Genre/Influences: Dark-electro.

Background/Info: Björn Miethe (vocals) and Daniel Gosewisch (machines) are System Noire. This German duo previously released a few EP’s (“On The Other Side” was released on DarkTunes Music group) and has now unleashed their official debut full length.

Content: The music is clearly inspired by dark-electro standards. They clearly pay some attention to achieve simple, but carrying melody lines. The album is alternating mainly dark-electro driven cuts and a few softer cuts. I also noticed a few instrumentals.

System Noire also likes to work with guests. They already did it on their debut single “On The Other Side” featuring Henrik Iversen (NamNamBulu) and now composed a song together with SynthAttack while other songs are featuring Unterschicht and Alien Nation. Remixes have been done by Ruined Conflict, XMH and ES23.

+ + + : This band deals with a rather easy and somewhat simplistic dark-electro format, which is however rather pleasant to listen to. The harder cuts definitely are the best ones and I especially want to mention “Voices” featuring Unterschicht and “Viaie Introspectivo feat. Alien Nation”. The melodic side of the songs is a noticeable element. I here want to tip “I Believe” as most essential piece. The remixes of Ruined Conflict and ES23 both are attention grabbers.

– – – : The few softer cuts can’t really convince me. But the main element the band maybe has to reconsider is to elaborate their songs. It sometimes sounds a bit too simple-minded.

Conclusion: System Noire’s debut album is not what I would call a fully successful opus although there are a few interesting cuts that will get you dancing. I think there’s more potential in this band than what came out on this work.

Genre/Influences: Industrial-medieval, dark-electro.

Background/Info: Pedro- and Nadine Engel got mainly recognized as the terrific Acylum-duo, but they’re also involved with a few more projects. Totem Obscura last year released its second album “Nordische Feste”. The duo now strikes back with this EP featuring Hubert Kah on the title song. Hubert Kah worked together with Michael Cretu and was also involved in the legendary Sandra hit “Maria Magdalena”.

Content: This is more than simply an ‘extended play’ as it features 16 (!) songs, which are mainly remixes from the title track plus 4 more songs that were originally released on “Nordische Feste”.

The debut song is an “Extended Version” of “Helden”, which brings us back to the medieval and dark-electro style of the album. It also has something cabaret-like. Remixes have been done by Acylum and HausHetaere (both featuring the Engel gang), but also by Nano Infect, Ilia Romashov, Restriction 9 and Ethan Fawkes.

“Blut Marschiert”, “Eisenmann”, “Bastard” and “Verräter” have been remixed as well while you also get a remix of the “Waldgeist”-song (originally released on the band’s debut work “Forgotten Time”). The most noticeable bands from the list are Mechanical Moth, XMH, Omnimar and Synapsyche.

+ + + : Totem Obscura tries to intermix medieval atmospheres with dark-electronics and I’ve to admit it’s a rather original idea. It sometimes reminds me a bit of Heimataerde, but in the end it simply sounds different and Totem Obscura-like. This EP doesn’t reveal that much new except for a real sonic orgy of remixes. I like the “Helden”-demo version vs. HausHetaere, which sounds original and featuring great chants passages. Other noticeable remixes are the “Eisenmann”-remix by Omnimar, which has been empowered by guitar riffs and the great “Endzeit Edit” of “Waldgeist”.  Restriction 9 also did a noticeable minimal-like remix of “Helden” while the most surprising remix is for sure the dark-techno version of the title song by Ethan Fawkes.

– – – : You have to be a die-hard fan of the band to fully endure this 16-tracks EP. Too many remixes here, but probably not for DJ’s.

Conclusion: I still believe there’s more potential inside Totem Obscura than what came out on “Nordische Feste” and this EP. I think they still have to find the right balance between the influences. I however have to admit there are a few really cool remixes featured.

Genre/Influences: Minimal-electro.

Background/Info: Implant doesn’t need a further introduction. After their visionary latest album “Oxynoxe-X” revealing the Belgian formation experimenting with analogue gear (especially on the limited album) they strike back with a song taken from the regular full length.

Content: “Oxynoxe” wasn’t my favorite cut from the album although it’s a creative piece of electronic minimalism. Implant in a way has reinvented their sound resulting in a more minimal/experimental approach. It also is a sound inspired by vintage electronics and the fans of Jean Michel Jarre will be pleased to hear a creative, but contemporary artist following the footsteps of their hero. Next to the title song, there also is “Oxynoxe-R”, which is a little bit more pop-driven and still very danceable.

Remixes have been made by Metroland, Karl Hefner & Hugh Lagerfeld, Super Dragon Punch!!, XMH and Chemical Sweet Kid.

+ + + : What I always have liked with Implant is the particular care for sound creation and the global creative approach of Len Lemaire. But on his latest album he simply excels in this never ending quest to create unique sound treatments. I think a band like Implant simply had to experience one day with analogue synthesizers and this work simply reveals the sound architect hiding in this musician. Implant has built a sonic bridge between vintage electronics with a wink to JM Jarre and contemporary electronics. I also have to mention the very inspiring remix of Metroland while the remix by Karl Hefner & Hugh Lagerfeld reveals the minimalistic and visionary approach of this duo.

– – – : There’s a noticeable diversity between the remixes, but I’m not convinced by the kind of hard-core experiment by Chemical Sweet Kid.

Conclusion: Implant confirms the strong potential of the latest album and I can only hope the band will now go experimenting with good-old retro equipment.

Genre/Influences: Electro-pop, indie-pop.

Background/Info: Junksista Duo Diana S. and Boog are back on track and have unleashed their fourth full length album in five years. A few artists such as LayZee (Mr. President), Noemi Aurora (Helalyn Flowers), Emke (Black Nail Cabaret) and Erlend Eilersten (Essence Of Mind) have been invited on a few songs with guest vocals.

Content: The first (and regular) disc features 12 new cuts revealing the particular electro-pop approach Junksista has always deal with. It’s an pop format sometimes mixed with minimalistic elements, but also moving on the edge of indie music. Junksista is also in for some experiments such as Monster” featuring rap vocals by LayZee.

The bonus disc featured at the limited edition features 12 extra songs, which are remixes by Psy’Aviah, Metroland, Kant Kino, Ananel’s Voices vs. At0shima 3rr0r, Wasserkraft Manifest, T-Error Machinez, Space March, Technolorgy, Nerd Revolt, XMH and 2 remixes by Flesh Eating Foundation.

+ + + : Junksista has gained their success and reputation because they have their own style, which often was linked to punk meeting pop music. This new opus is less punk-like, but still revealing a proper sound DNA. It’s a well-crafted composition moving in between minimalism and even experimentalism at one side and indie-music at the other side. There are great sound treatments featured on this work, but I especially like the menacing bass lines from “Love Makes People Stupid”. I also like the duo vocals featuring Diana S. and Noemi on “Celebration Fornication”. Among the remixes I especially recommend the work accomplished by Psy’Aviah, Metroland and Space March.

– – – : Junksista remains a very particular experience in sound, but I regret they’ve lost a bit of their original naughty and punkish sound. This work sounds ‘softer’ while I personally prefer their darker and harder work from the early years.

Conclusion: Far away from the classical electro-pop standards and clearly sounding like a solid antidote to the numerous Depeche Mode clones, “Promiscuous Tendencies” is a shocking title for an intriguing band although this new work is not my favorite one!

Best songs: “Celebration Fornication”, “Freak At Heart”, “Control”, “Bitch This Is My Party” + “Love Makes People Stupid – Psy’Aviah Remix”, “Freak At Heart – Metroland’s Art Of Bleep Remix”.

Genre/Influences: Industrial-pop & electro-clash, minimal-pop;

Background/Info: Junksista can be considered as one of the hottest Alfa Matrix singings in the past few years. After having released 2 full lengths and an impressive number of (mainly digital) EP’s Boog and Diana have a new mini-album (cf. “American Love Story”) in the pipeline. It was composed for a horror short-movie while this EP is meant as a teaser.

Content: The title song is a terrific piece of visionary electronic-pop music. The sounds are totally industrialized injecting a real raw sound to the work and yet, it remains pretty pop-like and danceable. The familiar sexy vocals by Diana are once more bringing the temperature above the boiling point.

There also is a somewhat funky-minded B-side song plus 4 remixes of “Trust No Bitch”. The remixes are pretty diversified and all attention grabbers. I’m especially into the more sophisticated approach of Venal Flesh and the Kraftwerk-wink of Dekad, but XMH and Restriction 9 did a noticeable job as well.

↑↑↑: This is precisely what I expect from an EP: a great title song, an honest B-side and a couple of great remixes! The industrial pop format of “Trust No Bitch” sounds genius.

↓↓↓: The B-side song “C.S.F.” is not the most representative one, but probably had its place on an EP.

Conclusion: Don’t trust Junksista if you need classical electro-pop music! This band is an alien and an antidote to established standards, which will rapidly contaminate you by the magic quote: “Trust No Bitch”!

Out now is the newest EP from the German electro dance formation Junksista: “Trust No Bitch”. The title track is a rather infective song pushed by a slo-mo dark beat and the frontwoman’s politically incorrect lyrics and it’s our guess that it will find its entry in the best clubs in no time. For those who loved their hit single “Life is unfair (and love is a bitch)” – and many did – this new single is an absolute must!

The single comes after 2 full length albums and a plethora of EP’s/singles. The “Trust No Bitch3 EP from the controversial German duo is taken from the band’s forthcoming mini-album “American Love Story” which is the soundtrack that Junksista scored for the award winning horror short film by talented director Timur Örge (Mumukuba). The song also got reworked in 4 radically different versions by the cyber industrial act XMH, the terror hellektro Venal Flesh, the ambient techno Restriction 9 as well as the edgy synth electro band Dekad.

Also added to this single is the exclusive self-bashing song “C.S.F.”. Available now for download on Bandcamp.

Genre/Influences: Future-pop, dark-electro, aggrotech.

Content: This is the 3rd EP taken from the last year released album “In Your Face” by XmH. “Snakes” reveal the “Album Version” of the song plus 4 remixes and 2 more remixed songs.

“Snakes” was not exactly my favorite song on the album although it’s a fully enjoyable and danceable cut featuring the main ingredients “In Your Face” has been made of. This is a powerful and dark future-pop driven composition, which appears to be a kind of pass key to dancefloors.

Among remixes of the title song I especially want to fix your attention to the remix of Benjamin’s Plague, which is revealing great electronic skills accentuating the song with some cool sequences and extra bleeps. XmH’s new-signed label mates of Venal Flesh did a fantastic job as well. I also have to mention the hard and pumping remix by K-Bereit revealing extra female backing vocals.

Among the two other remixes song I have to tip the remix of “Forever” by ‘old’ Belgian servants of The Arch. I expected a bit more out of the remix of “The Business” (one of my favorite songs of the album) by Betamorphose.

Conclusion: “Snakes” is not exactly my favorite EP taken from the “In Your Face”-album, but it’s a way to rediscover some songs of this opus a different way. Time now for new work!
