Dark Line Spectrum – Stolen Memory (Reiteration) (Digital Album – Dark Line Spectrum)
Dark Line Spectrum isn’t a project that immediately rang a bell. It’s reportedly a French act that has been active for several years and released its debut album earlier this year.
The most prominent influence is clearly EBM-oriented, with the first track featuring relatively clear vocals. The overall effect initially feels somewhat monotonous and underdeveloped, but the album gradually improves as it progresses. The tracks maintain a distinctly EBM sound, occasionally enhanced by heavy bass lines reminiscent of Pouppée Fabrikk. The vocals also become more menacing and convincing as the album unfolds. The first and final tracks serve as atmospheric intro and outro, respectively.
While this debut doesn’t sound groundbreaking, and there are certainly areas that could benefit from further refinement, the second half of “Stolen Memory” reveals glimpses of potential. After all, this is only a first full length. (Rating:6½).
