German medieval rock / Neue Deutsche Härte band Tanzwut have released the single “Herz aus Stein” and set their new album of the same name for September 4, 2026 via NoCut / SPV. The official video for the title track is already online.

The title track draws on Wilhelm Hauff’s “Das kalte Herz” and brings that story in a present-day setting shaped by pressure, optimisation, and emotional distance. Musically the album offers heavier rock material such as “Rosenkrieg” and “Keine Band für eine Nacht,” punk-leaning material including “No Future,” and quieter songs such as “Ewig wie das Eis.”

Frontman Teufel said, “We wanted to make an album that feels like a night of dancing in an old tavern: Wild, loud, and damn alive.”

Besides the CD digipak, there will be a grey black dust vinyl, red marbled vinyl, liquid vinyl, and a fan box. The fan box is limited to 666 copies and includes the digipak, a signed card, a heart pendant, eight coasters, a cosmetic bag, and a patchouli-scented soap.

About Tanzwut

Tanzwut were founded in Berlin in 1997. The band emerged partly from the medieval music scene around Corvus Corax, with the original lineup being Teufel, Castus, Wim Dobbrisch, Der heilige St. Brandanarius, Koll. A., and Tec. The project pushed medieval instrumentation into a heavier amplified setting.

The first attempt to merge medieval music with punk was made with Feeling B, the pre-Rammstein band that included Paul Landers. Landers gave Brandan (Der heilige St. Brandanarius) a guitar for those earliest experiments in combining rock guitar with bagpipes. Teufel then introduced this approach in Corvus Corax, before he and Brandan began writing the first Tanzwut songs.

The self-titled debut album, produced by Jon Caffery, arrived in March 1999 through EMI Electrola.

From then on, Tanzwut released several studio albums that offered their crossover of bagpipes, rock, electronics, and Neue Deutsche Härte: “Tanzwut” in 1999, “Labyrinth der Sinne” in 2000, “Ihr wolltet Spaß” in 2003, and “Schattenreiter” in 2006.

Next came “Morus et diabolus” and “Weiße Nächte” in 2011, “Höllenfahrt” in 2013, “Eselsmesse” in 2014, “Freitag der 13.” in 2015, “Schreib es mit Blut” in 2016, and “Seemannsgarn” in 2019. The band in the meantime moved from AFM in the mid-2010s, to NoCut / SPV in the most recent years.

Recent releases include “Die Tanzwut kehrt zurück” released on May 28, 2021, the retrospective “Silberne Hochzeit” in 2023, and “Achtung Mensch!” on August 30, 2024 after a delay announced by the band. And now there is “Herz aus Stein,” due on September 4, 2026.

The band anno 2026 consists of Teufel, Robin Hund, Der Zwilling, Shumon, Pyro, Manu, and Alexius.

Background/Info: German formation Tanzwut has been set up twenty five years ago now. They celebrate this happening together with their fans unleashing “Silberne Hochzeit” as a retrospective to this successful career.

Content: The work brings a nice selection of Tanzwut songs which have this common element characterized by the power and melody of bagpipes. Imagine a Metal driven formation where next to guitar, the magic of bagpipes emanate. On top of it all you get German vocals by their charismatic frontman ‘Teufel’.

+ + + : Except some very early songs from their debut album we get a nice selection of ‘older’ songs and recently released material. Tanzwut has always been  a very unique experience in sound because of the mix between Metal- and Medieval music; the fusion between guitar and bagpipes. Power and melody become one creating while driven by the fast cadence of the drums. “Dämmerung” and “Nein Nein” remain to me exceptional tracks illustrating the sound of Tanzwut. “Der Wächter” and “Lügner” both are other great cuts.

– – – : All over the years the band lost a bit of its initial magic although they remain very successful -mainly in their homeland.

Conclusion: A celebration opus for a very exclusive formation appealing for Metal- and Medieval fans.

After a two years break, due to Covid-19, the annual Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2022 (29th edition) will take place from 3rd-6th June in the Agra-Halle and surrounded area of Leipzig, Germany.

WGT focuses especially on the gothic, (steam)punk, new wave, electro, EBM, industrial and medieval music and (sub)culture. It is a total-concept world festival including concerts, renaissance fairs, viking and pagan markets, exhibitions, CD/DVD and film premieres, lectures, artist signing events, fetish events, and (late-night) parties.

Approximately 200 artists are on the list, spread over more than 50 locations and the festival has about 20.000 visitors. As usual a lot of names out of the dark scene will play WGT: Lacrimosa, IAMX, Clan of Xymox, Combichrist, Rabia Sorda, Corvus Corax, VNV Nation, Orange Sector, Tanzwut, Xotox, Eisfabrik, Unzucht, Nachtblut, NNHMN, Linea Aspera, Minuit Machine, Dark, Fïx8:Sëd8, Letzte Instanz, Nosferatu, …

Background/Info: Originally released in 2020, the latest album of the German Mono Inc. phenomena has been re-released as a box featuring the original disc plus a live disc and an extra disc with piano versions.

Content: “The Book Of Fire” totally stands for the sound and global approach of the German formation driven by their charismatic frontman Martin Engler. The songs are mixing Goth-Metal with extra carrying choruses on top. The electronic arrangements inject a melodic and somewhat Pop driven touch on top of the menacing guitar riffs. Tilo Wolff (Lacrimosa) has been featured on one of the songs.

The live album reveals the maturity of the band and the symbiotic relationship between the band and their fans. The recording features eleven live cuts getting us back to some or the band’s most famous songs.

The last disc brings us piano versions of all original songs from “The Book Of Fire”; simply piano creating a Cinematic effect.  

+ + + : Mono Inc. became one of the most popular underground acts of the German Goth-Metal scene and the live disc only illustrates their leading status. “The Book Of Fire” is a great album featuring multiple outstanding songs. The success formula of this band is the perfect balance between powerful guitar play and melodic electronics. Martin Engler also is a talented singer with a charismatic voice. The songs have been accomplished with judicious sound arrangements. It’s also great to see Tilo wolf and Tanzwut being each featured in one song. “Louder Than Hell” remains my favorite song, but there are numerous cool tracks. Among the live songs I especially recommend the final cut “Children Of The Dark”. Some of the piano versions are also worth listening to listen for their evasive, Cinematic style.

– – – : I can’t imagine real minus points about this brilliant album. I just can’t understand Mono Inc. isn’t more recognized outside Germany.

Conclusion: “The Book Of Fire” is an absolute must have for the fans, but it first of all is a great and poignant production. Respect!

Best songs: “Louder Than Hell”, “Death Or Live”, “Shining Light”, “The Gods Of Love”, “Right For The Devil” + “Children Of The Dark”, “Funeral Song”, “The Banks Of Eden” + “Death Or Live”.

Background/Info: Active since the late 90s and driven by their charismatic frontman ‘Teufel’ Tanzwut can look back at an impressive and successful discography. “Die tanzwut Kehrt Zurück” was originally released in the summer of 2021, but re-released with an extra disc  at the end of the year.

Content: Tanzwut moves on composing solid Metal riffs and carrying Medieval- and Folk driven choruses. The Folk touch has been empowered with accordion play while the Medieval parts are accentuated by their typical ‘troubadour’ melodies and some Gregorian chants.

The bonus disc features 5 songs, a club edit, remixes and unplugged versions.

+ + + : Tanzwut sounds like Rammstein infected with Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana”, but it first of all is a very singular band with an own approach and sound. They haven’t lost their initial magic and simply move to composing Metal infused with Medieval- and Folk music. That’s why they probably are one of the most original bands from the so-called Neue Deutsche Härte. The last part of the album is great. “Berlin” is a great piece -the city remains a major source of inspiration for numerous artists. But I also have to mention the last cut “Virus” carried by Gregorian chants. Another attention grabber is “Johann”, which sounds more Rammstein-like.

– – – : The bonus disc is a cool edition, but doesn’t brings a true extra. This is just for the heaviest fans.

Conclusion: Tanzwut is still driven by fire and magic!

Gulvøss is a brand new one-person electropop act based in the Nordics and in Berlin. Pushed by Nik Page (Blind Passenger) to release the first material, a first album by Gulvøss aka Sven Wittmiß will be out later in August: “Sinners vs. Saints”.

For the occasion Sven Wittmiß was assisted by producer Thommy Hein who we know from his work with Zeraphine, Peter Heppner, Corvus Corax, Tanzwut, Nina Hagen, Extrabreit, Blind Passengers, Nick Cave, Extrabreit and many others.

A 3rd official videoclip is out now for the track “Walking On Water”.

On 11th and 12th August 2018 the annual M’era-Luna festival takes place in the area of Hildesheim-Drispenstedt, Germany. M’era Luna exists since 2000 and is one of the biggest Gothic festivals in the European scene. Gothic, new wave, electro, EBM, industrial and medieval bands are featured on 2 stages.

Besides watching concerts you can also visit parties, markets, artist signing events, gothic fashion shows, readings by David Grashoff, Markus Heitz and Christian von Aster. The Gothic Garden, an oasis of calm right in front of the festival infield, offers demanding festival-goers comfort, space and conveniences to make your stay more exclusive, pleasant and more relaxing. At the M’era Luna Academy you can follow special workshops which will be announced soon on the official website.

The last years the festival was every time sold out and had about 25.000 visitors.
