Goth pop act Metamorph has a new album out, “Hex”. “Hex” is out via Distortion Productions and comes with the video for the title track.

Distortion Productions has announced the signing of Vermont/NYC goth pop band, Metamorph. The label will release the brand new full length album, “HEX” on March 8th, 2024 with a remix from Grendel.

Label owner, Jim Semonik first recalls meeting Metamorph’s Margot Day at The Unconvention in 2022: “I immediately got a friendly vibe from her and knew there was something special going on. My interest was peaked. Her collaboration with Erik Gustafson makes this a no-brainer. You guys are gonna love this project!”

Gothic pop artist with a witchy flair, Metamorph, is back with a brand-new single titled “Woo Woo”. Accompanying this release is a music video that showcases Metamorph’s Margot Day, who was formerly a member of the iconic 80s NYC Goth band, The Plague. The musical arrangement for “Woo Woo” was crafted by Erik Gustafson (Cleopatra Records and Adoration Destroyed).

Margot Day provides insight into the track, explaining: “We narrate a story set in a tense and precarious world, where the sky seems to be collapsing and cats observe the unfolding drama with eerie fascination. In the midst of the turmoil, there emerges a longing for escape. ‘Woo Woo’ invites listeners on a turbulent journey, where medical cautions fade into a faint backdrop. Background/Info: Metamorph is an American formation featuring front woman Margot Day (previously involved with The Plague). Margot’s daughter Julifer Day joined in as vocalist while Erik Gustafson (Adoration Destroyed) added some guitar, bass and beats while he also produced the work.

Content: “Kiss Of The Witch” features 6 songs plus 2 remixes. The sound brings different influences together; somewhere in between Gothic and Electro-Pop with flute play on top and fragile vocals. One of the songs is an adaptation of an old Plague-track. Remixes have been done by Xris SMack! (Mindswerve) and Spankthenun.

+ + + : I like the singer’s fragile timbre of voice and the somewhat mystic flute parts adding a magical touch to the work. Metamorph is hard to define and definitely has a very own approach. The remix of the title song by Spankthenun is an absolute highlight for its Leather Strip-like bass line and Dark-Pop reminding me of Collide.

– – – :  I sometimes get the feeling this band is still in search of its sound and style. The approach is however interesting.

Conclusion: I’m not totally convinced but this work features intriguing parts.

Out now and ready for Valentine is the brand new video from Metamorph, “Love in the Wreckage”. Featuring Margot Day – who was an integral part of the 80’s NYC underground music scene while fronting the legendary Goth band The Plague – the track was produced by Cleopatra recording artist Erik Gustafson (Adoration Destroyed).

Here’s what Margot Day has to say about the track: “Life in todays’ world is messy and chaotic but I am thrilled to be writing and recording music in the jungle – transmuting the worlds chaos into love. Metamorph Music has always been about change. 2021 was full of so much chaos and pain. But for me there has been a strange undercurrent of joy in the madness. I found myself transforming this emotional intensity into a spiritual awakening. Alone, but not lonely, here in the jungle, writing and creating new songs. These new lyrics and melodies are pouring in like an avalanche. It was a challenge to take on new technology and learn to program music and record my own voice and flute. But the necessity to share with you and the world made me driven to learn and grow and delve deeper than I ever have before. I am grateful to Erik Gustafson for for his musical contributions and brilliant production.”

“Love in the Wreckage” is the first single to drop from the new Metamorph album.

About Margot Day

Margot Day is a singer, flutist, songwriter, and poet who played with the band The Plague in the 80s as part of the underground music scene in New York City. Day also played flute with Slow Walk 13, a conceptual music band, in 1982. In 1987, The Plague released a self-titled album and two years later, the band broke up. Day went on to release an eponymous album in 1997 that echoed work by Yoko Ono. In 1999, she released another album, “Sacred”.

In 2010 her six-piece group mOss circle self-published a self-titled CD. By 2018, she was playing with Kurtis Knight in a duo called Metamorph. 2019 Metamorph expanded to include Anomaly on Bass, Joe Netzel on Drums and Dancers Rivqah Cas and Kitten Mapants.
