The Finland-based electro-industrial act The Fair Attempts release their latest EP “Beyond the Edge of Nowhere” this Friday. The electro-industrial project is known for their hard-hitting sound and the story that connects to their art via their book series ‘Machine Dreaming’.

“We’re going back to square one with this EP,” says Friendly Timo, heading The Fair Attempts. “I wanted to touch the feelings and atmosphere of the world before its fall, and in the process, I ended up questioning my own sanity as I became more and more convinced (or disillusioned) that we are actually on the edge of it already. The EP is our heaviest and most aggressive yet. It’s not just industrial rock. This is also very metal.”

The past few months The Fair Attempts, the musical duo consisting of Friendly Timo and Starwing, have been in the studio recording their fourth album. Out now is the first teaser in the form of an all new single under The Fair Attempts umbrella, “My Frozen Heart”.

Friendly Timo explains his inspiration for this song: “I got inspired by the state of the world after all of this Covid panic. The world around us seems to be teeming with all kinds of conflicts and crises that potentially continue to create even more conflicts. In the dystopian story of TFA, mankind finds itself in a state of the world brought on by constant conflict. I wanted to depict a state of soul and mind of a person in the middle of it all. Some of us live in a constant state of conflict even within ourselves.”

He also adds: “I started writing this song at the same time as I was producing the “Bloodsport” cover song for Jessi Frey and MC Raaka Pee from Turmion Kätilöt, so I feel it has a lot of the same type of energy in it.”

Good news from The Fair Attempts, they have released a brand new single “Trials of Celeste”. The result is an industrial rock track handling the fact that we’re all being controlled by someone or some authority structure, for their own benefit or entertainment.

In a recent video, Friendly Timo elaborated on the message of “Trials of Celeste” and spoke about the very personal mechanisms of control individuals experience in their social lives. “People around us tend to expect us to adopt their ways of thought and usually impose their world view on us. They may even try to publicly shame us as an attempt to add some social pressure for us, to make us conform to their kind of groupthink. Ruling powers continuously sow and exploit divisions in society. At some point, each individual is forced to choose their faction. In our everyday world, we are controlled—we are manipulated and programmed into doing what the powers-that-be want us to do.”

Friendly Timo adds: “If an entity, government, or private corporation holds a lot of power over everything else, they’re the ones who can dictate what the truth is. This ‘official truth’ can be enforced through various ways, by setting up separate institutions to provide confirmation of the newly defined ‘truth.’”

“Trials of Celeste” is the third single from the upcoming album titled, “Dream Engine”. The single was released on June 15, 2020. “Trials of Celeste” is available to stream on Spotify and for purchase on Bandcamp.

Friendly Timo, the artist behind The Fair Attempts explains: “It reveals aspects of my brand behind the gas mask and the use of these protective clothings. The gas mask symbolizes personal isolation from outside influences. We all separate some part of our inner being under our shell and nurture it there. Some do it just to a greater extent than others. This is the essence of Dial Out. We end up delving inward to our inner realities and dialing out our everyday realities. A way of dialing out our emotional responses, as to adapt to our surroundings and to exist within it, without having it consuming us internally, or burning out in an outrage. A willing self-delusion.”

The new single “Blue Rose Park” acts as Valentine’s Day surprise. You can expect a darkwave song about the love between two people who used to carry each other through hard and dark times.

“Blue Rose Park” is the first single from The Fair Attempts’ upcoming LP and it already reveals a hint of the wide range of musical sounds present in the new album, from this ballad to industrial blues and of course the powerful and energetic industrial rock The Fair Attempts is known for.

“Blue Rose Park” is indeed the first song by The Fair Attempts with a softer sound featuring vocals by Friendly Timo’s wife, Starwing: “We wanted to share our own story with this song a bit. We met for the first time in a dream while we still lived on the other sides of the planet. Meeting for the first time in our waking life, we recognized each other and the rest was just pure magic.”

Timo further adds: “The story is true, but dressed up to an abstract world that further deepens the concept and the world of The Fair Attempts. It has become a time to celebrate love, the journey and the story that we share together. In the spirit of that, we wanted to share our own story and highlight the fact that the one who is longing for love is going to find it sooner or later, even from the darkest of places. And it is so. From Finland with dark-wave love

The Fair Attempts was founded in 2018, in Finland, by Friendly Timo. In 2019, The Fair Attempts released the debut EP, “arisTotal”, the first full length LP, “Carnal Insect”, and the EP “Carnal Insect Remixes”.

You can easily recognise The Fair Attempts in photographs with the recurrent gas mask wearing character, known as “TFA Guy”. The personality and emotional world of this character were explored through the first 2 music videos for The Fair Attempts singles “Carnal Insect” and “Little Light”.
