Recently we got a few questions in from readers regarding a new Nine Inch Nails album and if we knew something. So, here’s the status on Nine Inch Nails, for the moment that is. Trent Reznor, the frontman of Nine Inch Nails, discussed the future of the band on the Tetragrammation with Rick Rubin podcast which was published in June 2023. In the podcast he expressed a lack of interest in writing, releasing, and touring with new albums for Nine Inch Nails.

“I don’t want to be away from my kids,” Reznor said. “I don’t want to miss their lives to go do a thing that I’m grateful to be able to do, and I’m appreciative that you’re here to see it, but I’ve done it a lot, you know?”

However, in January 2025 it was revealed that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross were composing the score for “Tron: Ares”, the upcoming third installment in the Tron franchise, under the Nine Inch Nails flag. Scheduled for release on October 10, 2025, this project marks the first time Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have composed a film score under the Nine Inch Nails name.

The past few years, Reznor showed a preference for continuing to compose film scores with his long-time collaborator Atticus Ross​​​​. That resulted in the original score for the (excellent) film “The Killer”, directed by David Fincher. The film, starring Michael Fassbender, was released on Netflix on November 10th, 2023​​.

Note that the film included a lot of tracks from The Smiths. The plot starts with an unnamed skillful professional assassin (credited as “The Killer”) who stakes out a Parisian hotel room. He prepares to use a sniper rifle to kill a target who will check into the hotel room at an unspecified time. While waiting for the target, he eats, practices yoga, and listens to the Smiths.

Trent Reznor, 58 years old, founded Nine Inch Nails in 1988, he was the sole official member until 2016. The last Nine Inch Nails album was 2020’s “Ghosts VI: Locusts”, the eleventh studio album for the project. It was released as a free download on March 26, 2020, as a show of solidarity with the band’s fans during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was released simultaneously with the tenth Nine Inch Nails album, “Ghosts V: Together”, and is the third release of the ‘Ghosts’ series.

Guitarist Robin Finck first joined in 1994 and has rejoined the touring band multiple times since; drummer Josh Freese first joined in 2005. Nine Inch Nails was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on 7 November 2020, alongside Ross, Finck and other past members. Nine Inch Nails has released studio albums on an irregular schedule since “The Downward Spiral” (1994), most recently the paired “Ghosts V: Together” and “Ghosts VI: Locusts” (2020).

(Photo by NIN) Puscifer was established in Los Angeles by Maynard James Keenan, who is known as the lead vocalist for the bands Tool and A Perfect Circle. Initially, Keenan was the sole permanent member, and as a result, he regarded the project as his “creative subconscious.” Later, regular collaborators Mat Mitchell and Carina Round became permanent members.

The initial version of “Apocalyptical” was featured on their 2020 album “Existential Reckoning”. It was the fourth studio album by Puscifer. and was released by Alchemy Recordings and BMG Rights Management. The album has since been remixed and reworked by other musicians. This new album follows a tradition for Puscifer, where a remix album is released shortly after the original.

Other artists contributing to the remix album include Phantogram, Greg Edwards, and Tool’s Justin Chancellor. “Existential Reckoning: Reimagined” is available now.

Nine Inch Nails have also been working on the OST for the film “The Killer”. “The Killer” is an upcoming American neo-noir action thriller film directed by David Fincher and with a screenplay by Andrew Kevin Walker. The film is based on the French graphic novel series of the same name by Alexis Nolent and Luc Jacamon. The film stars Michael Fassbender, Charles Parnell, Arliss Howard, Sophie Charlotte, and Tilda Swinton.

“The Killer” (Le Tueur) is a French comic book series written by Matz and illustrated by Luc Jacamon. The story revolves around an unnamed, ruthless hitman who carries out his work with cold professionalism. As the series unfolds, readers delve into the complex psyche of this anti-hero, who grapples with moral dilemmas, loneliness, and the nature of his chosen profession.

Living a solitary and secretive life, the hitman develops a code of ethics that he follows strictly, justifying his actions with a twisted sense of morality. However, when a botched job puts him in the crosshairs of law enforcement and rival assassins, he is forced to confront the consequences of his actions and question the path he has chosen. As the story progresses, the hitman must navigate the dangerous and treacherous underworld, reevaluate his relationships, and determine if he can continue living a life filled with violence and bloodshed.

20th Century Fox have announced the title for the “Prometheus” (2012) sequel, it will be called “Alien: Covenant”. In the Facebook message you can also read more about the plot.

Here’s what has been posted: “Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in “Alien” with “Alien: Covenant”, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with “Prometheus” – and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world – whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.”

Just like many other fans, we are also wondering what will be the role of Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) in this film. It could very well be – it’s actually almost a fact – that Shaw will appear in some sort of video diary in “Alien: Covenant” where she will be talking about what that ‘paradise’ planet is really like. That should be enough to scare the s*** out of the Covenant crew, and the cinema goer.

For those who remember, at the end of “Prometheus”, Elizabeth Shaw and David chart a course for the engineer’s home world.

“Alien: Covenant” will hit the theatres October 6th, 2017.

The filming of the sequel to Ridley Scott’s 2012 sci-fi thriller “Prometheus” is soon to start. After finishing the shooting of his newest film “The Martian”, Scott will be starting to film “Prometheus 2” in January 2016. Next to Scott a few others return such as actors Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender. The script seems to return to a more horror-like genre than the original. Also, Scott has eluded that the film will be (partially) set on Earth.

Good to know, Ridley Scott will be executive producing Neill Blomkamp’s “Alien 5” (that’s just a working title) as well to ensure plot details do not contradict anything found in “Prometheus 2”. It seems that film will disregard the events of “Alien 3” and “Resurrection”. The plot for the film will take place well after the events of Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus” and its sequel – obviously – and closer to the timeline between “Aliens” and “Alien 3”.

In the meantime “The Martian” should keep you happy. The science fiction film, based on the 2011 novel “The Martian” by Andy Weir, stars Matt Damon in the leading role and has a plot which will surely keep you interested. During a human mission to Mars, astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead after being caught in a storm, and is left behind when the rest of the crew evacuates the planet heading back to Earth. Watney now has to find a way to signal home and stay alive until he is being rescued (there is no realistic prospect for a rescue). “The Martian” is scheduled to be released on October 2, 2015.
