena’s “Just A Dream” featuring the childish-like vocals of Mexican guest singer Pamuk.

The EP also features remixes by Orange Sector, C-Lekktor, SFX DJ, Bishop UPG and Technomancer feat. Angst Pop. As bonus tracks we get more remixes by Cid Project, Substaat, Larva + JP90, Delectro, Dramatic and Fortleben.

+ + + : Dimitri Berzerk deals with a well-crafted and efficient EBM format; solid EBM bass lines and somewhat catchy choruses. Claus Larsen brings his great and passionate vocals giving an extra boost to the songs. Both songs featuring Claus Larsen are the best ones, but I also have to mention the powerful remix of Orange Sector and another one by C-Lekktor. Among the bonus remixes you’ll find at the CD and vinyl I especially recommend the divine remix of the title song by Cid Project. There’s an irresistible, blasting sound running through the remix. And there also is a surprising Cold-Wave styled remix by Dramatic with the input of another singer. Last, but not least I also want to say a word about the great digipak of the CD and the green picture disc of the vinyl format.

– – – : The cover version of Nena is an original, but not exactly the most convincing cut. Another song that couldn’t totally convince me is the somewhat electro-Punk driven “Endurance”, which is the other song with Claus Larsen singing.

Conclusion: “Resist” is definitely more convincing than the previous EP so I think this artist is progressively ready to release a full length album!

Best songs: “Ctrl+Alt+Del – Single Version feat. Claus Larsen”, “Ctrl+Alt+Del – Cid Project Remix”, “Ctrl+Alt+Del – Dramatic Rework”, “Ctrl+Alt+Del – Orange Sector Remix”, “Ctrl+Alt+Del – C-Lekktor Remix”.

Rate: (8½).

Genre/Influences: EBM, Electro-Pop, Gothic.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: This sampler features ten bands from the Mexican Electro/Gothic scene. Most of the bands are part of the Sector Industrial Producciones roster, a label run by Dimitri Berzerk. The compilation has been released in collaboration with the Norwegian label Sub Culture Records.

Artists: Infected Sound System, Vyrtual Zociety, Oxomaxoma, Dramatic, Dimitri Berzerk, Modelo De Placer, Fire In Paris, Cibernia, SFX DJ, Die-Go.

Content: This sampler is a new opportunity to get a bit more familiar with the Mexican scene. We always link Mexico to Hocico, Amduscia and C-Lekktor (to name the most famous ones), but there’s much more to discover. From pumping Aggrotech to powerful electro-Pop to Industrial-Wave to EBM to Electro-Pop to Techno-Body music to Acid every single band has something of its own. I also want to mention a bonus track featured in the digital format, which is a mix of 37 minutes.

+ + + : What I like with such compilations is to discover new or less familiar artists. And I here discovered a great debut song by Infected Sound System, which is driven by an alluring Aggrotech lead. Vyrtual Zociety delivers a solid Electro-Pop song infused with some extra adrenaline and darkness. Modelo De Placer is another interesting discovery for its robotic kind of Electro-Pop. Fire In Paris brings a more classic Electro-Pop format with fragile female vocals on top. Last, but not least I also discovered a great song by Dimitri Berzerk himself; a mix of EBM and catchy Pop.

– – – : The mix and mastering of the compilation could be more professional.

Conclusion: This is a great compilation revealing some talented artists from the Mexican scene.

Best bands: Infected Sound System, Dimitri Berzerk, Vyrtual Zociety, Fire In Paris, Modelo De Placer.

Genre/Influences: EBM, Body-Pop.

Format: Digital.

Background/Info: We all know Dimitri Berzerk as a ‘remixer’ and also as a label owner. But he last year also released a very own single/EP (cf. “My Love Is Electric”) featuring Franco Doglioli. He now strikes back with a new EP and invites Claus Larsen (Leather Strip) to sing.

Content: “Resist” sounds much more EBM-driven than the previous EP. Claus Larsen sings on two songs injecting his enraged way of singing on top of efficient EBM songs with some catchy choruses. Next to these songs you’ll find two more new cuts plus a cover version of Nena’s “Just A Dream” featuring the childish-like vocals of Pamuk.

The EP also features remixes by Orange Sector, C-Lekktor, DJ Sobrino + Scorpio 69, Bishop UPG and Technomancer feat. Angst Pop.

+ + + : Dimitri Berzerk deals with a well-crafted and efficient EBM format; solid bass lines and somewhat catchy choruses. Claus Larsen brings his great and passionate vocals giving an extra boost to the songs. Both songs featuring Claus Larsen are the best ones, but I also have to mention the powerful remix of Orange Sector and another one by C-Lekktor. Dimitri Berzerk sounds inspired by bands like Front 242 and And One. The least I can say is he made a very good mix of these influences together with a personal input.

– – – : The cover version of Nena is an original one, but not exactly the most convincing cut.

Conclusion: “Resist” is definitely more convincing than the previous EP so I think this artist is progressively ready to release a full length album!

Best songs: “Ctrl+Alt+Del – Single Version feat. Claus Larsen”, “Endurance feat. Claus Larsen”, “Ctrl+Alt+Del – Orange Sector Remix”, “Ctrl+Alt+Del – C-Lekktor Remix”.

Genre/Influences: Electro-pop.

Format: Digital.

Background/Info: State Of The Union is already active for twenty years now. Driven by Johann Sebastian, the project has already released five albums and multiple successful electro-pop songs. “Bad Flower” is the band’s newest work featuring a title song, an extra B-side cut plus a load of remixes by other artists.

Content: “Bad Flower” is a rather ‘classic’ electro-pop song driven by hopping sequences and recovered with a cool lead. The song progressively evolves towards an approximate climax. Remixes have been accomplished by C-Lekktor, Ruined Conflict, Nordika, 64 Rockets, Digital Energy, DMT Berzerk and Aircrash Bureau. The bonus song –or B-side track, “Behind That Dress” is a sweet and evasive experience. The song has been remixed by Ruined Conflict as well.

+ + + : “Bad Flower” is a cool new song for State Of The Union. It also inspired some artists to accomplish great remixes. I first of all have to mention the great job done by C-Lekktor, boosting the original version into a darker dimension. Ruined Conflict is another band to mention, injecting an extra future-pop dose to the song. Mexican producer, DJ and label owner Dimitri Berzerk already did great remixes and this one of “Bad Flower” is another successful and danceable piece.

– – – : “Behind That Dress” is nothing more than a B-side song, but doesn’t really add a real extra to the EP. I also expected a bit more from the remix by an established formation like Aircrash Bureau.

Conclusion: “Bad Flower” will probably not become the biggest hit of State Of The Union, but it’s a cool song and teaser to the next album.

Best songs: “Bad Flower – Ruined Conflict Remix”, “Bad Flower – C-Lekktor Remix”, “Bad Flower – DMT Berzerk Remix”, “Bad Flower”.

Genre/Influences:
Dark-electro,
EBM, techno-body, minimal-electronics.

Background/Info:
Next
to the first volume of this series, which is devoted to gothic music, we here
get a new selection of 32 bands dealing with the underground side of electronic
music. The compilation has been compiled by Dimitri Berzerk.

Artists:
C-Lekktor,
Circuito Cerrado, Cid Project, Electrovot, Dimitri Berzerk, Neuvision, Nordika,
Vyrtual Zociety, Red Industrie, Oxomaxoma, Vox Humana ao.

Content:
Mexico
has always been a prolific ground for alternative electronics and this sampler
reveals the welfare of the country when it comes to dark-electronics, EBM and
related genres. The compilation brings a nice twist between famous and
established names at one side and upcoming talents at the other side. It’s
first of all an opportunity to discover great danceable songs from bands you
better can keep their names in mind.

+
+ + : Here again I have to congratulate the efforts of Dimitri Berzerk to
release such an artistic and informative compilation; great artwork and a nice
selection of bands. The booklet is an essential tool to get you a bit more
familiar with the featured artists. It’s an opportunity to discover great,
danceable songs, which will ravish DJ’s. It will lead me too far mentioning all
noticeable artists, but I hear great work from La Bande-Son Imaginaire (probably
the most original song from the sampler through the addition of violin sounds),
Red Industrie (for the minimalism and sound intelligence) and Infected Sound
System plus Chaotic Rave System (both for composing stumping ‘oontz’
electronics).

–
– – : I think it’s a pity bands such as Hocico and Amduscia weren’t featured.
I know they belong to the best Mexican exports from this scene so we all know
them, but it would have been cool to get them on board.

Conclusion:
This
compilation is a terrific exposure of the talented Mexican electro scene! It’s
an absolute must-have!

Best
bands: Chaotic Rave System, La Bande-Son Imaginaire, Red Industrie, Infected
Sound System, C-Lekktor, C-Phalea, Neuvision, Ego Bliss, SFX DJ.

Rate:

Genre/Influences:
Gothic,
dark-wave, post-punk.

Background/Info:
This
compilation was compiled by Lord Fer and Dimitri Berzerk aka DMT Berzerk
(producer, remixer, event promoter and DJ). It’s a fine selection of 32 Mexican
bands from the past and today mainly dealing with ‘the darker side’ of
underground music and more explicitly with gothic, dark-wave and post-punk
music.

Artists:
Severance,
Aleister, Hoffen, Equinoxious, Dramatic, Los Desterrados, Neue Strassen,
Godless Procession, Mekrokiev, Hueco, The Seventh Seal, Orlok, Valeria,
Mementut, Prismatic Shapes, Winter Svn, Gorgonas ao.

Content:
Welcome
to the dark-side of the Mexican scene, which is enlightened by a strong
cocktail of artists dealing with gothic-, dark-wave- and post-punk music. It’s
first of all an opportunity to discover an impressive list of unknown or less
familiar formations. From pure 80s inspired dark-wave songs to minimal-wave to
gothic, this sampler has a lot to offer, but will first of all appeal for
guitar lovers.

+
+ + : Like most productions released by Sector Industrial Producciones, this
sampler has a great artistic layout while the inside booklet will give you
interesting info about the bands. I also like compilations on, which you can
discover ‘new’ and/or ‘less familiar’ names. But I also discovered cool songs
by bands such as Das Leiden, Valeria, Capitals and Hueco.

–
– – : I think it’s rather ‘normal’ to discover a few forgettable songs, but
globally speaking if you’re into this kind of music you for sure gone hear
noticeable cuts.

Conclusion:
We’re
more familiar with the electro-minded artists from Mexico, but this compilation
reveals an interesting canvas of gothic music.

Best
bands: Valeria, Capitals, Hueco, Das Leiden, Hoffen, Severance.

Genre/Influences:
EBM.

Background/Info:
Oxomaxoma
is probably one of the longest active EBM bands from the Mexican scene. They
were already active in the 80s, but didn’t exactly release music on a regular
basis. This album features five songs, three live cuts and one remix.

Content:
Oxomaxoma
is clearly inspired by good-old EBM reminding me of the spirit of the late 80s
and early 90s. Front 242 might be seen as one of the sources of inspiration,
but globally speaking the production is unpolished. The live cuts are somewhat
different and more elaborated. Last, but not least we get a remix of the main
song “Shot The Gun” by label owner Dimitri Berzerk. This cut sounds more
professional and club-minded.

+
+ + : If you’re a nostalgic of early/old EBM this work might be something for
you. And especially if you’re into a rough and unpolished production. I have a
preference for the live take of “I’m The Creep” which is characterized by a
strong progression. The best track however is the remix by DMT Berzerk, who
once more confirms to be a talented remixer transposing the original edit into
a dancefloor piece.

–
– – : I’m not a huge fan of the poorly inspired production process. It might
be intentional to bring the old spirit of late 80s/early 90s EBM awake, but I
think it sounds a bit out of date.

Conclusion:
This
is a product ion for all fans of the band, EBM collectors and 80s nostalgia,
but I expect a bit more from this record.

Best
songs: “Shot The Gun! – DMT Berzerk Remix”, “I’m The Creep – We Belong Here
Live Mix”.

Background/Info:
Next
to the “My Love Is Electric”-single and the “Remixes”-CD EP Dimitri Berzerk
also released a vinyl with “Club Mixes”. This disc in neon pink color has been
limited to 250 copies and features eight songs.

Content:
The
title song and the B-side track “Nowhere Girl” has been featured as a 12”
Version. We next get remixes by Frozen Plasma, Vyrtual Zociety, Eloquent,
Elektrostaub and Modelo De Placer. All these bands were still featured at the
“Remixes”-EP, but the remixes here are different and globally speaking more
dancefloor/club driven.

We
also get a remix of the title song by 89St, which was not featured at the
“Remixes”-release.

+
+ + : Speaking for myself, I definitely prefer this “Club Mixes”-work, which
is more danceable. The remixes aren’t that much different, but the little
details make the difference. I like the remixes by Frozen Plasma and
Elektrostaub while the 12” Version of “Nowhere Girl” is a cool song. The
picture color vinyl looks pretty cool as well and is food for DJ’s.

–
– – : “My Love Is Electric” counts an impressive list of remixes, which are
spread over both EP’s. I know what to hear more original songs from Dimitri
Berzerk.

Conclusion:
I
personally prefer this EP instead of the “Remixes”-edit. There are a few songs
that will move you to dance!

Best
songs: “My Love Is Electric – Frozen Plasma Remix”, “My Love Is Electric –
Elektrostaub Remix”, “My Love Is Electric – 12” Version”, “Nowhere Girl – 12”
Version”.

Background/Info:
I
discovered this Mexican project a few years ago now. The debut album “The
Demon-Haunted world” released in 2015 by Advoxya Records was a rather
disappointing introduction to the project’s sound universe. “Manifiesto” is the
band’s second project, which has been released in their homeland by Sector
Industrial Producciones.

Content:
Compared
to the debut album, the influences remain pretty similar, but the global
production has been seriously improved. Neuvision still sounds inspired by EBM
elements, which have been mixed together with an electro-ambient approach
reminding me J.M. Jarre and related artists. On top of it all you’ll also
noticed a few electro-pop elements injecting a catchy flavor to the work. The
vocal parts are rather clear. Both last cuts are remixes by Dimitri Berzerk and
Luis Bishop.

+
+ + : First of all there’s a cool artwork. The digipak format says much more
than the music you can hear on streaming platforms. Sound-wise Neurovision has
made a serious progression. The carrying bass lines together with the
retro-synth sounds create a surprising, but original match. I’m totally in the
vintage-style of the work resulting in several noticeable cuts. “Eraser” is a
truly attention grabber.

–
– – : I think it would be a little bonus getting more vocals. The mix of
influences isn’t an easy thing, which I’m afraid will not convince everybody. I
expected a bit more out of the remixes.

Conclusion:
Neurovision
has seriously improved and elaborated their sound. “Manifiesto” is a noticeable
unique work, which I recommend for you to discover.

Best
songs: “Eraser”, “Nukem”, “Sunblock 5000”, “Manifiesto”.

Genre/Influences:
Electro-pop,
dance-pop.

Background/Info:
Dimitri
Berzerk is a rather familiar name from the Mexican electro scene. Based in
Mexico City he’s running Sector Industrial Producciones next to his activities
as a DJ and promoter for events, and of course as a producer/remixer as DMT
Berzerk. He did an impressive number of great remixes for famous artists, but
he now for the first time released own material. Argentina singer Franco
Doglioli (Reflection, Sequencia) has been asked to take care of the vocals.

Content:
“My
Love Is Electric” has been originally released as single and has been now
exposed to the remix skills of other artists. Frozen Plasma (also featured on
the single), Vyrtual Zociety, Eloquent, Max Droia, Die-Go, SoftWave, Elektrostaub,
Electro Roots, Vox Humana and Modelo De Placer has been asked to remix the
title song. There are a few “Extended Remixes” featured, which is a quite
familiar edit for DMT Berzerk when he’s remixing other artists.

The
EP also features a kind of B-side song entitled “Nowhere Girl”.

+
+ + : The original song featuring Franco Doglioli is a cool and danceable
electro-pop & dance cut. If you know the remixes of DMT Berzerk and his
dance-pop approach this song will not be totally surprising. The other song
“Nowhere Girl” is also a cool track and definitely more than simply a B-side
track. Among the remixes I was especially convinced by the very club-minded
edit of Die-Go, which features a few Front 242 elements. Other noticeable
remixes have been accomplished by Vyrtual Zociety and Modelo De Placer. It also
is an opportunity to discover less familiar artists. Last, but not least, I
also have to say a word about the cool and ingenious package of this CD format.

–
– – : I’ve never been a huge fan of EP featuring an endless list of remixes
from the same song.

Conclusion:
Dimitri
Berzerk has finally decided to release his own stuff and that’s a real positive
step, which I think will only increase his growing popularity.

Best
songs: “My Love Is Electric – Die-Go Remix”, “My Love Is Electric – Modelo De
Placer Extended Remix”, “My Love Is Electric – Single Version”, “Nowhere Girl –
Single Version”.

He decided to release these remixes as albums in the “Remixes Collection”-series. This is the 3rd volume featuring 12 remixes.

Content: Dimitri Berzerk has remixed some real famous artists, but this new disc features many less familiar bands. Most of the remixes mix electro-pop and danceable vibes. ‘Electro-pop’ because most of the bands being remixed by this producer originally sound like electro-pop and ‘dance’ because as a DJ he perfectly knows how bringing his audience to move. Most of the remixes are extended versions.

The most familiar names from the tracklist are Syrian, Loewenhertz, Head-Less, Electrostaub, Nordika, Hoffen and Schwarzschild. But Projekt Ich, Shadow Lady, Vantanoir, Microclocks and Rebel Empire are not exactly familiar names.

+ + + : Referring to the bands that have been remixed on this new volume I would say it’s not as interesting, but once you’ve heard the album you’ll definitely agree to say it’s a great –and maybe the best, album from the three. Dimitri Berzerk feels comfortable remixing electro-pop, future-pop and even EBM. He has this magic touch to get people dance. But he also made me curious to discover unknown bands. I can only advise artists in search of a good remix to get in touch with this artist.

– – – : My single regret – and it’s for sure very personal, is that some remixed are a bit too long. That’s why they’re called ‘extended’ and even if it’s good dance stuff, it’s sometimes more efficient to get a shorter version –even for dancefloors!

Conclusion: This is an interesting series; pure dance-fun for electro-pop lovers and club visitors!

Best songs: Head-Less “Punish Your Head”, Shadow Lady “Verloren Passion”, Syrian “Ninja Warrior”, Schwarzschild “Wir Sind Nicht Allein”, Hoffen “Cold Tears Of An Angel”.

Rate: (7½).

Background/Info: I couldn’t resist reviewing this artistic double vinyl compilation featuring 20 international bands dealing with varied, but related music genres. This compilation released in 2016 (!) is a celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Mexican organization “El Real Under”. This organization is totally devoted to the ‘underground’ music and brings parties and concerts. Sector Industrial Producciones is driven by Dimitri Berzerk. This vinyl was the first release from the label.

Artists: Carcrash International, Simi Nah, Attrition, Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Apoptygma Berzerk, Cid Project, Trans-X, State Of The Union, Shiv-R, C-Lekktor, Larva, Tobias Bernstrup, Sturm Café ao.

Content: The tracklist is absolutely impressive, revealing a wide diversity of bands and music styles, but still a very international selection of bands and artists from the early new-wave years (Carcrash International, Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Trans-X, Attrition…) and contemporary leading formations (Apoptygma Berzerk, C-Lekktor, Shiv-R, Sturm Café…).

The tracklist is composed by exclusive tracks and songs that have been featured for the very first time on vinyl. I’ve to say that several ‘exclusive’ songs are remixes.

+ + + : You just need a brief look at the tracklist to realize this compilation is featuring real great names, but the diversity of the artist is also worthy of examination. From 80s legendary formations dealing with new-wave and wave-pop to great electro-pop to pure EBM to powerful dark-electronics to future-pop (with a Spanish cover of VNV Nation’s “Honour” by State Of The Union) this album is filled with numerous great surprises. Another essential element is the ultra artistic artwork of this release featuring 2 picture discs.

– – – : I’ve been just less convinced by a few (I guess) Mexican formations dealing with poorly inspired punk music, but which are probably renowned and respected in their homeland. Another and very personal regret is that the informative booklet is only written in Spanish.

Conclusion: This is a great compilation and I also have to recommend you to discover the Mexican label Sector Industrial Producciones.

Best bands: Simi Nah, Cid Project, Trans-X, Shiv-R, The Ancients, C-Lekktor.

Rate: (8).

Content: I will not take you that long to notice the 80s inspiration running through this work. Some songs might remind you of The Cure and Trisomie 21. The songs have been accentuated by melancholia and dark atmospheres. The vocals are pretty sterile, reinforcing the 80s approach. The songs have been sung in English, but you also will discover cuts sung in Spanish.

The last song is a remix by Dimitri Berzerk injecting a huge dose of electronics to the original version.

+ + + : I was rather convinced by this 80s emulation and especially the great guitar playing was worthy of examination. The fuzzy guitar playing running through “Two Headed Hydra” is absolutely great. The songs are supported by beautiful melancholia although I prefer the harder passages from the tracklist. The vocals reveal less emotion and that’s another cool aspect reminding me of the cold approach of 80s new/cold-wave music. The remix by Dimitri Berzerk has less in common with the sound of this album, but it’s a great song.

– – – : Even if I like the way of singing I also think it’s the main aspect of the production that needs to be improved. Some vocal parts can’t totally convince, revealing some hesitation.

Conclusion: I can’t say to have heard an essential production in the post new-wave and cold-wave music, but Hoffen is an interesting formation having accomplished a promising debut.

Best songs: “Two Headed Hydra”, “Purple Light”, “Cold Tears Of An Angel – DMT Berzerk Remix”.

Rate: (7).

Background/Info: Dimitri (DMT) Berzerk is a Mexican DJ and producer you for sure already discovered by one of his endless remixes he made for other artists. He started assembling these remixes on albums and has unleashed the second volume in the “Remixes Collection”. The CD format is strictly limited to 200 copies and has been released on his very own label.

Content: This second edition features remixes Dimitri Berzerk made for Future Perfect, Reflection, Sinestar, Vox Humana, Cid Project, Want/ed, Devilsight, Dead Man Recovering, Zoon Politicon, Wumpscut, Data and Kromak. It’s an interesting selection of bands dealing with different kinds of electronic music; from electro-pop to EBM to dark-electronics.

DMT Berzerk seriously reworked the songs into mainly electro-pop driven edits, but he also added or hold on EBM influences on other cuts.

+ + + : Making remixes is a long-time habit in different music genres, but the interesting element about this artist is he has some particular skills to do the job. It’s not just a remix that has been made in a hurry, but you can feel a real sound approach and I dare to say ‘sound philosophy’ behind the remixes. Even if most of the songs have been restyled into danceable and sometimes clubby electro-pop, I also noticed a few surprising songs such as the minimal remix of Wumpscut’s “Wreath Of Barbs” and the trance vibes that have been held on at Kromak’s (side-project C-Lekktor) “Dying 4 U”. There’s a great diversity, which sometimes moves at the edge of electro-ambient and then becomes pretty vintage-like, but globally speaking there’s a real coherence between all remixes.

– – – : This is a fully enjoyable and entertaining album, but maybe without absolute hits although multiple tracks for DJ’s.

Conclusion: I’ve never fond of remixes, but this kind of concept is different. I think it’s a damned good idea to get the remixes Dimitri Berzerk made for others on one disc.

Best songs: Kromak: “Dying 4 U feat. Manriquez”, Sinestar: “Fortunes Faded”, Wumpscut: “Wreath Of Barbs”, Zoon Politicon: “Dreamer”, Devilsight: “This Is The Feeling Of My Hate”.

Rate: (7½).
