Metropolis recording artists Nøir are set to release a Bandcamp exclusive single entitled “Just Fascination”. The song, originally released by the pioneering Cabaret Voltaire in 1983, was reworked by Nøir and later remixed by We Are Temporary, Push Button Press and Aeon Rings.

Nøir, whose previous release was the 2019 EP “A Pleasure”, are in the process of assembling their next studio album. The single, which is currently available on Bandcamp, has an official street date of January 5th, 2021 and can be previewed, downloaded for free or purchased here:

Genre/Influences: Electro-pop.

Background/Info: Brooklyn based We Are Temporary took me by surprise on the first official album entitled “Crossing Over”. Miles away from the usual and boring electro-pop clichés the project driven by Mark Roberts revealed an own approach in electro-pop made of intelligence. The artist is now back on track unleashing “Embers”.

Content: The very own approach in writing electro-pop like songs hasn’t changed. “Embers” deals with a refreshing pop format, which sounds more into reverie instead of dance music. It often gives me a ‘feel-good’ feeling although I noticed a few cuts, which are more into drama. “Embers” has it all and once again seduces by refined bleeping treatments and well-crafted compositions.

+ + + : When you already know the band, you can’t get a similar surprise as on “Crossing Over”, but the music again reveals a clever approach characterized by an own sound DNA. It’s a clean and polished production driven by sensual vocal parts. The songs progressively build up without ending into a complex format. I especially enjoyed the somewhat mysterious and even esoteric-like “Echoes” while I also have to recommend “Medication”, which moves on crescendo and features cool female backing vocals. The digipak format is cool and hypnotic.

– – – : Speaking for myself I definitely prefer the debut album. Maybe it all was because I just discovered this band, but I got the feeling there were more highlights on the previous work. This new work is maybe a little less too sweet.

Conclusion: I like the spirit running through “Embers”, but I’m missing an appropriated body… Don’t get me wrong, this is cool and elegant electro-pop, but it might sound a little less raw and naughty.

Best songs: “Echoes”, “Medication”, “Polyamory”, “Earth”.

“Akkretion” is the title of the newest Project Pitchfork album which will be out in early 2018. The album is the first part of a new trilogy. “Akkretion” will be followed-up by “Fragment” and “Elysium” in the upcoming months.

The album will be released as a normal CD, but also as a hardcover 2CD book (which can be ordered right here).

Background/Info: We are Temporary was set in 2013 by Brooklyn – New York based artist Mark Roberts. After a couple of digital releases the band signed with Trisol. The German label is not that really often signing new bands so I think it can be really seen as a consecration for We Are Temporary to have joined Trisol.

Content: I discovered a fine and alluring electro-pop driven work, which sometimes reminds me a bit of a hybrid between IAMX and The Northern Territories. “Crossing Over” sounds delicate and carried by precise melodies and judicious crystalline bleeping sequences. The songs are dreamy-like, but supported with a dark flavor.

The slow rhythms accentuates the emotional content and more especially its melancholic side.

+ + + : We Are Temporary took me by surprise. This is electro-pop music with a different approach although holding on the familiar and faithful melancholic taste of electro-pop music. The main differences come through in the global sound production and the sexy vocals. There’s a delicious sensual taste mixed with darkness and driven by a slow cadence. The already evoked crystalline sound sculptures evoke some fragility, but also a beautiful and delicate element. The album features a few potential hits such as “You Can Now Let Go” and “Remember Our Light”, but also multiple beautiful songs. I’ve to mention “Give Me More”, which is probably the darkest cut, but still “Prism”.

– – – : The mix of the vocals sometimes is a little bit too much at the forefront so you don’t always clearly hear the little details from the music behind. I also regret that some tracks are maybe a little bit too short.

Conclusion: We Are Temporary is a great new coming band and I dare to say a relief among the army of Depeche Mode clones active in the synth-pop scene. This is a band with a unique sound and simply intelligent in its global approach.

Best songs: “You Can Now Let Go”, “Remember Our Light”, “Give Me More”, “Prism”, “Let’s Fall Silent”.
