Along with the EP “Undertaker”, the EP “Hatefeeder” by Swedish artist Martin Rudefelt (Cryo) has also been re-released on Scanner.

And just like “Undertaker”, this EP is a hit as well. We are treated to four tracks, plus an additional remix and an alternative mix. Rudefelt delivers recognizable EBM, but in a format crafted with care and intelligence. The tracks sound dark, yet remain highly danceable. These pieces lean even more toward classic EBM and are primarily driven by dark, aggressive basslines. Gamma Vortex builds a spooky, atmospheric universe on top of this foundation. The vocals are sometimes delivered in a half-spoken style, which adds to the ominous mood. At times, the whole thing reminds me of an imaginary mix between Front Line Assembly and Vomito Negro. The remix by Negant is also impressive, as is the alternative version of “Tear.”

In my opinion, Gamma Vortex is one of the hottest newcomers in the vast EBM landscape, and I’m very curious to see what the future will bring. (Rating:8½).

Gamma Vortex is the solo EBM project of Swedish musician Martin Rudefelt, known for his work in Cryo and Sound Sequence. Under the Gamma Vortex name he moves toward dark, danceable EBM, and to date the project has issued the EPs “Hatefeeder” and “Undertaker” alongside the full-length “Painfather”.

“Hatefeeder” was re-released on Scanner, the Dark Dimensions imprint, as a digital EP with four tracks plus a remix by Negant and an alternative mix. The companion EP “Undertaker” was reissued on Scanner in the same batch.

Gamma Vortex is a Swedish solo project by Martin Rudefelt, best known for his work with Cryo. “Undertaker” is an EP originally released in 2024 on Dungeon Production and re-released in late 2025 on Scanner.

Musically, Gamma Vortex has little in common with Cryo. This is dark EBM, situated somewhere between Frontline Assembly and Yelworc. There’s a perfect balance of power and atmosphere, particularly on the two opening tracks. The vocals have a ghostly quality, yet remain commanding and impactful. In addition to the four original tracks, the EP includes two excellent remixes by Bagger 258 and TUKT, adding fresh perspectives to the material.

I wasn’t familiar with Gamma Vortex before, but “Undertaker” proved to be a very compelling EP that I can highly recommend. (Rating:8).
