Lords Of Acid has announced that they will be returning stateside with their ‘Make Acid Great Again Tour’. The act will be joined by Aesthetic Perfection, Praga Khan and MXMS March 13th in Los Angeles, CA, with the tour circling through the US, wrapping up April 15th in San Francisco, CA.

Lords of Acid is a Belgian/ American electronic music group, led by musician Praga Khan. They debuted with the new beat single “I Sit on Acid” in 1988. Created by Praga Khan, Olivier Adams, and Jade 4U; their debut album, 1991’s “Lust” (along with additional singles “Rough Sex” and “I Must Increase My Bust”) got notorious for their sexual lyrics and sound samples. Their second album was “Voodoo-U” (1994), which featured a more industrial sound. This was followed by “Our Little Secret” (1997), “Heaven Is an Orgasm” (1998) and “Expand Your Head” (1999). In 2000 they released a more rock-influenced album titled “Farstucker” and in 2003 the band released a greatest hits album called “Greatest T*ts”.

Then it became silent around the band until 8 years later a new EP, “Little Mighty Rabbit”, emerged. The new album, “Deep Chills”, was released on 10 April 2012. After that it again took 6 years of studio silence until “Pretty in Kink” saw the light of day in 2018.

Lords of Acid has announced the lineup for their upcoming ‘Pretty in Kink’ tour 2019. Joining Praga Khan, will be guitarist Sin Quirin (Ministry, 3 Headed Snake), bassist Dietrich Thrall (Beauty in the Suffering, Doyle), drummer Galen Waling (Pig, Julien-K) and vocalist Marieke Bresseleers.

Background/Info: Exactly 30 years after their creation and the legendary hit “I Sit On Acid” Belgian techno-phenomenon Lords Of Acid is back. “Pretty In Kink” is the band’s first new album since the rather disappointing “Deep Chills” (2012). Maurice Engelen aka ‘Praga Khan’ and core member Erhan Kurkun have been joined by new singer Marieke Bresseleers.

Content: The album features 12 songs, which quickly sounds like a move back to the roots. Is it because of the rather disappointing previous album or just an intentional move to go back to early Lords Of Acid music, but “Pretty In Kink” sounds old-styled. Industrial-techno with some punk on top is the essence of this work. The good-old breakbeats have been recovered from dust while the lyrical content and global image of the band remains pretty sexy and provocative.

“Pretty In Kink” sounds pretty diversified. There’s a song featuring Spanish male vocals while there’s also a rapper featured on another cut and a very personal interpretation of the “James Bond” song “Goldfinger”. Lords Of Acid are back with the best exponents from the past.

+ + + : This is an album you’re going to like or not. Some will say it’s just an easy and cheap emulation from their early and successful sound formula, but I think it’s just a good album featuring several cool songs. It clearly has a retro-touch, which mainly comes through in the techno arrangements, but here still is this power and ‘punk’ attitude. I also have to say a word about the new vocalist who’s a real talented artist. Her timbre of voice sometimes reminds me to Jade 4U. This album gets us back to early industrial-techno music, but also to early Prodigy and Praga Khan.

– – – : Innovation is far to find and we might expect a bit more creativity from a band that doesn’t release new stuff on regular basis. And the good-old Lords Of Acid remains much better and visionary than this “Pretty In Kink”.

Conclusion: In times of recycling, even Lords Of Acid are re-using good-old ingredients, which have made them famous. It’s not original although I like this work. I must be nostalgic!

Best songs: “So Goddamn Good”, “My Demons Are Inside”, “Break Me”, “What The Fuck”, “Goldfinger”, “Ma Fille De Joie”.

“Lust” is the debut album by Belgian electronic band Lords of Acid. Originally released in 1991 “Lust” spawned a series of club hits. As the album’s title implies, the tracks touch upon various sexually-related topics, complimented by hardcore techno/new beat/rave electronica sound.

The album is being released as a 2LP vinyl set (available here) and also as a CD (available here) both also featuring B-sides from the album’s singles.

Out by mid-May is a best of Lords of Acid titled “Smoking Hot”. The 11 tracks on the album were picked by Maurice Engelen (aka Praga Khan) and were taken from the 5 studio albums the project released so far, including from the project’s last album “Deep Chills” (2012). It’s not the first time the band sees a bed of released, in 2003, after being in the business for 15 years, they released a greatest hits album called “Greatest T*ts”.

Genre/Influences: Nu-metal, breakbeats.

Content: Nervenbeisser is a German band set up by Olaf Seider. I’m sure it will be hard to keep the title of the album in mind for non-Germans, but I can assure you “Geschlechterschlacht” is worthy of examination. This is a rather surprising work as it concerns a re-release of an album that was originally released in 2004 by ZYX-Music. So this is an opportunity to (re)discover this somewhat forgotten album.

Olaf Seider mixes interesting influences together, which sound a bit like an offspring between Rammstein and The Prodigy. It’s a strange and powerful hybrid driven by energetic and often breakbeat-minded beats while the furious guitar playing reveals the metal inspiration. The global production is achieved by great electronic treatments. The electronic element of the work also is a main aspect and not just a detail. All those elements together create an explosive fusion, which you can hear in several songs.

“Feuerteufel” is without a shadow of a doubt, my favorite. It sounds like it symbolizes an ultimate symbiosis between the different sources of inspiration while it will maybe appeal to fans of Rammstein. I think there’s no better song than “Feuerteufel” to get an idea about the sound creation of Nervenbeisser. I also have to mention songs like “Genug Ist Genug” and “Prinz Der Nacht”. The last mentioned track also reveals a great harmony between the rough male vocals and female backings reminding me a bit of Jade 4U (Praga Khan). The female vocals inject a kind of sexy, but sterile touch.

This album clearly evokes the influence of Rammstein, but “Geschlechterschlacht” sounds sexier because of its rhythmic and electronic arrangements.

Conclusion: This album is a real nice surprise, which in my opinion has the potential to appeal to a wider audience than only German speaking fans. The main basis of the work is inspired by familiar influences, but mixed together to get a refreshing sound.

Best songs: “Feuerteufel”, “Deine Angst”, “Genug Ist Genug”, “Prinz Der Nacht”Fileg Mit Mir”, “Nervenbeisser”.
