Post-punk act Joy/Disaster have released the first of four live video series for the song “Fade Away”, recorded and mastered by Gorgor at Studio de la forge on October 30th, 2021. The track is taken from the band’s 2007 album “Paranoia”. The next live video at Studio De La Forge for “Close” will be unleashed on November 30th.

The band just recently released their new album “From Stars To Angels”, including 14 tracks which trace the evolution of emotions during a period of isolation.

(Photo by Maxime Bozzolo) The Nancy (France) based post-punk act Joy/Disaster have revealed the first details of their new album “From Stars To Angels” which will hold 14 tracks. The release will be available on all major platforms on September 10th.

Composed during the confinement period between March and May 2020, “From Stars To Angels” traces the evolution of emotions during a period of isolation. Says the band: “Each of us has taken a different look at the world, the media, nature and it is these developments that have given aggressive and melancholic nuances transcribed on these songs.”

Given the difficulties in being able to move around, only the drums were recorded in DIY studio conditions but for the rest of the recordings, everyone recorded at home and then sent the tracks for mixing and mastering.

The band has been active since 2005. Here’s an idea of how they sound like.

Genre/Influences: Rock-wave, punk-rock.

Background/Info: French formation Joy/Disaster is already active since 2005 and has released several productions since then. “Resurrection” is their second album released on Manic Depression Records.

Content: The songs reveal a powerful approach in sound merging different elements together. I got the impression to get back in the 80s and reminding the rock-punk style of Billy Idol. The sound is pretty dark, but constantly bringing different influences together. Some songs have been empowered by solid choruses.

+ + + : The main strength of this album is its diversity, which might appeal for a wider range of music freaks. I especially like the cold flavor recovering the songs. From punk to rock to cold-wave Joy/Disaster brings them all together while driven by a talented vocalist. The artistic digipak is a nice, little bonus to this album.

– – – : “Resurrection” is the kind of easy listening and even entertaining work although without real potential hits. It rather sounds average-like while the ‘softer’ songs can’t convince me at any single moment.

Conclusion: Joy/Disaster is active for more than 10 years now, but didn’t get a real consecration. I’m afraid “Resurrection” will not change this situation. It’s not bad, but definitely not groundbreaking!

Best songs: “Evolution”, “New Generation”.

The french tribal gothic rock band Nova Et Vetera is to re-release it’s 2013 concept album “Dead Waltz” on vinyl (pre-orders are available here). The 10 track vinyl features the same cover artwork as the original release although the tracks have been remastered for vinyl pleasure.

The band started in 1998 when mrlamort, Essem and Miss lamort joined up to create a first 3-track demo (with CD-rom): “DEMO 1.999”. They quickly gathered interest from a loyal public and in 2000 joined Von Magnet for a few shows followed by gigs with Wallenberg, Jacquy Bitch, the Brotherhood of Pagans, Skeletal Family, Franck The Baptist, Joy Disaster, No Tears, Soror Dolorosa, AinSophaur… in the years that followed.

A 5 track EP follows in 2006 (“INextremis”), and in 2009 they land a 2nd 3-track EP (“Après la mort”), both in CD-rom format with an animation film. Their first full album follows in 2013, which now sees a vinyl reissue available right here.
