Chicago industrial and darkwave artist I Ya Toyah released “Closer”, a cover of the Nine Inch Nails song, on 21 August 2026 through her own label Femme Fatale Records. It is a digital single, and it arrives with a video the same week. On Bandcamp the artist describes the release in a single line: “This is the cover of Nine Inch Nail’s song.”

The original was written by Michael Trent Reznor and appeared on Nine Inch Nails‘ 1994 album “The Downward Spiral”. I Ya Toyah produced this version with Johnny K, who also mixed it. Howie Weinberg mastered the track and Angelica Dulany supplied the artwork. Publishing runs through Leaving Hope Music and TVT Music, with the cover licensed through Easy Song Licensing.

“Closer” is the third single I Ya Toyah has issued through Femme Fatale Records this year, after the two-track “Feelings” on 1 May and “Apology” on 26 June. Johnny K mixed and produced all three, and Howie Weinberg mastered them. Her press release describes the run as a completed trilogy about the forces that shape identity.

The video was filmed and directed by Alex Zarek, who edited it with I Ya Toyah. The concept is hers. Angelica Dulany handled production assistance and additional direction, Janet Debris did makeup and Allison Ciletti managed the location. It went up on her own YouTube channel on 21 August 2026.

The single is on Bandcamp and on the usual streaming services through a single smart link.

About I Ya Toyah

I Ya Toyah is the solo project of Ania Tarnowska, a Polish-born musician, producer and engineer based in the Chicago area. The name comes from Polish, where the spoken phrase reads as “it’s just me”. She trained on classical guitar, piano and voice as a child, studied music business and audio engineering at the SAE Institute in 2016, and started the project in 2017 with the single “Funeral For Love”. The debut album “Code Blue” followed on 26 October 2018, self-released, with the single “Farewell – Mirrors Don’t Lie” alongside it.

The catalogue after that ran quickly. “Code Blue Reloaded” and “Code Blue Revelations” both landed in 2020, the five-part EP “Out of Order” in 2021 and the acoustic EP “Ghosts” in 2022. “Panic Room” arrived in 2023, produced with Walter Flakus of Stabbing Westward, whose US dates she opened that year. Flakus also worked on the “I am the Fire” EP and the album “DRAMA”, both 2024, the year Side-Line covered her video for ‘Fraud’ and talked to her about the new album.

She has been a member of The Joy Thieves since 2019 and toured with Pigface the same year. Remixers and collaborators across the catalogue include Rhys Fulber, who remixed “Flashback” in 2019, Tim Skold, who remixed “Motion” in 2020, and Julian Beeston of Nitzer Ebb, whose “We The People”, “Higher Than The Sun” and “Crazy Horses” all feature her. She has also remixed PIG’s “The New Disorder”. In 2024 she toured the United States with Orgy and Cold and played her first European dates supporting Front Line Assembly, and she returned to Europe in February and March 2026 as direct support on KMFDM’s tour. Femme Fatale Records, her own imprint, has carried her releases since 2024 and now issues “Closer”.

I Ya Toyah, the Chicago industrial artist, released the single “Apology” on June 26, 2026 through her own Femme Fatale Records. The I Ya Toyah “Apology” single arrives with an official video and follows “FEELINGS”, issued in May 2026.

On “Apology”, I Ya Toyah sets heavy guitar riffs and pulsing industrial rhythms under up-front vocals, with piano passages cutting through, working across industrial, rock, electronic and alternative elements. She wrote and composed the track, Johnny K mixed and produced it, and Howie Weinberg mastered it.

I Ya Toyah’s ‘Apology’ single and video

The track turns on a repeated line, “Everyone owes me an apology”, and poses what its press release calls “a deeply uncomfortable question: when does justified pain become entitlement?” The lyric moves between accusation and confession and leaves the narrator’s motive, self-worth or superiority, unresolved.

The video for “Apology” stages the song in an industrial realm built around a steel throne, with I Ya Toyah as a central figure and followers in ritual scenes. The release describes it as drawing on “industrial, gothic, and fetish-inspired visual traditions” and using theatrical symbolism rather than literal storytelling.

“Apology” is available as a digital single on Bandcamp and through streaming services. I Ya Toyah previewed the song on her recent European dates before its release.

About I Ya Toyah

I Ya Toyah is the project of Ania Tarnowska, a musician, composer and producer based in Chicago, USA, born in Łódź, Poland, in 1980. Spoken in Polish, “I Ya Toyah” means “it’s just me”. COP International will release the “Los Angeles – From The Ashes” charity compilation tomorrow. You can already pre-order it now for 10 USD. The release will only be available through Bandcamp.

The devastating fires in Los Angeles also destroyed “one of the most vibrant artist communities in the world” so COP International’s Christian says. “Many of our friends, collaborators, and fellow artists were displaced, with some losing everything. Among those deeply affected was Louise Fraser of Muricidae Music, a beloved COP International artist, who lost her home in the tragedy. In the face of this devastation, we knew we had to take action. I Ya Toyah says this about the new video: “Fraud is a dance-floor anthem with a dark twist. It blends soft vocals, intense screams, synthwave, alt rock and dubstep, creating a unique clash of upbeat rhythms and serious lyrics. This track will have you dancing away your imposter syndrome!”

The Finnish dark coldwave artist Suzi Sabotage has signed with the German label Out Of Line Music. She now announces her sophomore album “Succubus” to be released later in 2022. The next single, “I Am The Storm”, will be out on the 21st of July 2022. The album will contain her previously-released single “Persona Non Grata” along with several tracks in Finnish that have distinct neofolk influences, and remixes of the singles by various artists.

The album is a follow-up to her debut album titled “Postmodern Dystopia”, which was released on the 7th of May 2021 on CD via the Polish label Bat-Cave Productions.

Suzi Sabotage, a dark coldwave solo artist from Helsinki, Finland, brings synth punk with a danceable touch. Some of her songs also feature the Finnish national instrument, kantele, creating a crossover between dark synth and neofolk. She’s previously known as the vocalist of the post-punk band Masquerade and the keyboardist of the deathrock band Virgin In Veil and has musically collaborated with such acts as I Ya Toyah, Aux Animaux, Neila Invo, Cult Of Alia, and Selfishadows.

So far she has toured in Iceland (with Kælan Mikla at Brennuöld Festival), Estonia (Tallinn Music Week 2021), The United Kingdom (at Club Dead And Buried in London), along with a few shows in her native city Helsinki. The album’s release will be celebrated at Out Of Line’s event on the 28th of January 2023 at Lido, Berlin, Germany.

Out now is the brand new COP International Records compilation “Broken Hearts & Robot Parts II” featuring contributions from Stoneburner, Joy Thieves, I Ya Toyah, Silverwalks and Sick Jokes. COP artists Stabbing Westward and Black Needle Noise also contribute remixes. This is the second edition of the label’s regular album compilation series.

Waterloo, Iowa based electro-Industrial band Microwaved has just unleashed their new EP, “Save Me”. The video for the title track featuring Kimberley of Bow Ever Down can be seen below.

The EP contains 16 tracks, 14 of which will be available on streaming platforms June 12th. The Bandcamp release – which you can check out right below – will contain two bonus tracks: a collaboration with Liebchen on a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb” and an additional remix from the remix artist Steven Olaf.

The Ep sees the band collaborating with Kimberley of Bow Ever Down as we said earlier but also with Nathan of Milkfixer and Mitch of Doomslayer. Save Me also has many different remixes from varying artists starting with PilgrimOmega (keyboard player for Monster Voodoo Machine) to I Ya Toyah and SpankTheNun plus many of the friends that founder Gabe Wilkinson has made through the years.

“Save Me” refers to the album’s theme of loss. Gabe Wilkinson, the founder of Microwaved says: “All of my songs seem to be about loss, addiction or monsters. These songs fall into the loss of love category. This record for me is also about taking these songs and expanding my musical vocabulary. It’s about stretching some mental muscles and playing with ideas I may not have been very comfortable with.”

I Ya Toyah is a Chicago-based DIY independent musician who in her music blends cutting edge vocals, surreal guitars, hypnotizing beats and multiple electronic synth elements into dark arrangements. Her first single immediately caught our attention and so does this new track.
