Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: Only a few months after the ‘come-back’ album “Nightfall” Torturetekk is back with a new work. Sean Athamay (music) and Lisa J (vocals) bring us seven new songs plus two remixes.

Content: The sound formula of this new opus is totally comparable to “Nightfall”, but the only difference is that the songs are more mature. The compositions feature elements of Dark-Wave and Techno-Body music with some Cyber-Goth elements on top. Lisa J now and then injects a sensual touch to the work.

+ + + : This album is much more accomplished than its predecessor. Torturetekk is definitely back! The songs are more worked out, featuring some Techno sequences while empowering guitar riffs are more noticeable as well. “Adrenaline” and “I Am” both are refreshing tracks. There’s also something to say about both remixes. “Electric” which was originally featured at the band’s debut album (cf. “Revelling In Perversion”) is a cool Techno-Body song while “Deliverance” (featured on their previous album) got a serious boost with a sensual touch on top.I also got the feeling Lisa J felt more comfortable singing on this album.

– – – : Even if the sound mix and –production are much better, I think it remains the main element to improve.

Conclusion: If you want to discover Torturetekk you’d better try this album first; cool Cyber-Goth-Electro-Technoid-Wave!

Best songs: “Electric – Tomb Raver Mix”, “I Am…”, “Deliverance – Tomb Raver Mix”, “Adrenaline”, “Fragile”.

Rate: 7½ .

About Torturetekk

Torturetekk is a British dark electro project started as a side project of the electro-goth band Athamay, whose debut album “Pleasure Of Sin” appeared in the mid-1990s with Jess Highmoor on vocals. According to the Discogs profile, Sean Athamay first wrote the tracks “Electric” and “Escaping” for compilations with guest vocalists before the other Athamay members joined. The album “Revelling In Perversion” was released on Plastic Whore Records in 2000 and reissued digitally in 2020 through Midian Studios.

Sean revived the project in 2019 with Jo of Athamay on additional synths and Lisa J as the new singer. The digital singles “Win Your Love” and “Deliverance” preceded the album Nightfall, released on 31 October 2020 as a CDr on Midian Studios and as a download. “Tomb Raver” followed on 9 April 2021 as a CDr mini-album in a digipak and as a download. The nine tracks are “Listen”, “Adrenaline”, “Philosophical Child”, “Dogs Of War”, “Deeper”, “Fragile”, “I Am…”, “Deliverance (Tomb Raver Mix)” and “Electric (Tomb Raver Mix)”; Sean wrote the music and Lisa J the lyrics.

Athamay itself returned in 2025 with “The Crucifixion And The Resurrection”, introducing Marlen Moysidou on vocals, and issued Necropolis through Midian Studios in 2026, reviewed on Side-Line in July 2026. “Tomb Raver” is the most recent Torturetekk release listed on Discogs.

Format: Digital, CD.

Background/Info: British Torturetekk was originally set up as a side-project to Athamay. They released the album “Revelling In Perversion”, which remained their single opus till Sean and Jo brought the band back to life in 2019. Lisa J became the new singer and they released “Nightfall” by the end of 2020.

Content: It’s nearly impossible comparing this album with its predecessor although there’s a similar taste for simple, but dark atmospheric Electronics. Mixing elements of Electro-Wave and Cyber-Goth, the songs have a melodic- and danceable touch. Some passages have been accentuated by guitar riffs. Lisa J has a totally different timbre of voice than the former singer Jess Highmoor. The album also features 2 cover versions; one of NIN (cf. “Closer”) and the other of Eurythmics’ (cf. “Sweet Dreams”).

+ + + : I first of all salute the comeback of this band. I’d the honor to write some lyrics for their debut album so it’s with great pleasure I discovered this new work. I personally like the last part of the album revealing a few more elaborated and punchy songs. “Win Your Love Club Mix” is a pretty efficient dancefloor cut. I also have to mention “Falling For You”, which sound-wise reminds me of Athamay.

– – – : The sound mixing is rather poor and somewhat undermining the global production. The songs are also missing some elaboration –except the last songs.

Conclusion: It’s great to see Torturetekk back in business, but this work is not exactly a major success.

Best songs: “Win Your Love Club Mix”, “Faling For You”, “Alpha One”.

Rate: 6.

Midian Studios reissued it digitally in 2020 with videos for “Electric”, “Escaping” and “Falling”.

Sean resurrected the project in 2019, with Jo of Athamay adding synths and Lisa J taking over vocals.
