Out now via SkyQode is “Embryogenesis”, a new EP release by the electronic rock artist, Enhok.

The digital version of “Embryogenesis” consists of six tracks including the previously released singles. The whole EP is a perfect demonstration of Enhok’s sound fusing elements of rock and dark electronica.

The CD version of “Embryogenesis”, limited to only 150 copies, comes in a slick 6-panel digipak with lyrics. It also features five remixes by Elezoria, Last Activity, Purple Fog Side, Requiem4FM and Synthetische Lebensform.

Enhok was founded by the Venezuelan artist Diego Gutierrez currently based in Barcelona, Spain.

Out via the fine label SkyQode is the newest Enhok single “Gone”. You can check out the single below. In addition to the title track, the single features two diverse remixes by Synthetische Lebensform and Requiem4FM.

The artist behind this electronic / rock act is Diego Gutierrez, a Venezuelan musician, singer and producer, currently based in Spain. He debuted with the single “Black Waters” and on this new single combines melodic synth lines, melancholic piano parts and distorted industrial synths. Add to that Diego’s rather melancholic vocals and you have an idea what to expect.

Genre/Influences: Electro-pop.

Background/Info: Dark-O-Matic duo was set up in 2017 by Greg Dovas and later on joined by singer Piero Delux. After a few singles Dark-O-Matic has released its debut album featuring ten songs plus four remixes (featured on the CD edit).

Content: I’m used to hearing electro-pop releases on the Russian label SkyQode. Dark-O-Matic is for sure a new formation dealing with good-old synth-pop music, but it’s only the basis of their work. The production has been something different, which sometimes reminds me of Moloko. The vocals have something charismatic while the music brings melancholic tunes.

Remixes were created by Unity One, Requiem4FM, People Theatre and Purple Fog Side.

+ + + : Globally speaking, this album features a well-crafted song production. The songs are accomplished and mixed with a clean, but great vocals’ production. The three previously released singles have been featured, but my favorite song is “All We Do Is Wait” featuring great sequences. Among the remixes I have to mention the great job done by Unity One and People Theatre both with a remix of “Zugzwang”. 

– – – : If you already know the previously released singles, the bonus part of the CD edit will be a little bit disappointing as the remixes are familiar ones, and the singles’ title songs unfortunately aren’t my favorite ones.

Conclusion: I can’t say this debut album left me unmoved, I am however missing a few elements in the global production to speak about a complete success.

Best songs: “All We Do Is Wait”, “Authentic?”, “Rather Be”, “Zugzwang – Unity One Remix”, “Zugzwang – People Theatre’s Drifting Remix”.

The Russian Moscow-based one-man project Requiem4FM returns with the new EP “Rain Factory” on the SkyQode label (and available here digitally). It marks the end of a 3-year silence after the project’s 3rd album “Epik”, released in 2015 and offering a mix of danceable synthpop tunes and electro-rock.

The EP’s title track, “Rain Factory”, is featured on the latest album and comes backed by several remixes by Eonic (lounge rock), Monowaves (synthwave) and Real Dreamers (analogue electropop). Also added are 2 bonus tracks. The first is “Lluvia Del Ayer”, an uptempo synthpop track with the lyrics written by well-known Mexican musician Alejandro Marin (aka Alex Nórdika) and featuring guest vocals by Raúl Muñoz-Torrero (Insight, Telekon). The other one is a cover version of “Black Winter Day”, a song originally performed by the Finnish metal legends Amorphis.

The new EP is not the last release we can expect from Requiem4FM as more releases are planned for 2018.

The 62nd track on our free download compilation “Face The Beat: Session 4” (featuring 92 tracks) is by the SkyQode signed Russian synthpop act Requiem4FM.

Requiem4FM is the project by the Moscow based musician Dim Semeny4 who mixes electro-rock, electro-pop and synth-pop, with the stress on synthpop. Signed to young label SkyQode the band released one album so far,, the 2015 released “Epic”. The track we offer here is taken from this 2015 album. Genre/Influences: Electro-pop, electro-rock.

Content: Requiem4FM is not exactly the most famous and common name active in the wider fields of electro-pop music. The band was formed in 2003 and had the opportunity to join Shadowplay Records to release 2 albums. The band seems to have gained some recognition in their homeland, but remains rather unknown to the international scene.

I was wondering what this band would sound like as I already discovered excellent bands on the SkyQode roster. “Intravenous” is a kind of intro song, but which already gives us an indication about the sound and style. The psychedelic guitar sounds are quite surprising here. “Once And 4 All” coming up next is an interesting take off revealing a more electronic composition mixed with technoid elements. I got the impression that this song was composed by an experienced producer. The vocals are rather clear, but not fully convincing. I’m missing some passion in the vocals. I personally prefer a song like “You Coloured My Dreams” featuring vocals by ex-Dual Density singer Tess Fries. She literally injects passion and reverie to the music, which makes it all more accomplished.

Mastermind Dim Semeny4 asked a few more guests to join in. Xavier Morales (Ruined Conflict) is the most famous name, but there also is Roman Ryabtsev (Technology). Xavier Morales has a real particular timbre of voice reminding me of Ronan Harris and that’s precisely what you can hear on “Epik”. The title song also is one of the best tracks of the work.

A few songs move into pure electro-rock vein. “The Screens” is characterized by a furious guitar solo, which I didn’t exactly expect. It clearly shows that Requiem4FM tries to create some distance from established electro-pop standards, but for some reasons the guitar passages are not the most convincing aspect of the work. I prefer “Rain Factory” (featuring backing vocals by Roman Ryabtsev) where the guitar passages match with the reverie touch of the song.

Conclusion: I was not really impressed by this album, which is missing noticeable songs and where the main element to reconsider appears to be the production of the vocals. Tess Fries would be a great addiction to this band.

Best songs: “Minutes Of Madness”, “You Coloured My Dreams”.
