Berlin-based producer and modular synthesist JakoJako (aka Sibel Koçer) has released “Dragon Bridge”, the latest single from her upcoming album “Tết 41”, due out 25 April 2025 via Mute on limited edition vinyl and digital formats.

The track takes its name from Cầu Rồng, Da Nang’s 666-meter-long suspension bridge that breathes fire and water on weekends. Koçer wrote the track during her time in Vietnam in 2024 – the Year of the Dragon: “I wrote this track in Da Nang on the day the Dragon Bridge spit fire,” says Koçer. “It was spectacular. After watching, we went home, and I wrote that tune.”

The 10-track album “Tết 41” is inspired by Koçer’s first trip to Vietnam with her mother. Created entirely with a Eurorack system and Waldorf Iridium Core, the album discards computer-based sequencing in favor of tactile improvisation. Added as well at the beginning and the end are field recordings of audio from the Tết festivities.

Here’s a release to look out for! Berlin-based modular synthesist JakoJako (aka Sibel Koçer) has announced details of a new album, her first for Mute. “Tết 41” is set for release on limited edition vinyl and digitally on 25 April 2025. But first we get the single “Lì xì“.

“Tết 41” was recorded in Vietnam during the Tết Lunar New Year celebrations and reflects “on notions of rebirth, and the pursuit of a sonic core” so she says. The album was created with a minimal hardware set up, on just a Eurorack and a Waldorf Iridium Core. “The more you play with a single machine the more you get to know it. You’ll get muscle memory and play it more like an actual instrument, instead of treating it as a tool.”

Koçer explains: “I wanted to collect the atmospheres of Vietnam, and strip it back to my language – electronic music. I don’t have huge ties to the traditions of my Vietnamese family, so being able to experience them with my mother, and then bring the Lunar Celebration – the colourful flowers, food and customs – back to Europe through music has helped me realise how important this side of my heritage is.”

The first track released from the album is “Lì xì” (Vietnamese translation: “Lucky money”, usually referring the red envelopes gifted at Lunar New Year, today that is).

(Photo by Marco Krueger) Berlin based modular synthesist and DJ JakoJako, aka Sibel Koçer, has shared the first track, “Modus”, from her new four-track “Segmente” EP, set for release via NovaMute on 26 July 2024. All four tracks on this new upcoming EP originated in her live shows.

The new EP follows the “Verve” EP, her debut for Mute, a full length album, “Metamorphos” (2022, Bigamo) and her collaboration with Rødhåd, “In Vere” (2022, WSNWG), both of which came hot on the heels of two remixes for Mute – New Order’s “Be A Rebel” and Martin Gore’s “Vervet”.

Koçer started her career working with modular systems and patch cables. Her studies soon progressed into performing regular live sets in Berlin, a Berghain Residency and a position at Berlin electronic music institution, SchneidersLaden.

In recent years she has been involved in several motion sensor dance projects with dancers at Superbooth and Kraftwerk Berlin, and has performed at the Royal Albert Hall with Bonobo, and at the Barbican in London with an improvised ‘Circle Of Live’ performance that featured dance and a specially commissioned art installation.

(Photo by Travis Shinn) Following the release of “The Third Chimpanzee” earlier this year, Martin Gore (Depeche Mode) has announced he will release “The Third Chimpanzee Remixed”, a collection of remixes and re-workings. The remix release will be out August 20 on Mute via a limited edition double colored vinyl, CD, and digital platforms.

The second track from the release is a remix of “Vervet” by techno DJ and fellow Mute artist, Chris Liebing. Listen to Liebing’s remix below.

The first taste of “The Third Chimpanzee Remixed” came in February from Brazil’s ANNA, who opens the release with a mix of “Howler” which was included in recent BBC 6Music and BBC Radio 1 mixes. The special edition also sees remixes from artists including JakoJako, Jlin, Kangding, Rrose, Wehbba, The Exaltics, MoReVoX, and Barker.

New Order just released “Be a Rebel (Arthur Baker Remix)”, the latest in the series of versions of their single. For this new remix, the band is rejoined by Arthur Baker (Afrika Bambaataa, Soulsonic). When he first worked with New Order in 1983, it was the band’s first work with a collaborator and the sessions in New York spawned New Order classics “Thieves Like Us” and “Confusion”.

At the same time the band also announced a “Be a Rebel” remix double 12” and CD, which bring together all 11 remixes of the track, out on 27 August 2021. Also added to the 12 inch and CD releases are unreleased remixes by two new artists: Berlin based modular synthist JakoJako and from Maceo Plex’s label, Ellum recording artist Melawati.

In December, the band put out “Be A Rebel (Remixes Part One)”, a collection of three reworkings of the song from DJs Paul Woolford and Maceo Plex as well as New Order’s Bernard Sumner (Outlaw Mix). Mark Reeder’s Dirty Devil Remix was released in February and joins Stephen Morris’ T34, Bernard Sumner’s (Renegade Spezial Edit), and all the other remixes and original mixes compiled on the CD single.

On 7 May, New Order release “Education Entertainment Recreation (Live at Alexandra Palace)” on album and film. It was their only UK show of 2018 (9 November) at London’s Alexandra Palace and the first live show released on Blu-Ray from the band’s now established line-up of Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris, Gillian Gilbert, Phil Cunningham and Tom Chapman.
