The 69 Eyes cover Rammstein’s ‘Feuer Frei!’ for upcoming Rammstein tribute album

Bernard - Side-Line Staff — Thu, 10 Aug 2023 06:18:30 +0000

A while back the US goth rock act The 69 Eyes covered The Cramps’ “Aloha From Hell”, today they give us a preview of their rendition of Rammstein’s “Feuer Frei!”. This track was originally released as the fifth single from Rammstein’s third album, “Mutter”, which debuted on April 2nd, 2001. On August 9th, 2002, “Feuer Frei!” made its film debut in the Rob Cohen action feature, “xXx”, starring Vin Diesel, and can be heard in its near entirety at the beginning of the film, which takes place at a Rammstein concert.

The tribute song is accompanied by a video which you can view below. Directed by the acclaimed Vicente Cordero, it shows fire performers IvorySith & Kay Von Kola.

The song itself is part of the “A Tribute To Rammstein” compilation – of which we already previewed various tracks – available worldwide on August 25th. Included on this compilation are other bands like Priest, Manntra, and Julien-K, Front Line Assembly, Laibach, Burton C. Bell (Fear Factory), Paul Ferguson (Killing Joke), and Skold (KMFDM/Shotgun Messiah).

Julien-K covers Rammstein’s ‘Radio’ ahead of new Rammstein tribute

Bernard - Side-Line Staff — Thu, 03 Aug 2023 07:56:27 +0000

A few days ago we reported about Front Line Assembly covering Rammstein’s “Deutschland” for a new upcoming tribute album. Now it is the turn of the Los Angeles, CA-based industrial act Julien-K to release a cover of “Radio”.

“A Tribute to Rammstein” features both old and new school industrial acts. Included in the 13-track strong release are renditions by Burton C Bell, Big Paul Ferguson & MGT, Front Line Assembly, Skold, Priest, Laibach, The 69 Eyes, Jah Wobble & Jon Klein, Julien-K, Stoneman, Lacrimas Profundere, Manntra, Original God and Leæther Strip.

Julien-K was formed in 2003 by the creative alliance between Orgy co-founders, Amir Derakh and Ryan Shuck. While working on Orgy’s third album, “Punk Statik Paranoia” (2004), Shuck and Derakh began to realize that their creative vision differed from that of singer, Jay Gordon. While Shuck and Derakh wanted Orgy to pursue a more experimental, electronic path, Gordon wanted the band to be heavier with more rock influence. That is when the Julien-K experiment began.

Julien-K blends rock, pop, and dark electro and you can hear this on their version of Rammstein’s “Radio”. The band is currently on a national tour across the United States, alongside the dark electronic acts Powerman 5000 and Priest.

Front Line Assembly cover Rammstein’s ‘Deutschland’ ahead of tribute album

Bernard - Side-Line Staff — Wed, 05 Jul 2023 11:31:54 +0000

Fresh from two recently completed tour runs across the US, first as the headlining act and second alongside Ministry and Gary Numan, EBM legends Front Line Assembly release a brand new single today, a dark electronic reimagining of Rammstein’s “Deutschland” track.

“Deutschland” was released as the lead single from their untitled seventh studio album on 28 March 2019, it was their first new music since the song “Mein Land” in 2011. The song’s music video was directed by Specter Berlin and sparked controversy because of its dark, violent, and macabre style featuring various events from German history, including Roman times, the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest, the Middle Ages, witch hunting, the November Revolution, the Golden Twenties, Nazi book burnings, the Hindenburg disaster, the First and Second World Wars, the Holocaust, the Weimar Republic, the Red Army Faction, and the division of the country into West and East Germany. The most obviously shocking scene references the Holocaust and the Nazi period. Four members of the band, in the striped uniforms of camp inmates, wait at the gallows, about to be hanged. They wear the cloth emblems used to identify their ‘crimes’: a pink triangle for homosexual prisoners, a yellow star for Jewish prisoners, a red and yellow star for Jewish political prisoners.

It also featured science fiction scenes set in outer space, cannibalism in which people were eating Germania, the personification of Germany, and a bank robbery featuring lead singer Till Lindemann crossdressing as Ulrike Meinhof. The song also twice uses the line “Deutschland, Deutschland über allen” (“Germany, Germany above everyone”) as a reference to “Deutschland, Deutschland über alles” (“Germany, Germany above everything”) from the Deutschlandlied.

Front Line Assembly’s cover serves as a standout track on the upcoming (August 25th.) cover compilation, “A Tribute to Rammstein”, featuring both old and new school industrial acts. Included in the 13-track strong release are renditions by Burton C Bell, Big Paul Ferguson & MGT, Front Line Assembly, Skold, Priest, Laibach, The 69 Eyes, Jah Wobble & Jon Klein, Julien-K, Stoneman, Lacrimas Profundere, Manntra, Original God and Leæther Strip.

Side-Line also covered Front Line Assembly’s ‘Mechvirus’.

About The Birthday Massacre

The Birthday Massacre formed in 2000 in Ontario and were originally known as Imagica, their name taken from the title of a novel by Clive Barker. Having relocated to Toronto, they renamed themselves The Birthday Massacre just before the release of their debut album, “Nothing & Nowhere”, in the summer of 2002. The “Violet” EP was issued in 2004 and then made available in expanded form as a full album via Metropolis Records, a label with whom the group have remained ever since.

The next two TBM albums, “Walking with Strangers” (2007) and “Pins and Needles” (2010), plus the EP “Imaginary Monsters” EP (2011), were followed by 2012’s “Hide and Seek”.

The group turned to their fans to help crowdfund their sixth album, “Superstition”, which appeared in late 2014 and was supported by major tours in North America, the UK, mainland Europe and Brazil.

A compilation of early four-track demos entitled “Imagica” (2016) preceded “Under Your Spell”, released in 2017. Three years later, the band celebrated their 20th anniversary with “Diamonds”, its release seeing new drummer Phillip Elliot and bassist Brett ‘Bat’ Carruthers join the band’s ranks. The latter is also the frontman of alternative rock band A Primitive Evolution.

Lords of Acid announce lineup for ‘Pretty in Kink tour’ (Spoiler alert)

Bernard - Side-Line Staff — Tue, 08 Jan 2019 15:36:18 +0000

Lords of Acid has announced the lineup for their upcoming ‘Pretty in Kink’ tour 2019. Joining Praga Khan, will be guitarist Sin Quirin (Ministry, 3 Headed Snake), bassist Dietrich Thrall (Beauty in the Suffering, Doyle), drummer Galen Waling (Pig, Julien-K) and vocalist Marieke Bresseleers. Lords of Acid is a Belgian/ American electronic music group, led by musician Praga Khan. They debuted with the new beat single “I Sit on Acid” in 1988. Created by Praga Khan, Olivier Adams, and Jade 4U; their debut album, 1991’s “Lust” (along with additional singles “Rough Sex” and “I Must Increase My Bust”), became cult within the electronic music and dance music communities for their outrageously sexual lyrics and sound samples. Their second album was “Voodoo-U” (1994), which featured a more industrial sound. This was followed by “Our Little Secret” (1997), “Heaven Is an Orgasm” (1998) and “Expand Your Head” (1999). In 2000 they released a more rock-influenced album titled “Farstucker” and in 2003, after being in the business for fifteen years, released a greatest hits album called “Greatest T*ts”. The rest is history.
